Lonsdale House Reviews

Lonsdale was clean and very cosy. Having previously served as a small hotel it was quirky, and the main lounge did not have enough seating for 8 guests , witout moving sofas from the secondary lounge. We loved the bar area. And the kitchen had all vital equipment, but oddly lacked small glasses and cutlery not enough for a 3 course meal for 8, without washing up between courses. Beds were all comfortable and rooms a good size, the ensuits were very small, with noisy plumbing and none of the showers were great. But these small inconveniences were not a problem, with the rest of the positives. Great location, easy walk to Bowness centre, not far from Windermere, plenty of room. For two dogs and parking front and back.
We had an enjoyable stay and the owners Andrew and Kate were very kind and accommodating!
We had a great time at Lonsdale House and were lucky to have a weekend of very hot weather. The property was perfect for a family group of 7 with plenty of space to relax. There's so many lovely places to eat out within easy walking distance so we only made light breakfasts but the facilities were great with plenty of crockery, glasses etc. Highly recommend a stay at Lonsdale House

Overall, the property was in excellent condition. The only downside was the smell in the dining roomkitchen area which did seem to get better but was extremely over powering when we first entered. The dishwasher didn't seem to clean particularly well either. Apart from that we really couldn't fault the house or it's close proximity to lots of amenities. Would gladly stay there again.
We were a group of 8 adults and we had a wonderful time staying at Lonsdale House for a week. The house was well equipped as we like to cook for ourselves a lot and we had everything we needed, and there was plenty of space with the lounge and bar area for us all to relax as well. The bedrooms were comfortable, clean, and spacious, with comfy beds and nice facilities. The owners were super friendly and attentive, with a wonderful gift basket on arrival, and they were really quick to respond during an emergency on a weekend that was absolutely no fault of their own. The property is also really well located for both Bowness and getting around the rest of Lake Windermere. Would absolutely recommend!
Perfect sized property for our family reunion ages ranging from 1 90 years. Ideal location close to the lake, shops and public transport. 4 decent sized bedrooms all with ensuite facilities which had small shower cubicle's but we managed. The main bedroom comfortably accommodated two travel cots. Please note that 2 ensuites have a step over entrance which is tricky for less mobile elderly parents who prefer twin beds. Kitchen was well equipped would have liked some egg cups as we were travelling with infants Ae had a huge dining area which comfortably accommodated 14 on one night when we had visitors who stayed elsewhere in Bowness, Quirky decor the living areas have little or no natural light just be aware. We made full use of the bar area. We had researched the facilities prior to booking so we were fully aware. No outside sitting space but theres a park very close by. Good comms from the owners who were responsive. Only comment would be to have some smaller drinking glasses other than pint beer glasses. It is a former B & B but that was half the fun, even had an attempted spot check of the kitchens by environmental health who didnt realise it was now a private rental. We all had a fabulous time. Thank you!

A wonderful house in BownessOnWindermere, close to the shore and shops. A great base for the Lakes. I took my adult children there with their partners stacks of bedrooms, bathrooms, communal areas and parking. The bar was particularly popular. Attentive and thoughtful owners. I thoroughly recommend.
We were a family of 7 and our dog, and stayed over the Easter weekend the house was lovely and clean, we only cooked one night there was everything we needed, the dining table was great with lots of room for a everyone, the kitchen was well equipped. The location was perfect for walking into Bowness or Windermere, lots of restaurants around in walking distance too. The house was so warm and cosy and the bedrooms were clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend staying here. It was very easy to get into the property with the key box at the front.
Catherine

We stayed over the New Year and couldnt have asked for anything better. Beautiful house, well equipped, fantastic bar area which was well used. Everything on your doorstep, close to shops, pubs, entertainment and The Lakes. We didnt venture out too much as loved to stay in the house, it was so comfortable. Great communication from Andrew & Kate, who left a lovely hamper with some essentials to start you off. We would definitely recommend and we will be back Thank you
We were there for a family get together of 4 couples the house was perfect for this. Very comfortable. Spacious and well equipped. The free onsite parking is a a real bonus. All in all a pleasure to have stayed there.
