1 Hodge Howe Cottage Reviews

We are returning guests who have yet to be disappointed by our visits. This beautiful cottage is so peaceful and private, with a huge garden that you can explore or just sit and relax in. Indoors, everything is cosy, comfortable and exceptionally clean. Plenty of technological entertainment for those who want it, or peace and quiet with a background of various bird songs instead of traffic. Then there's the badgers whose evening visits are a wonder. Just a perfect place for a welcome retreat.
We've enjoyed another lovely holiday at beautiful Hodge Howe. It's very well equipped and comfortable and in an excellent location. We love watching all the wildlife and birds. Many thanks to the owners. We're looking forward to visiting again.
The property was absolutely beautiful, set in a secluded garden and very well furnished and kitted out with everything you could need. An excellent base to explore the southern Lakes, we would definitely recommend this property for a special stay!
Hodge Howe is a beautifully appointed, well maintained cottage in lovely wooded grounds. As a self catering cottage, it provides everything you could need and if you want restaurants and cafes, they are only a short walk away. With plenty of walks on the doorstep and an abundance of wildlife living in the grounds, this is such a perfect place to explore and enjoy the lakes.
Just returned from a wonderful holiday in the Lake District Hodge Howe House was in a lovely location, surrounded by woodland. It was extremely peaceful. The house was well equipped and spotlessly clean perfect for a family of 6. Would definitely recommend.
This is a lovely comfortable holiday home in a gorgeous woodland setting. We really enjoyed watching the birds at the feeders and all the wildlife. We're looking forward to visiting again.
We love staying at Hodge How. It's lovely and comfortable, in an excellent location with lots of wildlife and also close to Windermere and Bowness for shopping, cafes and restaurants. We're looking forward to visiting again.

The property its self is outstanding well equipped well furnished good size rooms and in excellent condition and decor. Probably one of the best we've had over a 30 year period. Lovely wooded garden that certainly attracts all the wildlife and birds. Secluded location? it is not the hole property in the pictures as it is a semi detached and Windermere School Water Centre is next door so the private drive can be a little busy particularly when dropping off and picking up children. that said, don't let it put you off as the garden is large and private. 4.5 stars!!
Hodge How is a beautiful and very comfortable cottage. We love visiting and enjoying all of the wildlife. We hope to come back soon.
This was my 4th stay at Hodge Howe and as before really enjoyed it. Beautiful cottage and seeing the badgers was a joy. There was a fault with Netflix on the TV, it would not load and therefore I could not sign out of my account, which was not the owner's fault, but Sykes maintenance men were inadequate in their knowledge and said they would send out their tech man. He did not turn up to fix the problem before we left. My complaint is with Sykes and NOT the owner. My previous stays were through Heart of the Lakes who were excellent at maintenance problems with other cottages stayed at.
We've really enjoyed staying at this fantastic cottage which is in a gorgeous location with lots of birds and wildlife visiting. We hope to return again.
We have visited the lake district many times over the years. Hodge Howe cottage is one of best places we have ever stayed. The location and the cottage itself are beautiful. It's central to everything you would want for a holiday in the lakes.

