Tanna Hill Reviews

Ideally situated for a great holiday in the Lake District.
Ideally situated for a great holiday in the Lake District.

We are very pleased & loved the property but when we got there their was a note. The downstairs shower was our of use& waiting a part. We have seen in previous reviews that there was a problem. The only thing & i am being abit picky about is the sealant around the bath was mouldy& doesn't look very nice in my opinion. Overall our family had the best christmas& hol in your beautiful home& we have booked again for next christmas
Maxine
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Tanna Hill. Everything we needed was there. Fantastic views across Bowness. Kitchen draws could do with a clean there were bits inside the utensil draws . Beds were comfy. The downstairs shower was out of order for our week but we managed ok. We have decided to book again next year. The gardener came twice to get rid of leaves on the drive which I thought was good so we didn't slip on them walking down. We all enjoyed the holiday and the service from Sykes Cottages
Elizabeth
We had an amazing stay at Tanna hill. Its a perfect location which is only a short walk from the centre of bowness and a short walk from the ferry. The view is amazing and even on a wet day it was lovely to sit looking out across the lake. It is well equipped so we were able to stay in or eat out. The upstairs shower room is amazing. We would highly recommend a visit and be back in a flash.
Sandra
Beautiful house stunning views very roomy . Driveway very steep but thats only down side would def go back there .
We loved Tanna Hill. The views from the living room and kitchen windows were spectacular. The accommodation was spacious and very comfortable. It was a great location for visiting all areas of the Lake District. A short walk to a bus stop enabled us to go to Keswick via bus . Again with spectacular views. We also took the bus to Coniston. Great for those who don't like the narrow roads flanked by dry stone walls.
Amazing place let down by poor or non existent cleaning. Visit this place every year it's amazing. Let down this year by poor cleaning
Tracey
Lovely place , would definitely stay here again , great views from room , kitchen, landing , and massive balcony with electric canopy .
Love the property. Our 3rd stay, so really pleasantly surprised by the new shower, which is great. Would love to see a visitors book, as we enjoy reading recommendations from others on walks and local pubscafes etc. Lovely quiet location with stunning views.
Michelle
Excellent week at Tannahill, beautiful views and comfortable surroundings. New bathroom upstairs was a lovely surprise. We will definitely come again.
We had a wonderful stay at Tanna Hill The views and location are incredible. Everything in the house was fabulously equipped. Some areas were a little tired like the bathrooms and the electric showers. But we would 100 stay here again. We loved it. And so did our 2 very well behaved dogs.

