Silver Howe Reviews

Stephen
We have stayed at Silver Howe for the last two Christmas week periods and loved the house even more this time. It is warm, very comfortable and clean. I love the spacious kitchen. The location is excellent with so much to do such as lovely walks, lots of good pubs and restaurants in Bowness, Windermere and the lovely Ambleside and Grasmere nearby too. We did a trip on the boats this year which was fun and highly recommend for some interesting history of the lakes. We had an issue of no heating or hot water on Christmas Day of all days, but Lakelovers service was amazing a call back in 15 minutes and a heating engineer arrived within a couple of hours and the boiler repaired. A couple of improvements are, the dishwasher tablet dispenser is broken and was the previous year, this makes using it more difficult and sure it could be repaired. The kitchen needs a knife sharpener but the peeler with the marble effect handle is the best one Ive ever used. I wanted to purchase one but on googling it, they are only available in UAE countries. A full length mirror in the hallway would be perfect! We wanted to return for a third Christmas but already it is fully booked for next year. Thank you for the wonderful times we had at Silver Howe, hopefully we can return again sometime.

Our 6th visit to this absolutely beautiful house,it is so spacious, cosy & comfortable, everything you could possibly need, comfortable clean beds & bathrooms, lovely garden, although we had alot of rain this time Only 5 minute walk into Bowness & around 10 to Windermere. Our stay was made even more special, with the Christmas tree, outside fairy lights & other decorations around the house. Booked to stay again next December whilst we were there this time. Cannot recommend this home from home highly enough

This is a lovely property in an excellent location with easy access to Bowness and all its shops, restaurants and walks straight from the door. The house is very spacious with a huge livingdining room and plenty of seating. The kitchen is also large and well equipped with the additional living space in the conservatory although we didnt use this as our stay was in winter. The master bedroom is very spacious with a good sized bathroom and a smart tv is a welcome addition, the other 2 bedrooms are all comfortable with ensuite facilities, the smallest bedroom doesnt have an ensuite shower but there is a large shower room downstairs. It is worth mentioning that all the 3 TVs are smart and the internet is very fast. The only slight issue was that there was hair blockage to the drainage in the master bedroom shower which we had to clean out. Overall we had a fantastic holiday over the new year and the Christmas decorations were delightful. Thank you
Silver Howe was a real home from home so clean, comfortable and had everything you needed. Every room was decorated to the highest standard and was warm and welcoming. We stayed for a week and had a couple of nights in where we cooked, played games and watched TV , there was plenty of room for our family of 5 adults. The cottage is within walking distance of Bowness and Windermere where there are fabulous restaurants and cosy pubs. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone looking for a place to stay.
Silver Howe was all that it said in your info and more. The house was incredible and so so comfortable. It had everything we needed and lots beside. The beds were really comfortable and having all onsuites was remarkable. I would recommend this property to anyone who wanted an outstanding holiday.

Fabulous accommodation, made a great weekend with friends even more special.
This property is a fabulous house in a fabulous location. Very central for lots of activities. Would certainly recommend.

Only downside was only toilet and sink for third on suite
Overall, Silver Howe is a lovely house with all amenities and facilities catered for. The following is more of an observation than a criticism, the house could do with a good spring clean. There is thick dust and dirt on the outside of the shower cubicle in the main bedroom and dust webs in the conservatory. There are a number of damages to the second king size room sink, floor, and sisten. The lounge has a large burn on one of the sofa cushions and the kitchen units have damage to some of the units. There was no mention about these damages prior to our visit. Don't be put off by the above observations, Silver Howe is a very good holiday home and we would be happy to stay here again in the future.
This is our second stay at Silver Howe, it was fabulous again. A quiet tucked away gem with plenty of facilities. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you
This is our second stay at Silver Howe as a family of five. It's a beautiful house with large comfortable rooms. The kitchen is well equipped and the bedrooms are lovely. Easy parking for three cars. Quiet location within 10 mins walk of Bowness centre down the hill. This house feels like home from home to us. Only slight niggle was the heating. It's always warm downstairs maybe a little too warm, but upstairs it's cold. We plan to return next year. Can't wait.
Christine
Lovely warm and spacious house we return every year!

