St Mary's Cottage Reviews

Jeanette
So let down by the uncleanliness of the property. I have never had to make such a complaint about how unclean we found a property on arrival. We had to clean and vacuum everywhere. The toilets needed to be cleaned before they could be used. It was obvious the condition we found the cottage in wasn't just from the previous guest. The toilets were particularly filthy. The beds appeared to be ok but pillows were badly stained as were the mattress protecters and mattresses both with quite a lot of yellow staining. We had food waste as the freezer wasn't able to be used. It was completely full of ice as the door didn't close properly. I noticed this was pointed out by a previous guest in October so assumed it would have been fixed just needs an adjustment on the door of the integrated freezer. Such a shame that just a lovely cottage is let down by lack of basic cleaning which would be an easy fix. Apart from this, we had a lovely stay and the location was perfect.
This is a clean, comfortable, and attractive cottage located within a very easy distance of Windermere's shops and amenities 30 seconds walk to the Coop. It is generally wellequipped with very comfortable beds and a nice selection of books and games. Parking on the street was never an issue we always found a spot available. We enjoyed our stay the only problem we had was that the underfloor heating in the main living area the basement kitchensitting room was not working for the whole of our stay. We did report this a maintenance man came round to look at it, agreed that it wasn't working, and said that a heating engineer would come to look at it but this never materialised. We gave up on chasing it as we just wanted to enjoy our holiday and not spend the whole time on the phone. It was a shame, as it meant that the main living area was chilly unless we had a fire burning I imagine that it is very cosy when the underfloor heating is working. Hopefully this has now been resolved for future guests. A couple of other minor issues the freezer was covered in thick ice and in need of a defrost, and the extractor fan in the downstairs bathroom didn't work. Also it would have been helpful to have handsoap provided in the bathrooms. Overall we still enjoyed our stay here the cottage is very pleasant and just needs a little bit of attention to make it perfect for guests.

The sink in the kitchen was leaking. Two doors don't close properly. One was the master bedroom one and other one is the downstairs toilets. A few things had quite a lot of dust on it. Bedsheets had hairs on them. Stairs had a lot of dust on them. Not enough supplies was given, like washing up liquid, hand wash. The sink in the toilet downstairs has issue where the water would take a long time to drain. Kitchen cookware are quite small, if cooking 5 people it's not enough. On the good side, the location is quite good. Grocery shops are really close. The house is quite nice and felt like home.
Myself & parents had a lovely stay, weve been coming up to The Lakes for over a decade now. The house is very homely & we spent most of our evenings in the lower ground floor. Will hopefully look at staying there again next year.
Thanks so much for an amazing stay. Windermere is a lovely little town and it was lovely to be in a quiet residential street but also be able to get to the Coop and Sainsburys in a 1 min walk. The house was excellent for our needs teenagers. The bedrooms were comfy and spacious, the bathrooms modern and clean. The front room was helpful for bags and storage, and to sit quietly alone. But we completely fell in love with the bottom floor open plan space and spent most of our time there. The main thing for future guests to be aware of is that the bottom floor shower room, while very convenient, is not very private when others are sitting in the lounge! We also couldn't get the fan to work, and the sink drained very slowly. The kitchen was very well equipped ample glasses and crockery, we really loved the large mugs just a few more teaspoons would have been good. A larger clothes drying rack would be a nice future addition. The handbook was very helpful but a few things were out of date e.g. recycling is now at the Broad Street car park. But these are just a few small things we loved this house, thanks again for an amazing stay!
House we stayed in was lovely. Perfect location to the town and nicely situated for trips into other areas of the lake district like Ambleside etc. only a 30min drive. Premises was very secure, spacious and clean. Felt more than comfortable and 'right at home' in the premises. Highly recommend this location to anyone looking for a peaceful stay int he lake district. We would love to return.
Another lovely stay. Everything about St Mary's cottage is superlative and of a far higher standard than any other holiday cottage we have stayed in. In particular the kitchen is very well equipped and the wood burning stove highly efficient and effective. It is very useful to have a downstairs shower and loo as well as the upstairs bathroom and shower with plentiful hot water. All the furnishings are luxurious and comfortable and the cottage is conveniently situated only a few minutes walk away from supermarkets, restaurants and takeaways and yet is in a very quiet and pretty street. We love coming here and we'll be back!
Lovely little cottage. Great location in Windermere town and a 30 min walk to the lake. Would definitely recommend this cottage and hope to return in the furure!

