Old Village House Reviews

Andrea
We had a lovely stay in the old village house and we were very surprised with how spacious the place is. The house was very clean and the kitchen had everything you could think of. The bedrooms were comfortable and the bathrooms large and clean and it was a lovely touch to have the roll top baths as well as the walk in showers. The parking is a bonus but a little tight and the location is great for the bars and restaurants. The only thing we all commented on was that the bedrooms could benefit from having blackout blinds as the existing blinds do let a lot of light in, mostly from the bright lights from Booths and the 2 rental shops opposite. Our sleep was affected. However, the place is lovely and we would recommend it
Hannah
We had a great 3night stay at The Old Village House to celebrate my mums 60th birthday. The place was lovely, clean, and had everything you needed for a short break. The beds and furniture were very comfortable too. The cottage is in a fantastic location and we would love to stay again. Well definitely be recommending it to others! Just one observation, it would be a nice added touch if some logs and firelighters were provided for the log burner we arrived late on a wet and windy night and had to go back out to buy some. I also emailed Lakelovers a couple of days before our arrival with a request and didnt receive a response. Other than that, the cottage was well equipped with everything you need and the parking for two cars was an added bonus! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Thank you!
Allison
Perfectly situated at the top end of Windermere. This quirky and very spacious house is beautifully furnished and had everything we needed. The upper bedroom is reached via a narrow spiral staircase and has a lovely big bath in the bedroom. We loved the huge kitchen and although there is no garden, just a small back yard, our dog was happy to visit a small grassy area just across from the house. We found that we did not use the dining room as it was too far from the kitchen. Maybe this room would be more useful as a second lounge or even a bedroom for those who cannot climb too many stairs. Overall, a stunning house in a great location with some excellent eating places nearby and the bus and train station next door. Would highly recommend.
Lovely property that has been renovated to a high standard and has an ideal location in the centre of Windermere and Booths just around the corner. With town being busy it was great to have the parking spaces. The layout is a little quirky and may not suit everyone, but we loved it and will definitely look to book again.
Raymond
Very comfortable cottage with excellent facilities. Kitchen was very well equipped and finishes were top notch. We will definitely be back, just not with our elderly parents as there were too many steps within the cottage to various levels. A few extra handrails would solve this. Very handy to have the parking and shops etc right on the doorstep.
Man Lai
Wellmaintained house. Not only clean and tidy, but also unique in style.
This is a truly lovely holiday home in a great location for shops, pubs, cafes, and both the bus and train station. Although situated on quite a busy road, it was quiet at night. The property has a well stocked kitchen, very comfortable beds and luxury showers. The large towels are soft. The sofas are very comfortable. The TV is a little small and could do with updating. I couodnt figure out tge washerdrier. Instructions would be really useful. The back yard is secure. We would thoroughly recommend this property.
Brilliant property, clean and tidy. Excellent location and surronding area.
Beautifully appointed property, really conveniently located. Thank you for a lovely stay!
Edward
A great property in a great location. Please note that it can be noisy at certain times of day, and on a Friday and Saturday night. There is a Chinese restaurant next door and it can be smelt on occasion although the food is very good.
Great place with parking for two cars. Pubs, restaurants and shops all on door step.
Barbara
Excellent location in the centre of Windermere, and having dedicated parking spaces made it so much easier. Plenty of places to eat out nearby. Property is nicely decorated throughout and well equipped, and exceptionally clean. We were aware of the steep staircase to the 2nd floor bedroom but didnt intend to use it so was not a problem for us.
Jacqueline
2nd time staying at this property. Sad to see it up for sale. Thanks for thoughtful welcoming gift, ie coffee etc.
Excellent accommodation and would def stay again. Few issues to highlight that would help though.the cleanliness was overall very good however the cooker hood extractorsfilters are badly needing deep cleaned or replaced. The shower in the ensuite above lounge has a loose connection as was difficult to stop the shower dripping. Overall though a great stay though, very good location and modern house.perhaps a starter pack for the wood burner would help guests for the first night.
Claire
Old Village Cottage is in a central location with a great choice of quaint shops, restaurants, bars & supermarkets within walking distance. The off street parking was so helpful. The property is really well equipped with lots of space yet feels so cosy & homely. The layout for perfect for us with all bedrooms having an ensuite bathroom as we were holidaying with grown up children. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend.
Joanne
Lovely property and perfect location for Windermere and a walk into bowness
Andrew
It was a really lovely cottage, very clean and exactly as described. We had a great stay there despite some awful weather and would definitely recommend it.
Great property, parking for two and plenty of spaces either on the road opposite the house or pay & displays nearby. Beautifully decorated property and lots of room for 6 adults, the en suites were generous in size, very deceptive and spacious. Didnt attempt to carry a suitcase up the spiral staircase, left that to the youngsters. The house was very well equipped although it did take a while to find the hidden cutlery draw, if only Id read the cottage information sheet first We had a great time and were able to find places to eat and drink with our dog within a few minutes walk. Our dog wasnt really keen on toileting in the courtyard but we found a grassy area not far from the house. We loved our time here and would definitely book again. Two of the most senior adults fell up the kitchen steps and down but no harm done. We were warned

Old Village House is a beautifully presented property. It was very well equipped with everything we needed and was very clean on arrival. Parking for two cars was really helpful as we had our children and their partners staying with us for most of our time there. The location is ideal for Windermere centre with plenty of places to eat and local shops to explore. A 25 minute walk down to Bowness is a nice way to start the day or you can just jump on the bus service which is reliable, clean and fairly priced. We will return.