We had a wonderful stay at SIlver Howe. The house was exactly as described and we really appreciated the Christmas decorations, so festive. We felt at home with the space of all the rooms and the real fire. The house was warm and generally clean apart from some of the crockery and the surfaces by the cooker. We had an issue with the dishwasher as discovered it full of water when we went to use it on the Monday. We reported this and was told someone would hopefully come before Christmas day. Sadly no repair was made nor did Lakelovers get back to us throughout the week. However we have booked again for next year and hope the dishwasher will be repaired or replaced. This is likely the cause of the dirty crockery. Bowness is a lovely area with lots to do, friendly locals, a nice church and lovely viewswalks. Thanks for sharing your property.

Its our 3rd visit to Silver Howe, we thoroughly enjoy our stays there. We have already booked to return next year. Excellent facilities, kitchen really well equipped we always have good hearty meals while were there. Slow cooker, large stove, facilities are excellent.
Other than the plumbing of the WC in the main bathroom, this house is perfectly maintained and a fabulous place to stay. The cistern needs tightening, nothing major. As good and as spacious as it looks in the listing.

The property is a good sized accommodation and good value for money. Facilities are great. The only issue is that it is very noisy from within its own structure, amazingly lack of sound proofing.
Vehicular Access was awkward to the property and rooms were dark. Burn mark on settee dents in fridge doors and freezer door. Doors near the cooking area where sticky to the touch. The house was lovely and warm and bedrooms were comfortable and clean Hylda Smith

