Tower Cottage Reviews

Christine

We had a very enjoyable stay at Tower Cottage. The cottage was lovely, spacious and well equipped in beautiful surroundings. Our only issue was that we were unable to work out how to switch the heated towel rails on but this was only a minor inconvenience and we will certainly return for another holiday in this lovely cottage in the amazing Lake District.

Really dated property. We came in 2020 and the rooms are exactly the same in terms of needing an upgrade. All the doors were grubby. The kitchen oven is a death trap. Had to call for help as the fan oven trips the electric. They knew this happened of the fan oven was used yet no pre warning of this. A piece of wood holds the oven doors closed! Frying pans are about 1015 years old and thick black with dirt. Could not use. The whole property needs a good clean and re paint to make it look fresh. Wont be returning to this particular property although the location is perfect. Its a real shame and the upkeep just lets it down.

Property was lovely in a wonderful location. The garden was amazing. We had a brilliant week, thank you.

The property is in a good central location, a nice walk down to the lake. Beds were very comfortable, showers worked well. Lovely garden not enclosed , however the cleanliness of the property was lacking, the oven needs a good deep clean and some of the utensils needed a good clean andor replacing. There were three dead wasps in and near the sink in the wet room. Lots of dust and dead flies in other rooms. No logs left to use in wood burner and we could have done with it lighting as it was unseasonably cold for the week we stayed. The back door off the lounge didn't work, handle seems loose. The property just needs some tlc to bring it up to the standard advertised. Despite the comments we still enjoyed our week away. Thank you

Jacqueline

This property was wonderfully spacious, which we needed with four adults, twin toddlers and a dog. The garden was very large with a gate out to the wood and on to the lake, enjoyed by all. However unfortunately, it hadn't been well maintained. The oven went a couple of times and we had to reset the circuit breaker. The info on how was not in the welcome book. The door handle to the garden was very loose and I also really think it had been a while since it had a deep clean, while the bathrooms were clean, there were cobwebs, especially in the downstairs bathroom. If the property had been better maintained etc., I would definitely return.

Georgina

Very comfortable cottage. Beautiful garden. Beautiful views. Fabulous to have a games roomsecond lounge area. Great location for a quick walk to both the lake and to the centre of Windermere. There could have been more equipment in the kitchen such as more than one baking tray. As others mentioned, the lane and parking is a little tight in places.

Lindsay

Excellent location for walking to Windermere 5 minutes and Bowness 30 minutes Bus stop at the top of the road and train station only 5 minutes walk to other villages around the lakes. Lovely cottage, would come back. Minor issues for sharing with property owner only Bed in twin room has 56 slats broken, was ok for a younger member of the group, but would not have been suitable for an adult with the slats broken. Listing stated full basket of wood for wood burner, however there were only a couple of bits of wood meaning we couldnt really use on night one.

Louise

Stylish, warm and comfortable, great location and very quiet considering how central it is. We took 2 dogs and it was perfect for them back door out to a huge garden which was a real bonus. Morning walks down to Lake Windemere from your garden perfect. The kitchen was also really good lots of utensils and pots and pans and a fab cooker. Views are beautiful from the huge picture windows. It's actually better than it looks on the website, and that doesn't often happen! Thank you to the owners xx

Tower Cottage is a charming, spacious house, with a great open plan living dining kitchen area, ideal for preparing meals and cooking with a group. There is a large, delightful garden. The cottage is ideally situated just 10 minutes walk from the centre of Windermere. However, we could not get either TV to work, and instructions re connecting DVD player with TV were out of date, so we could not watch DVDs. Heating instructions were also out of date, but the owner helpfully informed us how to turn it on when we phoned her. No wood for the wood burner was provided, contrary to information in the folder. The downstairs bathroom sink is slow to drain and needs attention. Light bulbs needed replacing, so it would be helpful to have more than one spare for us to replace them when necessary.

Great value for money and the garden is stunning just a pity it rained all week

Rodney

I visit the lakes every Summer, I have stayed at Tower Cottage several times and consider it one of the best and most relaxing properties weve stayed at. I look forward to visiting again in the near future.

Wonderful cottage and gardens Very comfortable and well set out kitchendiner ... Wonderful cottage and gardens Very comfortable and well set out kitchendiner Upstair sitting room very bright and spacious Access a bit tight and steep for parking but very manageable Only 10 minute walk to town with lovely pubs and restaurants I would definitely recommend this cottage

Gaynor

Such a lovely place to spend time in the lakes , great location , we really enjoyed it would definitely go back there , such a lovely cottage , with plenty of space for familys , clean & well kept gardens & lovely owner . .perfect !

Phillip

A really nice cottage. Showers were excellent although a bit more lighting in the wet room would be useful for those like me who like a shower before bed. The kitchen has everything youll need if cooking for yourself. We only used the downstairs bedroom but the bed was seriously comfortable. The garden is huge but not enclosed so we made sure we always went out with the dogs. Windermere village and associated pubstakeawaysrestaurants is a 1015 minute walk away. Bowness is about a 30 minute walk via the path at the bottom of the garden. I drive an iPace and would not recommend trying to park with anything bigger as the approach road and turning area in front of the cottage are a bit tight. Only issue for me is there could be a blind on the side window as a path runs a few feet from it and people do like looking in! One guy actually waved at my wife as she was sitting down

Andrew

Excellent cottage great location , really nice stay

Tower Cottage is wonderfully situated, both in walking distance of lake Windermere and in a green area with lots of woodland. Especially the garden is a delight with the impressive sequoia tree as highlight in it. In two occasions we spotted some deer grazing in the back. The house has got an easy access to several public footpaths ideal for walking experiences to Bowmere, Grasmere and obviously Windermere itself. We truly enjoyed our stay and had lots of morning and evening walks to the lake with our dog. The house itself is spacious, with three bathrooms , a large kitchen and comfortable beds.In the evening we were able to admire the sun set through the large window overseeing the extended garden. We would surely recommend Tower Cottage to everyone for it is very suitable for doglovers and, or a family with adult children like ours. The kitchen though, might need a little upgrade some more pots and pans would be handy, also the oven needs some maintenance. Just a note for the owner most holiday homes provide hand soap and commons spices for their guests but there were not. Fortunately, a Booth was in walking distance.