A great house with access to local facilities in Windermere. Old Villiage House was exceptionally clean and well presented. Repeat with good facilities and thoughtful touches, we had a great time there.
The Old Village House is amazing, confortable and beautiful property to stay. The kitchen is equiped with so much of cutlery and utensils that you dont have to care about washing them twice in a day. The rooms are cozy, they smell nice and there is so much for people of all age to do in the house. Recommend it and will stay again.
Amanda
A lovely cottage in a great location although being in the centre of the town it was quite noisy some nights. It was well equipped with everything we needed, and clean on arrival. The spiral staircase to the top floor is narrow and wobbly and I dont think this is emphasised enough in the listing.. not great for elderly young children etc.
Gillian
Fantastic accommodation! The owners said they have spent 4 years renovating the house and it is certainly evident in the standards that they have achieved it has been so tastefully done. Perfect location in the centre of Windermere. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend.
We had a wonderful week at this lovely cottage, we met up with our adult children and their partners so were delighted to have 3 large bedrooms and bathrooms available to us plus an extra shower room downstairs. Everything was provided at this cosy cottage if you wanted to eat in and plenty of restaurants around and about if you chose to dine out. The cottage is in a great location and we could walk down to Bowness, we were also only a short drive from Kendal, Ambleside and Grasmere.
We enjoyed a lovely week at Old Village House, 2 adults, 3 children ages 2, 12 and 14 and a dog age 15. The location is fantastic for exploring the Lakes, near the train station, Booth's supermarket and lots of cafes, pubs and restaurants. The house was the cleanest holiday home I have stayed in, and the owners have left things in the property to make the visit easier air fryer, washing maiden, dish washing liquid and tablets, tea and coffee etc. A highchair and cot bed were available under one of the beds, though the house may not be suitable for all infants as there are steps down to the kitchen and one of the ensuite bathrooms. The spiral stairs to the top floor may also be tricky for young children or the elderly but my 12 and 14 year old loved the attic room. The different levels add to the character of the property, it's quite an interesting old house, and the description does advise to take care on the steps, so we were aware of this before arrival. The house would also be great for 3 couples holidaying together as the bedrooms are all like master bedrooms with king size bed and ensuite bathrooms. There are lots of activities to do near by too, Brockholes, Beatrix Potter World, boat trips, steam train ride, aquarium and motor museum. We didnt have time to do everything and if we decide to visit the area again, I would love to stay in the Old Village House.
Darren
Lovely clean house. Cant wait to rebook. Great position, very close to shops and booths right behind was perfect.
Nice property in a great location. Plenty of space for a family of four. As with previous customers, the heating is a bit erratic. The towel rails were problematic. They were red hot at the bottom and cold at the top need bleeding? and made very loud clanking sounds at certain times until we turned the dial down. We turned them off in the end as they woke us up several times. Bedrooms need blackout blinds too as they only have basic slat blinds. Loads to do nearby and well placed for buses and trains too. Overall recommended, but please do get the heating issues sorted.
Jacqueline
Stunning property in great location with bonus of designated parking. Well equipped and very comfortable. Having visited the Lakes for the past 15 years, this is definitely the best property I have stayed in. Looking forward to staying there again.
Nicola
Truly amazing cottage, location just brilliant everything in walking distance and cottage itself was just gorgeous! The cottage has so much space, is well equipped and the facilities were top quality! We will definitely be back!
Rachel
Absolutely stunning property, in a fab location. . everything on your doorstep. We will definitely be back.
Damian
Really well located in the town with Booths supermarket behind and lots of places to eat close by. A very high standard of accommodation and well equipped too. Parking on the driveway out front is a bonus. Would definitely stay again and was sorry not to be there for a second week. Point to note is that the top bedroom is up a very steep and narrow spiral staircase so would not suit everyone. The only improvements I would make and these are very minor, which goes to show how fantastic the property is are locks on the bathrooms and a less annoying cutlery drawer you'll know what I mean if you stay.
Richard
The property is one of the cleanest we have ever stayed at. The facilities are excellent, and we had a fabulous stay. The property is perfectly placed with all the local shops, bars and take aways close by. The train station is also very close by which allowed us to have some days out and leave the car at home. We could not find fault with anything and are looking forwards to a return visit. The property is decorated and furnished to a high standard. You will not be disappointed if you book and stay here.
The shower in the front bedroom could do with a non slip mat. We found the heating system confusing and difficult to manage, especially as the temperature dropped during our stay. The property is lovely and very well equipped. It's such a shame it is next to a takeaway. On the one occasion we could sit out in the late afternoon, we had to come in because of the smell. Very central and had a fabulous stay. Ages ranged from 17 to 78.
The house is in a perfect location for exploring the Windermere region. However, the fabulous accessibility to all the amenities in Windermere means that you may have road noise from quite early in the morning. The house was well presented and very well equipped. There are a lot of quirky stairs to encounter when moving from room to room but they are mentioned by the owner on the website. Would definitely return and recommend
Stephen
Loved the cottage and the location, we had an excellent week and hope to be back soon!
Michelle
Fantastic location right in the heart of Windermere. Cottage was beautiful, spacious and spotlessly clean. I will definitely be returning.
Daniel
The property its self met expectations for the price charged. However with regards to the heating the Nest control was locked and could only be accessed via a pin. The heating was set at 16, however I was able to increase to 21 on occasions other times I couldnt because its controlled by the owners using their App. Living in Singapore for the last 17 years I am used to the heat and at times to many the house was cold ! Luckily I had the log fire