This was our fourth visit to Silver Howe a beautiful Cottage very well equipped ... This was our fourth visit to Silver Howe a beautiful Cottage very well equipped and very handy for Bowness and Windermere would highly recommend have already booked again for next year
Large house but poor location. Lights required at all times of the day as most rooms found to be dark and depressing with little light in back of hall and kitchen even on the sunniest of days as low cliff very close to rear of building half way around the house resembled being in a a small quarry. Conservatory roof has small leak, Intolerable noisy floorboards throughout meant that if anyone moved at night then everyone was woken up. Two of our party left half way through the week and I personally got away early on the last day. Very disappointed considering the price paid.
Geraldine
Silver Howe is a very comfortable and lovely house to stay in. There was everything you could possibly need for a stay in the Lake District. If there was one criticism we had it was the lighting could have been better, we realised the house was built into the rock face but use of better lighting would have made some things easier to do. This did not detract from our stay at all.
Kimberly
Having read previous reviews, we were aware that you have to bring your own woodlogs etc to use the open fire but would be a good idea to make this clear when advertising the property to avoid disappointment. The house was a real home from home with excellent beds and enough space for our family. One point to note is that whilst the wooden floors are lovely, it was very slippy under four in the hall area and one of our party a pregnant lady nearly suffered a fall as she slid along the floor. Possibly a notice to caution guests would ensure extra care is taken when entering. Would definitely look to book in the future.
Had a great stay. Lovely location and so cosy and everything you need for a comfortable stay.
Alison
Loved location and the house. A real gem!
We really enjoyed our stay at Silver Howe. The property is spacious and beautiful. Rooms are light and airy. Everything we needed is provided. It would have been nice to receive a small welcome pack but this is the only thing I would suggest for improvement. Parking was good. Location great. The house was warm. Beds were comfortable. Kitchen well equipped. We will be returning next year.
Christine
Our third time staying in Silver Howe and we have booked again for next year. Lovely warm and spacious house with a very well equipped kitchen and comfortable sitting room. Perfectly located to walk into Bowness.
The kitchen and conservatory floor had not been mopped. The conservatory floor had broken bits of biscuits under the conservatory table. The conservatory settees had a thin layer of dust on them. The staircase hadn't been cleaned either! All these jobs had to be done by me! We've payed 2k for this place for a week! I shouldn't be cleaning a property on the first day absolute disgrace! However, the bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and tidy though! There was also two fag ends outside by the front door! This is a beautiful property that's been let down by poor cleaning!
Very much enjoyed silver Howe we have booked it again for January, very warm and ... Very much enjoyed silver Howe we have booked it again for January, very warm and comfortable nice touch Christmas decs up, My only complaint would be cutlery shabby for such a quality home thank you
Andrew
It would have been full stars on all above but we had an issue with the heating mid week the boiler pressure had dropped so that it wouldnt switch on and it was very cold and snowy so was quite cold in the house. We had to call the support number a few times but they sent out the plumber within an hour and he had to remove the washing machine to get to the pipe valves to re pressurise the boiler. He didnt fully re fit the washer as he said the valve was dripping and needs fixing. Due to the snowfall the cars were snowed in on the property but luckily i carry a snow shovel in winter. It might be good though if the property had a shovel available on the premises for such emergencies ?. Obviously this was extreme weather so not a bad feedback isdue but just an idea. Overall our stay was brilliant.
One of the nicest properties we have stayed in. Wonderfully warm and welcoming on arrival. This property had everything we needed. The beds were really comfortable. Fabulous kitchen, we couldnt find anything we were short of. Even used the slow cooker! Showers brilliant, water pressure exceptional. Looking at the rock faces via kitchen rear doors fantastic. We loved this property, cannot wait to return.
Silver Howe was a lovely clean and spacious home we loved the kitchen iit provided everything we needed ,all three bedrooms were very comfortable . We had a great holiday and would love to return Irene
Joanne
Overall the house was clean and tidy and facilities fairly good. For us, it was just too enclosed and dark inside, especially at the back in the kitchendining room and the third bedroom, which by the way only has a toilet and basin ensuite and you have to travel downstairs past the front door for a shower! The details on the website are not completely clear on this point I know it mentions being set in rock but the photos do not show how close and oppressive it is! The window frame in the main bedroom is completely rotten now, I'm surprised it is able to hold the glass and you certainly couldn't safely open it. I think we were all just a little disappointed, it didn't live up to our expectations. We actually came home a day early. On a positive note, it's a nice walk into town and down to the lake but sorry we won't be returning.
Absolutely gorgeous house with everything we needed. Silver Howe has comfortable beds, spacious rooms and good quality household amenities. We didnt want to leave ! It is also close to lots of lovely walks and lakes, I highly recommend this house.
Lovely place great location we had a good stay there. There were a few minor maintenance issues 1. In the main bedroom one of the window frames at the bottom was rotten and needs replacing, 2. There is a wasp nest in the roof eves above the conservatory that needs attention. We were pestered by wasps in the conservatory all week, 3. A light bulb in the main bedroom ensuite was flickering and needs replacing, 4. The dishwasher tablet mechanism does not work. Lastly, it would be useful when ringing Lake Lovers who manage the property that there were 3 hairdryers provided, a cleaning welcome pack was provided and its contents, there was no washing machine powder provided so bring your own we were told there would be some, fairy liquid was provided, rubbish sacks provided and there is a well stocked kitchen including cheese grater and slow cooker. There was also 2 cafetires.
Maurice
Very nice property. Felt homely and well appointed. Very comfortable stay. Would book again. The adjacent property was not let during our stay and had it been not sure that car access would not have been compromised

The house was perfect and we had an amazing stay. The kitchen was very well stocked and clean. The conservatory was lovely for meals in the warm evenings. The bedrooms were great.
Teresa
Really enjoyed our stay at Silver Howe, the property has been refurbished to a very high standard and tastefully furnished. Really good location, would definitely consider staying again. Our youngest family member has mislaid her jellycat monkey
On arrival we were totally in awe of Silver Howe. Such a welcoming home of considerable size. We had a short stay celebrating my sisters 60th and what a stunning place to do that. Facilities in the home were exceptional and the kitchen well stocked. The welcome packs were such a nice touch, All occupants slept so well and Im sure we all checked what mattresses were being used on the beds. Bathrooms to die for. Shops easy to reach by car or a slow walk. We just fell in love with the house and setting. Nestled in slate and rock luminous moss is a true dream of a house. We will definitely come back and will recommend to anyone. It has already been posted on Facebook. Thank you both xx
Everything at the property was spacious, clean and lovely decorated through out . We had a really nice stay in Bowness and will defiantly be booking the house again , the location was spot on for a walk into the lakeside.
Only disappointment was there were no supplies to light the fire.
