Via Alta Reviews

William
Very enjoyable stay with fantastic views We enjoyed the area with great walks and two great local pubs. Would stay again
Kieran
Excellent accommodation. I was worried as there had been some negative reviews about Via Alta but I was so pleased. The photos dont do this house justice it is really bright, clean and comfortable. The beds are really comfy with excellent bedding. The house was lovely and warm even when we first arrived. Couple of this to be aware of Via Alta is part of three houses in the one building and the door is not photographed. I tried to get in No. 2&3 before realising the door is on the road side of the building the stairs from the door and stairs to the top floor are quite steep so I am not sure I would recommend this house for small children or elderly there is a farm dog in a neighbouring farm that barked a lot so if you are sensitive to that, this might be an issue. As I said, Via Alta surpassed my expectations and would thoroughly recommend. Added bonus is that the Queens Head is about 0.7miles away and the Mortal Man is stumbling distance, both are excellent and meant we didnt cook in the house during our stay. Finally, the views from the kitchen sink are amazing!!

A brilliant stay, the accommodation was so comfortable and welcoming with everything we needed. We will be back to stay again soon
Positives wellmade beds and clean bathrooms. Nice lounge area upstairs with plenty of seating. Beautiful location with lovely views. Negatives carpets and kitchen needed a good clean spiders and cobwebs everywhere. We spent the first 2 hours of our holiday, cleaning. We had to vacuum the entire property apart from the upstairs lounge. There were crumbs in the dining area and underneath the table, and the hall and bedroom carpets were not at all clean. There were also cobwebs everywhere which we spent a good while vacuuming up, so it clearly hadnt been dusted or cleaned properly for a while previous guests have commented on the same issue, and we evicted dozens of spiders! In the kitchen there was next to no storage space for food I managed to clear one small shelf in a cupboard the freezer was tiny and needed urgent defrosting despite previous guests having complained about this as far back as April in the online property reviews. Many of the pots and pans and cutlery were dirty, and we needed to wash most things up before use. The dishwasher didnt clean anything on the rapid cycle, but the normal cycle worked. The top rack of the dishwasher was broken so we had to be careful when pulling it out, but a message had been left saying the part was on order to mend it. A washingup bowl and a dryingup rack would be useful additions, as well as some servingstirring spoons. Parking is adequate, but a little tight for 2 cars, especially when the other two properties on the site are being used. We spent a lot of money renting this cottage for a week and were really disappointed, especially compared to previous properties we have stayed in with Sykes Cottages. It wouldnt cost the owner much to improve the things that were an issue.

The view is absolutely breath taking and more than makes up for the small niggles with the accommodation. The accommodations decor was a little uninspiring and could be a little better maintained. There was a problem with the dishwasher and no decent frying pan and an ice cube tray would be useful. A bedroom drawer was missing a handle and some black mould in shower. Overall clean but large cobweb above the master bed and some areas undusted. The lounge was excellent with ample room for 6 adults and we felt although we didnt use it, the tv was very small. The views from all the windows more than made up for these things and we would stay again. Good location with a nice pub just up the lane serving food.
Had a lovely mini break staying at this place. Wish we had a longer time. Stunning views and nearer to Bowness on windermere.
Fantastic property in a superb location. The Lakes is an outdoor adventure but we really enjoyed coming home to the property each day. We enjoyed the garden and views each day. 2 pubs in walking distance. The only thing I would suggest for improvement is in the kitchen. It really needs new pans. Especially frying pans. Such a small thing but it would have made a big difference over the course of a week for us.
On arrival we found a very clean cottage although a little cool in temperature. We were a party of 5 adults and were impressed by the size of the property, the comfortable beds and ensuit in every bedroom. Better not forget to mention the lovely views and the peace and quiet. The lounge on the top floor was amazing especially as a bathroom was on the same floor and saving anyone the trouble of going downstairs for a toilet. There were a few niggles eg the internet and tv was intermittent and quite often wasn't working. The shower in the twin room had a hole in the wall between the shower tray and a bottom tile, although it can't be seen it can be felt. A draft blows through that feels like its comes direct from outside. This inturn leaves the electric radiator struggling to heat the bathroom The biggest problem though was the kitchen. At first glance all is in order but we found dirty plates in the cupboard and inside the oven was very greasy, two frying pans were unusable due to the teflon coming off and the third barely good enough to use. There was also not enough kitchen utensils cook adequately. The freezer is in desperate need of a defrost and the dishwasher doesn't workclean properly. We also found water on the kitchen floor every time after using the dishwasher especially if using the intense program. Although the kitchen we found annoying it didn't spoil our holiday. Apart from the dishwasher the other negative points could be sorted out with little expense and would advise replacing most kitchen utensils with plastic or silicon to protect the pans. If the above was done then this would be fantastic top cottage
This is an excellent property in a beautiful location. There lounge upstairs was brilliant and its rare to see an ensuite in every room. My only gripes would be the small kitchen and a lack of space to store boots before heading upstairs its a squeak having six people head back in from the pouring rain!, but not sure how that could be resolved. The WiFi was also not working, however we had mobile signal at the property so this wasnt required. The short walk to the excellent pub up the road was a great option for those not wanting to cook. Overall it was a wonderful stay and would definitely return again.
Weve just returned from a super holiday at Via Alta. The property under the new management was spotless and very comfortable. It was very cosy especially as we were there during Storm Darragh!! The log burner was such a bonus during the storm and made the lovely lounge very cosy. The property was very well equipped and had everything we needed make a very enjoyable stay. Its a great location for walkers and the Mortal Man pub is just a very short walk from the front door. Beautiful views, gorgeous area. We will be back!!
We felt that the previous feedback which was quite negative was not justified. We thought the place was great, it was ideal for us. We hed everything we needed and were comfortable for the week.