Gary Paul
Lovely stay at Lonsdale house. Comfortable rooms, with good facilities and the bonus of your very own Bar. Centrally located between Bowness and Windermere, would recommend a stay.
We received a very nice welcome hamper from the owners which was a lovely touch. The house itself is perfectly situated right in the heart of Bowness and close to the lake and all amenities. We found the main living area of the house to be very dark inside with little or no natural light, the bedrooms are comfy and clean. The house needs to be redecorated brightened up and could do with some renovation.
Great property with plenty of space for a larger familygroup! The location is just perfect, and the hosts were responsive and helpful. Recommend!
Jordan
Really enjoyable stay. Central to all amenities and a short few mins walk to the lake. Well equipped, good parking which is like gold dust in Bowness and comfy beds. The property owners, Andrew & Kate, were super responsive and helpful before, during and after the stay, including returning some books we had forgotten. Thanks again.
Samantha
We had a lovely message from the owners when we were on our way and the welcome box of goodies was a lovely surprise. The house was quirky, clean and comfortable with plenty of space, wellsituated, close to Bowness and the lake. The owners were very contactable and quick to respond with answers to our questions. One of the showers leaked when we were there and they came to sort it out quickly. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend.
What a fantastic property. Nestled in the heart of Bowness on Windermere, its a great place to enjoy the local amenities and access lots of other surrounding areas. Andrew & Kate were very welcoming hosts, starting with a welcome text before arrival and a fantastic welcome pack on arrival. The house is amazing, has everything you need for your stay and we were all very comfortable during our stay including the 2 doggies. We would definitely return. Thank you for a lovely stay
Great location and property for a celebration with friends. Loved the welcome text and personal touch throughout our stay. Everyone loved the unique house, the room and space for everyone, including the dog. A mega location for a big birthday celebration and the bar was well used. We would book again and highly recommend.
We were welcomed with a nice text message and a lovely hamper. When we walked in we went Wow this is such a lovely quirky property full of character its very roomy for a large family with a fully fitted kitchen and large dining room and even a bar. Every room has a on suite toilet and shower the living room and spacious dining room is downstairs which leads out to a car park at the rear there is parking for four to five cars including the parking at the front of the property. It is situated perfect for the Beatrix potter experience and the centre of bowness which is only a short walk away so easy to eat out in the evening. We loved our stay and would definitely come back again. Simon and Michele from Norfolk
Fantastic location and standard of accomodation, I would definately reccomend.
We loved Lonsdale House. It was clean, well maintained, tastefully decorated and in a really convenient position in Bowness, close to bars, cafes, restaurants and the ferries on Windermere. We parked at the house and didnt use the car until our return home. The beds were comfortable and everything you could have possibly needed is provided along with a lovely complimentary hamper on arrival. It was warm weather when we stayed and we have two small dogs that loved the house as it was so cool and comfortable to sleep. There is a lovely walk just behind the house near the rugby club. I would say the only slight negative would be there is no outside space apart from car park which wasnt an issue as we were out and about most of the days. I would recommend and I would definitely return.
Wonderful place, a minutes walk to Bowness on Windermere, lovely welcome pack, all you could want, we would definitely go back.
Angela
Lonsdale House has everything you need for your stay . Clean , comfortable and spacious. Very conveniently situated with a lovely welcome from the owners . We would definitely recommend. Thank You.
Robert
This is an absolute gem
Lonsdale hse is fabulous a very warm & welcoming atmosphere. You feel at home straight away. Andrew & Kate are lovely people.
Fantastic accommodation in a great location for walking to shopsrestaurantslake and other attractions. The only slight problem we had was finding the rear car park so perhaps instructions could mention Bank Road, a few yards past Lonsdale House, is set back and easily missed. It might be a good idea to include the What 3 Words location for it. statement.code.producing httpsw3w.costatement.code.producing
Lonsdale house was the perfect property for our short stay in the lakes. Off road parking ideal location for pubs restaurants and shops. The house was spotlessly clean and well appointed, a lovely welcome pack from the owner on our arrival. We will return. Thank you.