The pictures do not do this cottage justice, its had even more of a revamp since the pictures were taken. The checking in process was smooth and it instantly felt homely. Central to everything in Windermere and only a 5 minute drive to Bowness, soo many places to eat and drink around. The street to park is a little busy but the permit covers most of the area and theyre is a large carpark about a minute walk away. Honestly cannot recommend this place anymore

A delightful cottage. Modern clean fresh interior & had everything we needed for a few days break away. Attention to detail shows throughout the property. The kitchen was adequately equipped for what we needed. The small courtyard was just that but when you have an abundance of beautiful sights to explore the back yard wasnt a priority for us on this occasion. We were very lucky to have a parking spot right outside the property. As the weekend approached the struggle for parking was apparent around the town. Dont forget to display your parking permit as the parking warden is out & about early in the mornings! If you have mobility issues the stairs could be a little steep for some but all in all we were very happy with the property for ourselves. Only a couple suggestions, a covering for the back door, I placed a scarf over the door just for privacy. Also a door mat by the back entrance to wipe feet would be ideal to save the floors having to be wiped when that door was used. Would be more than happy to stop at this property again. Could the owner email the colour of the paint used in the bedroom please.

We loved the house, the location was perfect we got parking on the same road every day , it was lovely and clean and the furniture and fit out was new and modern which we loved. Walking distance to all pubs and high street and we took a nightly walk to Windermere park which is really lovely if you have a dog or children. There was one thing we couldnt get our heads around and that was the outdoor space, so much money and effort had gone in to the house but outside was horrible. It was really dirty, moss everywhere, broken lights hanging from the wall. There is the opportunity to have a really lovely little space to sit out with lights a canvas cover and flowers etc but literally no effort at all or thought had gone into it. Such a shame.
Richard
Lovely cottage in a really central location. The house was so clean and spotless, we loved our stay here. Parking permit was very convenient too and we never had a problem finding parking within a 5 min walk.
Joanne
Upon our arrival we found dog urine under the kitchen table which our dog obviously ran straight to ! the floors in the kitchen, living room and stairs were pretty filthy, we could see crumbs, dirt and dog hair. i called Sykes who said they would try getting hold of housekeeping. in the meantime i started sweeping and mopping the floors as we had a long journey, needed to remove the urine for obvious reasons and my grandaughter was running around without shoes. the cleaner did attend the property but at this point id virtually cleaned the entire floors. she insisted she had cleaned the flooring, not sure then how there was urine all over the floor under the table !! Its a shame to have had such a negative experience as the house is very comfortable and spacious. the house accommodates 5 and there are only 2 pans, one being very small so im not sure how a family of 5 would cook meals, we struggled. i also think the owners should consider a welcome pack, this is the first accommodation ive come across that doesnt have one doesn't need to be much but its a nice touch. Unfortunately i would not be able to recommend this property to others given the condition we found it in and goes without saying i wouldnt return. i got home yesterday and still neither Sykes or the owners have provided an apology or good will gesture which is very disappointing
Downstairs is lovely apart from there only being 1 saucepan and 1 frying pan! Not really ideal for cooking every night. The house is very much half and half. Nice bathrooms. Bedrooms not the best and the upstairs lounge is not looking great. The paintwork on the stairs banisters is horrid to touch as very sticky. The freezer was frozen over and we had to get someto sort it out as the door would not shut.
Sharon
We had a fantastic time the cottage is perfect location fantastic nears ... We had a fantastic time the cottage is perfect location fantastic nears restaurant bars etc and fantastic walks would definitely recommend
Charles
Ideal property for being close to amenities. Just lacks outside space. Could also do with a booster for the upstairs shower as it would s unusable when someone is using downstairs shower.
Sandra
Great house, super comfy beds, ideal location, loved the downstairs kitchenliving room space. Had a fabulous holiday here. Just to bring to your attention, water in bath drains away very slowly when showering. Yard floods due to downpipe in Salisbury Place being uncoupled when raining heavily.
Debbie
Lovely property, perfect location right in the centre of Windermere and easy to walk everywhere. Could do with a mat at the back door. We used this door quite a bit when walking into town. Also a blind or curtain at this door for privacy as door is overlooked by neighbouring properties. Could do with a few more tins for oven. Radiator in small bedroom was noisy at night. Otherwise lovely house and would definitely stay again. Highly recommended.