The view of the lake from the house is outstanding. On arrival we discovered Tree Tops the house next door was being completely renovated. This work had obviously been in progress for a number of months. The weekend was quiet but on Monday morning we were awakened by the sound of mechanical diggers in the garden of Tree Tops. The noise was also compounded by someone using a pneumatic drill to break up the patio in house immediately in front. It was like living on a building site. Sykes contacted the owner who made a take or leave it offer of a discount for the major inconvenience. The owner declined to release funds to allow rehousing for the remainder of the holiday. We made the best of the situation but left a day early. We feel that we should been made aware of issues prior to arrival and given the opportunity to rebook elsewhere. Sykes and their sister company Lake Lovers stated that they had no knowledge of the ongoing building work.
Beautiful location. House was great. Very spacious for 6 of us. 3 bathrooms was a big bonus! Very well equipped kitchen. Views from kitchen and front balcony were incredible! Decor and furniture etc was quite dated so in my opinion it could do with a bit of a refurb. However everything had been well maintained and still in good condition. Outside area was stunning, although the side patio area was in need of a little tlc. We would definitely recommend and will 100 be booking another stay here.
Excellent property, couldnt fault it at all. Would not think twice about re booking if we holiday in the Lakes in the future.
Fabulous house. Great views. Very steep hill up to it, but wouldnt get the views without it. Really quiet, pleasant street. A short downhill walk to the village of Bowness. Wish there was a visitors book to put down recommendations.
Amazing property. Fantastic balcony and views. Just a lovely place to be! This was our third visit. The best place we have rented for a long while.
Pamela
Great place with the most amazing views, everything we needed was there. It states that it is a short walk to shops and pubs, it is! but the walk back is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues due to the steep hills. we would love to come back but due to an expanding family more babies Tanna Hill would not be suitable any more, we all agreed we would miss the balcony and the views
Ronald
Tanna Hill is lovely it has everything you need for a comfortable stay the beds are super comfy. Washing machine , dryer and fridge freezer are in the garage part. If like us you have dogs there is a small bit of grass to the side and back of the house for a quick toilet. At the top lh corner is enough room to get through to a gate follow the path up to post tor for a great view and lots of room for your dogs to run around freely, The view from the front overlooking lake Windermere is fantastic and with ample seating if you get a nice day for sitting outside on the terrace its a lovely chilled out spot for a late evening. My only issue was with Sykes cottages. Their online massaging via email or Whatsapp is dreadful little to no response and the online form doesn't have a category for other. I eventually found a way to speak to someone using 01244356666 and then option 6 and you can speak directly to a human as the other options just gives you a recorded message and then cuts you off. I have booked with Sykes a few times and before this scheme was introduced I was able to use the number they had online so my advice change it back. Finally its on a steep hill and it will get your heart pumping but its worth it as you wont be disappointed would defo return.
Wonderful property with fabulous views from all the rooms. This was our third visit to this property and we will definitely be staying again.
Great property and amazing view . We had a great stay thanks
Rebecca
Everything was great and would recommend. View amazing and really spacious house. The only disappointment was that we could not recycle any of our waste, this is really disgraceful for a property in such a beautiful area of the natural world.
Absolutely loved the house. Superb views, great rooms, good walking base as long as you can do hills. Really missed a visitor book as we love seeing what others do and where they go.
Plus points spacious, comfortable beds, fab views, great location for walking into Bowness beware the steepness of the drive. Loved the balcony and the electric awning shame the lights had no bulbs. Negatives Overall too hot on our arrival. Unable to turn down some radiators. We also object to paying a lot of money to be expected to strip the beds ourselves at the end of our stay. Also, there was no kitchen bin liner! Turned out we had to open the cardboard box to find 3 bin liners and 2 eco friendly dishwasher tablets plus a scourer. In an area that has no recycling facilities which is disappointing in itself, it is even more disappointing to have to discard a cardboard box. It really is not necessary. I'd much prefer the bin to be lined and dishwasher tabs under the sink. The kitchen was well equipped though we're glad there was a more conventional oven as the steam ovens were way too complicated.
Malcolm
What a lovely house, it had everything we needed. The kitchen was well stocked with crockery and cooking equipment, beds were very comfortable. The view from the balcony was a bonus. Woods behind the house to take the dogs for a run. Short walk down to the town. We all enjoyed our stay and will book this property again in the near future
The property has the most magnificent views of the lake. It was very clean and plenty of choice of cooking and crockery facilities. The property is in need of some maintenance like paths and the bathrooms could do with an update. Having said that this did not stop us from having the most amazing week at Tanna hill.
Robert
A very delightful & ideally positioned house with great views. However Could have done with spare bedding and towels for a two week stay. Also didn't have a holiday feel inside very dated & personal belongings including photo albums left in lounge units. Also would liked to have recycled but instructions clearly said throw ALL rubbish in one bin even though recycle truck did turn up one morning. Apart from these negatives we would still highly recommend this property.
Dorothy
Beautiful property ,a little bit dated . Everything needed is catered for.. View from balcony is wonderful. Drive very steep but worth it for the view. Would love to stay again.
Duncan
What great accommodation. We had our doubts about the view but we needn't have worried, fabulous. The house is a short walk from Bowness and all that has to offer. A climb back up the hill to get home, but that wasn't a problem, just added to the fun. The balcony view was superb and the house was very welcoming, we felt at home right away. There isn't an enclosed garden for the dogs but that was fine for our two, they got used to the banked grassed area by the footpath. I would recommend this property to anyone, thank you so much Tanna Hill
The house is excellent. .we had parking for 3cars and room if needed for a couple more if required.. 3 reasonable size bedrooms 3bathrooms.. Seen some comments regards wi fi..whole of Bowness not good for WiFi but who needs that when you go out onto the balcony and see the views.. table and seating area for 6people get the cards out and games .. Go to the Hole int wall for a ploughmans lunch its amazing and only 67mins walk away..maybe 1015on way back up hill but you are in the lakes.. Will defo be re booking this place.. Cheers Tony
We had a wonderful week at Tanna Hill. A special house with a very special location and stunning views. We will be back.
Really enjoyed our stay at Tanna Hill. Beautiful view from the balcony. We were very lucky with the weather which made it extra special. Property was well equipped and clean.
Elizabeth
The views from the property where absolutely stunning, the balcony and seating made it a lovely spot to sit out, it was clean and comfortable, the kitchen was a lovely sociable space with all equiptment you would need if you prefer to cook rather than eating out. Bowness is a very short walk of around 10 minutes with everything there on the doorstep it was easier walking downhill than back up ! we took a short cut through Happimag apartments bringing you right out near tourist information. There is ample parking and turning making it easier to manoeuvre off the drive. All in all a fantastic break with unrivalled views and Post Knott a short walk up.
Great property perfect location will definitely stop again !
Stephen
Lovely property with great views over the lake. The photos do not do this place justice. We arrived in the dark met by a long , fully lit up driveway, which has plenty of room for multiple cars. It's difficult to appreciate the size of this property until you're in front of it. The hallway with gallery landing above has a real wow factor upon entry. After a few minute's I was torn between thinking this house needed the decor modernising and loving the charm of it all as it was. Kitchen was very well equipped, very clean, with good quality appliances The living room is huge, with fantastic views of the lake, comfortable seating and a smart TV. Fully adjustable lighting and a lovely fireplace The light on the rear patio didn't work but was rarely needed with such a fantastic frint facing balcony The bedrooms are spacious and the beds really comfortable. The wardrobes need updating but we're functional. We only used the downstairs shower, which was fine so cannot comment on the other two. The property was immaculately clean and the heating set perfect for our needs, always warm after we returned from walks and days out. The only real downside to this property is also the reason for its biggest plus. Its built on a hill, above bowness, and whilst its just a 10 minute walk from the centre, it is a very steep uphill walk. We used the steps on the far side of the property, which are far easier to manage than the driveway. The views are well worth the effort though. My family really enjoyed the week and we would stay again in a heartbeat.
Good location with views of the lake and beyond. Steep hill and drive with restricted space to turn car around. On arrival the property was cold due to the restricted CH timings. We had to continually boost the CH during our stay. Also whilst the WIFI worked in the kitchen it was unreliable in the rest of the house not a problem with our devices. The electric shower in the upstairs bedroom is useless in cold weather. A small amount of washing up liquid disinfectant washing powder would be useful.
Excellent way to spend Christmas, great location and a magnificent view of the lake.
What a fantastic property. Very grand and plenty of room for a larger party of people. The dogs loved it as well, plenty room for them to play. Amazing views from the balcony and windows. A very well equipped kitchen and the showers are fantastic. If I was being ultra critical I would say the parking can be a bit tricky but it certainly wouldnt stop me from booking again, which we hope to do for next year.