A great holiday home for our large family. Loved that we all had our own bathrooms. The bar and living area is ideal, much bigger than it looks on the photos. We had a wonderful time and hope to return.
Samantha
Brilliant space , all fresh & decorated lovely , all facilities that's needed , ... Brilliant space , all fresh & decorated lovely , all facilities that's needed , if 1 thing I would suggest is to double glaze windows in bedroom for the car noise , being so close , but other than that just as described and so close to all amenities
Andrew
We had a family Christmas holiday there , it had a great kitchen and dinning ... We had a family Christmas holiday there , it had a great kitchen and dinning room we were a party of 7 dog so needed the space,
Melissa
House was in a fabulous location, 2 mins walk to the centre of Bowness and 67 mins walk to the lake. It was good to have the separate rooms with en suites and then the bar and lounge dining rooms as communal areas perfect for a group. Parking was excellent around the back, lots of space. The kitchen had everything you needed and very good none stick pots and pans! A lovely welcome pack with milk, tea, coffee, chocolates was provided by the owners as were dishwasher tablets and cleaning things. The only area for improvement would be that the sofas would benefit from a little refresh maybe refresh but apart from that everything was great. Loved our stay and would recommend to anyone wanting a central location, thanks for having us!
Gary Paul
Lovely and homely place to stay. In a great location close to Bowness. The main lounge is comfortable and a good family place, with the added bonus of your own bar. All the bedrooms are on suite, with three out of the four having four poster beds. Would recommend a stay at Lonsdale House.
Angela
Lovely property very well kept, beds comfortable. Ideally positioned in Windermere. Car parking for 6 cars, Andrew and Kate the owners were very helpful, if we are ever in the area again would stay in this lovely house.
We had a nice stay at Lonsdale House. There was a lovely welcome pack on arrival which was very much appreciated. The property was very clean and ideally situated for the local amenities and for visiting the wider area. There is plenty of parking and the kitchen is well stocked with cutlery, plates and glasses etc. Communication from the owners was excellent. The only minor areas that could be improved are that the showers are small and there was no facilities for recycling cardboard, plastics and bottles. Overall I would recommend staying at this property.
We booked this house, that used to be a hotel, for a family break. We were absolutely delighted with the amount of space and location the kitchen had plenty crockery, cutlery, glasses etc. There was a lovely welcome pack on arrival which included a box of tea bags, sugar, biscuits, milk, prosecco and chocolates. There was a mini supermarket within walking distance to buy any essentials. The property was about 10 minutes walk to Lake Windermere and there were loads of pubs, restaurants and cafe on the way there. All 4 of the bedrooms were of good sizes and were all ensuite. There was parking at rear and front of the house, we used the rear carpark because we had our dog the front of property didn't have a pavement. We had use of a large kitchen, dining room, sitting room and a bar which we stocked and made good use of. There were board games available to add to the family fun. The TV had Netflix at no extra cost. The owners were in contact to let us know the property was available earlier and messaged us on our last day to wish us a safe journey. There was only one area that I feel could improve this place and that would be for the showers to be modernised and larger cubicles. However, this aside, I would highly recommend this property for a family or friends break.
We had a wonderful stay at Lonsdale House. Definitely recommend it for a stay in Windermere. Very charming, spacious and with all facilities you need and more! So convenient to walk to the shops and down to Bowness.
Kantapat
Lovely place, owners are kind and quick to response to any of our needs
Douglas
Lovely property, with the centre of BownessonWindermere in easy walking distance. Good size dining room, conveniently adjacent to the wellequipped kitchen though a few of the pans could do with being replaced. Bar area great for socialising we moved some furniture around to fit in all our party of eight. Shame there is limited daylight in the downstairs areas. Parking for all four cars was a boon even though the parking arrangements limit the ability to sit outdoors. Bedrooms are nicely done, though some of the ensuite bathrooms are somewhat compact. Great the property allows dogs, and it was an easy walk to the lane behind the house on summer mornings and evening. Property owners were friendly and helpful.