We enjoyed our stay at the cottage. Location was perfect for amenities and the rooms had obviously been updated recently. We spent most of our time downstairs in the kitchen lounge area. The small lounge on the ground level was redundant as a lounge and would make more sense to make it a small bedroom instead. My only negative was the small outside space which was unkept and not inviting . A few planters and some hanging baskets is all it would take to improve.
Alison
Property was lovely. Only criticism short on kitchen accessories pans. The outside space could do with a little TLC to make it more inviting to sit outside. The inside of property was lovely and met all our needs. We have stayed in other properties and a welcome pack was always a lovely surprise so maybe this might be an idea. Would recommend for location and would visit again.
Richard
Had a wonderful few days. The newly refurbished ground floor made for an excellent space to relax after a day walking, and the kitchen well equipped for anyone selfcatering. Excellent bathrooms on upper and ground floors and comfortable bed. Didnt really make us of the middle floor, and while older than the other two, was perfectly fine. Parking wasnt always outside the front of the property, but no more than a minutes walk down the adjoining road. Location excellent, close to all the local amenities. Would highly recommend.
Brouch
The property was Ideal for a family of 4 space was great had everything we needed. Home comforts.
Jacqueline
Had a great time. Excellent location. Having 2 bathrooms really helps and the basement space was lovely
Lovey cottage, amazing location and pictures accurately represented the place. Thanks for letting us stay, would happily stay again X
Jackie
A number of issues on a positive, the beds were comfortable. Location was a definite plus and the cottage was well equipped. The broken glass that was left in the cupboard on our arrival I left on the worktop! The cottage was very tired and dated aside from the basement level which was very comfortable and warm however although it was stated that the fuel was included, no logs were provided for the woodburner just kindling. We found a dirty cotton bud by the shower, the drainage was so slow in this downstairs bathroom, water gushed out from the shower tray which was mopped up with the bathmat. The 'yard' was unusable filthy dirty and not as the photo! no outdoor light but a security light which stayed on for approx 15 seconds. Next doors gutter turned the yard into Niagara Falls...it rained a lot during our stay. It feels like the property is part way through a renovation the bathroom bath had peeling enamel, lifting cushion flooring and the electric shower was very poor. I was extremely disappointed in this property which we had selected for my 60th birthday with my 'children' the WiFi didn't work. An outside light at the front would have been helpful as we were scrambling about in the dark trying to open the key safe on arrival after 4pm is DARK! I feel the property is over priced and to say we were all disappointed doesn't cover it. You could publish my feedback but dont feel obliged we left early n Sunday morning and decided we would be happier at home
The cottage was excellent and very well equipped. We had a lovely stay, our third time, and will gladly return, thanks.
The following email was sent on 21021 but no response was received Just a slight concern. Not a major issue but just want to make you aware of the following 1 The fridge had not been cleaned out, from the previous occupants it still contained a part bottle of milk. The salad drawer contains a dried spillage. 2 The freezer had also not been cleared out, from the previous occupants it still contained an opened bag of frozen potato wedges 3 The wheelie bin is full with the lid partly opened. I managed to compress the contents in order to close the lid. However this means that we have no room to put any of our rubbish. After reading the instruction, in the property, we discovered that the bin collection is on Thursday, so it would appear that the previous occupants were not aware of this. The instruction were found on the top shelf of the bookcase, perhaps these should be more prominently displayed.
Susanne
Had a brilliant stay! Just what we needed! Loads of walks. Good Central position.loved the kitchen and downstairs bathroom. We would certainly recommend St Mary's cottage!
Sharon
Was little or no internet Upstairs in need of updating Superb basement Area great
Richard
St Mary's cottage was a very comfortable cottage in an excellent location within Windemere. Despite some wetter summer weather than we had hoped for we enjoyed the surrounding countryside with some great walks, cycle rides and canoeing. The traffic between Windemere and Ambleside however was a bit heavy. The house was very comfortable and well equipped. It would be nice to have more of a manual and visitor information. The outside space is limited and spoilt by both the smell from an industrial bin placed just outside and a leaking gutter on the adjoining property.
Sandra
Nothing to do with the cottage itself but we couldnt sit outside or have the windows and doors open as next doors large bin was full and the smell was horrendous. The bin is situated tight against the cottages back wall and was overflowing with rubbish, so they couldnt close the lid.
Chelsea
The downstairs area with underfloor heating was delightful. The lounge on the middle floor could do with a little redecorating