We are a family with four teenagers and a dog. Tower Cottage exceeded our expectations, which were already high prior to arrival. The property is immaculately presented and the location is ideal being only a short walk to either Windermere town or lake. All bedrooms are warm and comfortable, bathrooms are stylish and the upstairs loungegames room has stunning views and is a great chill out area for the kids. The garden just goes on and on, and would be lovely in the summer. Everywhere feels light, airy and spacious with very high quality fittings throughout. We are so taken with the property that we are considering another booking for later this year. Lovely cottage, great location, very welcoming and highly recommended.

Wow! What an amazing holiday we had at Tower Cottage. We came by train, all the way from London, in slightly over 3 hours. The cottage is in a brilliant location, just 5 minutes walk, downhill, from Windermere train station, near the village with all it offers to visitors, alongside the path down to the lake. We walked everywhere, and you really dont need a car to have a great holiday in this cottage for example, Booths supermarket is only a 5 minutes walk away and stocks lovely local produce. The cottage itself is a real jewel! There are wonderful views, an enormous wellkept garden the colours of the rhododendrons are really something, and its beautifully furnished. We loved the designer chairs, comfy sofas, and my favourite was the rocking chair in the upstairs sitting room for reading in the afternoons while watching the sunset. Absolutely perfect! The cottage was spotless, really well equipped, such as having 4 working showers in its 3 bathrooms. Thank you, we will be back.

We had a fantastic holiday and we were lucky enough to have the perfect weather in the heatwave. I was a little worried by some of the reviews when i booked but this house is very good value for what you get. The sofas have been changed and are comfortable. I found the dining chairs comfortable also. A few things do require TLC and particularly in the heat having blinds on the windows would have been really helpful as the rooms got sweltering . However we were there in a heatwave . A half blind would be useful downstairs and the blinds are broken upstairs. Nevertheless we would absolutely stay here again. The garden is beautiful with a walk at the bottom only 10 minutes from lake. We could get to bowness and the windermere high street easily on foot also. Thank you for a wonderful holiday. We will definitely be back.

Oven door fault apparently present since 2019 Shower not working, again an existing fault according to visitor book. Back door handle needs repairing. General cleanliness was poor

Tenzin

Nice location Sofas r not good for your back

Simply a perfect holiday

This is a lovely property in a great location. The Cottage has great facilities and is well furnished with great views in the direction of the lake. Access to the lake is very easy from the bottom of the large garden not much more than a 5 minute walk away. Windermere town centre is very close by for shops and other amenities. We'd be happy to go back.

Shamoon

We had a lovely time at the tower cottage. Everything was fantastic and we loved the proximity to lake windernere. Parking the car was a little tricky but got the hang of it after the first day. Already missing the lakes and the place. Thank you.

Maggie

We had a very enjoyable stay at Tower Cottage. The house and garden are lovely. The kitchen is well equipped.

Orlando

Tower cottage is a magical place, nestled in its greeneveninwinter garden, with glimpses to the mountains, and oh that mighty redwood tree! The house is perfect, and well looked after. We had such a happy week, with a few friends. We had all we needed and loved the big slate floor sitting room and open kitchen, with those cool Robin Day sofas near the woodburning stove perfect for when be came home from our walks. Also really special is the location so close to Windermere village, yet right by the stone walled lane down to the lake. We will be coming back soon!

We have had another lovely stay at Tower Cottage. The views from both lounges are stunning, particularly in the winter when you can see Windermere. The cottage is always spotless, has good facilities and is really warm. We have had a wonderful holiday here.

We had a lovely week at Tower Cottage. The Cottage was clean, has a good number of bathrooms, two lounges and a wonderfully large garden although rather overgrown and not secure for dogs that like to investigate, like ours. The owners also thoughtfully left a bottle of wine for us and a pen for the use of our dog, if needed. While there is parking for two cars, manoeuvring out of the parking space is more of a challenge for a bigger car. The best thing about Tower Cottage is its position in Windermere, a ten minute walk into the centre of the town and a 15 minute walk down to the Lake using the path from the bottom of the garden. We have already rebooked for November. SykesLakelovers were very responsive when we rang about a couple of points and resolved all queries quickly.

Location and cottage was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. However the property does need some TLC as a couple of things need some attention TV's dont work, oven door fails to close securely and gardens need a good trim, however this did not impact our weeks stay. Sykes were fantastic, particularly the communcation through the pandemic

Great location. Amazing garden and great view of fells from windows. House in need of thorough clean and being painted. Bathrooms ok but assume main bathroom has issue with one shower as there appears to be an extra electric shower in cubicle.

This is the second time we have stayed at Tower Cottage. It does not seem to have been deep cleaned since we last stayed here 12 months ago. This is not a cheap cottage yet it has very few glasses, dishes etc. The shower upstairs sis not work properly. There were no tea bags, sugar, only one toilet roll per bathroom. The location is fabulous, as is the garden but the house itself needs redecorating and some TLC.

Deirdre

I have now contacted SykesLakelovers by email and telephone more than 5 times. No response, still waiting. House was not clean. Basic items missing and not replaced even after contacting customer service it even took 2 calls to get a kettle.

It was a truly fab place, excellent location, decor made us feel really comfortable. Spacious, light with a view to die for.