The location and views from the property are exceptional unbeatable but the property was filthy with dead flies everywhere the carpets and floors were disgusting The kitchen sink and surfaces filthy The table covering in the kitchen disgusting The sofas upstairs were so dirty my son wouldnt sit on them the side tables were filthy In the kitchen many of the cups plates glasses had chips The cafeterias spout was broken The blinds in the master bedroom were broken The table mats were alive Luckily we cleaned the place when we arrived wore slippers when ever stepping on floor covered the sofa s Washed all kitchen and dinning stuff before use The views from the cottage were so amazing and the situation in Toutbeck our favourite place Please please clean the place up u are so lucky to own it and people like us want to stay I would recommend the property but advice people to be aware of the filth

Poor maintenance of the property which looks very tired and grubby. Carpets were dirty and didn't appear to have been hoovered when we arrived, so we cleaned them ourselves. There were a lot of flies in the house both dead and alive. The kitchen was poorly stocked in terms of equipment and glasses, just some quick wins like providing pint glasses, a decent bottle opener, more than 1 small chopping board, some decent cutlery, more than a small drop of washing up liquid, etc. Drains were running very slow and the shower in the 2nd double had hot and cold pipes connected the wrong way around so cold was scalding and hot was freezing. Obviously very dangerous! The draws in the dining room area were full of unopened letters and a pot of paint! The property just needs some TLC, some thought to the needs of guests, a deep clean and throw away the items that don't work anymore like the cake tin without a base!
Lovely property, comfortable stay apart from maybe a couple of sticky out springs in the bed! . We had a 48 hour power cut, no fault to the owner, but the management company had terrible communication and never got back to us.
Veronica
Really lovely house lots of room for 4 adults, a child and a dog. Views are brilliant and walks straight from the door. Friendly and helpful locals and never had any problems with anything at the property. I read reviews of no oven gloves so I took my own, everything else you might need was provided. Lovey stay even if the weather was not lovely.!
Me and my husband liked this property a lot and enjoyed our stay, but there are a few things lacking that would really improve it. The lack of a welcomeguest book is a bit irritating, particularly getting into cooler months and trying to figure out the heating system. There were no oven gloves, and all the plugs had been removed from the sofas meaning the footrests couldnt be extended. The door handle to the main bedroom is very loose and about to come out, and the showers are all pretty feeble. Not within the owners control, but the dogs across the road bark a lot including at random times in the night, which is a pain in such an otherwise quiet location. None of this would put us off staying again and this was our second visit it is a nice size overall and has wonderful views but it feels like the property needs a little bit of TLC.
Property needs a good clean very dusty and cobwebs. No wood provided which was disappointing as we particularly chose property with a multi fuel stove. It would have been nice to open blinds in bedroom to see the views but they were broken. No sweeping brush or vacuum to clean up through the week which was irritating. No chance of an afternoon nap for toddler and grandparents as there was building work going on in the downstairs property. Tumble drier didn't work and nowhere to hang out wet washing. Dishwasher leaked but was fixed within an hour. This property could be excellent with a little more attention to detail as the village is lovely peaceful and beautiful.
Daniel
Despite raising issues nothing was done, Ive had to chase twice with no response as yet still. Totally shocking customer service. House wasnt clean, things didnt work or were broken and no action was taken. The only thing that stopped was the work men doing up the property underneath from 8am every day. Really disappointed so far and will no doubt have to keep chasing to get any kind of proper response. Avoid this company at all costs.
Michael
Lovely property with great views. I know we are paying for the fantastic views from the property but a Welcome Pack would have been nice.