We are quite early risers 7 oclock in the morning, central heating doesnt come on until 8 in the morning so it was cold . Upstairs bathroom, the hand basin had blood in two places under the sink, so we used downstairs ensuite instead. This is totally unacceptable .
High quality property, with very good fittings and equipment. Particularly impressed with quality of sheets and towels. Lovely garden setting, but we assumed we might be able to walk by the lake from the cottage. You can't. Just a short walk to the lake and back, but no lakeside path or woodland paths. However, we really enjoyed the cottage for the week. A couple of small improvements perhaps. 1 This is the first cottage we have ever booked and we have had scores of cottage holidays where there was no toilet paper at all when we arrived not a single sheet. 2 It is also the first cottage in 20 years where we haven't found a 'welcome pack'. Normally some milk and bread, etc, are provided just to get us settled in before we stock up on provisions. Aside from that, a lovely cottage holiday.
This cottage is lovely and comfortable, extremely well equipped and in an excellent location. We loved watching all of the birds and wildlife. We hope to return again.
Stephanie
Absolutely wonderful cottage, beautiful setting just minutes away from windermere. The garden is a beautiful feature just within the forest so we saw deer, rabbits and watched the badgers every day. A fully stocked cottage, plenty of books and games, kitchen was stocked with everything needed for a full week and more, extremely comfortable beds for all of the family. Highly recommend and will definitely return again.
Pamela
A truly amazing cottage in a perfect location tucked away in beautiful surroundings yet close to amenities, walks, gardens and popular lakeland towns and villages. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped. The gardens are a haven for wildlife. We saw badgers every night as well as a fox, deer, and many birds. Thoroughly and highly recommend.
Tracey
Hodge Howe Cottage was absolutely lovely. Very well laid out with a bedroom being downstairs and 2 bedrooms upstairs. The kitchen was extremely well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The gardens are really lovely and with so much wildlife. The badgers coming down at around 8.30 every evening was so lovely. Being so close to Lake Windermere was a real bonus as it is stunning. The setting of the cottage is perfect and would definitely return here again. Loved the cottage and the surrounding area.
A lovely cottage and everything provided. Only problem was the central heating which seemed to have a mind of its own. Comfiest beds I have slept in for a long time. The nightly visit from the badgers was amazing, didn't expect them to be so close.
Carole
Thank you for sharing your delightful cottage. I loved everything about it! Such a perfect setting, but close to all amenities. The nightly visits from the badgers were a bonus! An ideal place for a holiday!
Rebecca
Our fourth stay here and it really does feel like home as its so comfortable and really has everything that we need and want from a holiday property. We are seeing more and more of the deer, which is lovely. Badgers are such a huge bonus and my children think theyre fascinating. Even at 13, my son loves the toy leopard and its always the first thing he finds when we arrive. Love this house so much, always sad to leave and we cannot wait to return.
This was an excellent location in comparison to activities we wanted to complete. I think that we will stay again if it is available.
Loraine
The location of hodge how cottage is great it is in a huge forest setting but you can walk to Windermere in around 15 minutes. The cottage was fabulous it had everything you could ever need especially in the kitchen which was very well resourced. We took cleaning and washing things with us but we didnt need to as it was all there. The beds were huge and very comfortable, showers were great too and a tv in each room is excellent. The grounds of the cottage are great for children to play and explore. I would definitely return here. 2 points I would mention is I think the sitting room carpet needs to be shampooed and also be careful as you come out onto the road at the top of the drive as its close to a busy roundabout.
Stephanie
Our 2nd stay in this comfortable and special cottage. It has everything we need and is in such beautiful surroundings with amazing wildlife. Looking forward to returning next year.
Elaine
Excellent cottage quite remote but very quiet
Extremely comfortable, well equipped and perfect idyllic location, a real getaway but close enough to amenities. We will stay again no doubt, enjoyed the wildlife, the owners are particularly conscious of the importance of this all the bird feeders where well stocked, we particularly enjoyed the evening Badger visits. Highly recommend.
The cottage was fantastic, spotlessly clean, comfortable and decorated to the highest quality. The gardens were tranquil and full of wildlife from birds to badgers who were very entertaining.....a fantastic place where we shall definitely return.
The Sykes experience wasn't good the whole issue with keys was a complete debacle and cost us time and money why not just get a key safe at the property just like every other holiday let everywhere? The property was lovely and we will return however we would like to feed back two points 1. To not provide hand soap at the sinks during a pandemic is unforgivable. 2. The wiFi was utterly atrocious and almost unusable. Worse than dial up!
Pamela
Comfortable cottage furnished to a high standard in excellent location. Beautiful grounds and close to local amenities. Exceeded all expectations. Could not have wished for a better stay in the lakes.
Steven
Lovely cottage in a beautiful tranquil setting a short walk from Windermere
Very happy with property. Loved the wildlife
