Middlerigg Reviews

Claire
We had a lovely stay in this comfortable and well equipped cottage over Christmas. The location is beautiful and peaceful, being set back from the main road. We enjoyed some delightful walks all within a short drive and even some straight from the front door. The weather was amazing all week, which was a real bonus!! Comfortable beds and plenty of additional blankets provided. Small point we would have liked a washing up bowl or plug for the kitchen sink. We will definitely add Middlerigg to our list of possible places to stay when we return to the Lake District. Thank you.
Joanna
Great cottage perfect for 3 couples or a family. Please consider a larger bottom sheet on the downstairs bed and new pillows and duvet on the main bed as they are a little flat. Also maybe new cushion inners in some of the cushions downstairs.
Beautiful, extremely clean, well stocked cottage. My family and I hsd a wonderfully staff would definitely return.
Michael
Clean and very convenient to both Ambleside and Windermere. Just back from the main road but little ir no traffic noise. Easy parking and with gated entrance it feels a bit superior. Bedding did not fit the mattresses, the latter was 23inches deeper so the bedding pulled out every night and got in a right state. Needs much deeper sheet and under sheet.
This is a lovely cottage in a very handy location, between Ambleside and Windermere. When booking, I wasn't sure what the immediate surroundings of the cottage would be like and it was a lovely surprise to find that it is part of a nice cluster of holiday cottages, surrounded by gardens and then fields beyond, with beautiful views. Maybe photos of this could be included? The cottage was very well equipped and had supplies of everything you might need, dishwasher tablets etc. Middlerigg was great for us because we had my mother in law with us who has some mobility issues, so the ground floor bedroom with walk in shower was perfect. We would definitely book again.
Graham
Lovely cottage, clean and everything we needed was supplied. Perfect location for exploring. Would definitely book again
This is a lovely cottage in a peaceful setting yet close to Windermere and Ambleside. The only downside is because we're old! So found the settees too low. We also found the bed too soft but realise that's a personal preference. It was very well equipped with plenty of mugs, cutlery etc. The cooking pans were new and good quality. Easy rubbish disposal often not very good on holiday cottages We loved the great choice of DVDS!!
Richard
Middlerigg cottage has been a holiday home destination for our family for many years , thank you for allowing us to create many more wonderful memories with our dear loved ones. Very comfortable and clean. Beautiful position, weather perfect!
A peaceful relaxing location with the added bonus of been near the bus stop to Windermere, Ambleside and other tourist areas. Also, across the road there is an activity centre with lovely walks down to the lake side where you can hire boats and canoes. Plenty for children and adults ti do in a plesant wooded area. The cottage is very well equiped and comfortable. Only one issue I would recomend a yellow warning stripe on the pavement edge into the cottage. Hope to visit again.
A clean well equipped cottage in an ideal location for the fells. Really enjoyed our stay
Property is very nice with a very good standard of fixtures and fittings, well equiped kitchen and comfortable living area, we were more than satisfied with the property but we knew it would be nice after having stayed at Middlerigg before, this is just a sugestion, spare bin liners would be handy and a place to put shower gel or shampoo etc in the en suit shower. we had a super stay at Middlerigg and will certainly return.
Joanna
Lovely cottage and enjoyed our stay. Great space with three bedrooms and 2 bathrooms Maybe consider new duvets next season
Lovely cottage, ideally located between Windermere and Ambleside. The beds were very comfortable and it appears the bathrooms have been updated since the previous comments, as they were very modern and clean. It would be helpful if there was information about local take aways, restaurants and taxi companies in the folder, even if it was just a list of recommendations. It would also be helpful to have clearer instructions about the woodland walk to Ambleside that was mentioned briefly in the folder. We spotted some parking dials on the bookshelf, but again no information about what they were for. We couldnt connect the TVDVD player to the internet to make use of its basic smart facilities. Otherwise we had a lovely stay and would happily stay again.
Lovely place to stay, very clean and comfortable.
Rosemary
A very comfortable, clean and cosy cottage thank you! We very much appreciated the lovely beds, the excellent kitchencooking facilities and the amount of storage space. The location was great for accessing Windermere and Ambleside. We only discovered the walk through the woods from the property at the end of our stay, so more clear directions on how to find this could be helpful!
We really enjoyed our stay at Middlerigg. It was comfortable, clean and everything we needed was there. It was also very good being so centrally located.
Super location, beautiful setting. Lovely cottage with everything thought of to make our stay enjoyable. Would definately recommend this property.
Very lovely, well maintained and well appointed property. Had everything we needed for a comfortable, relaxing and enjoyable stay. Loved the location and proximity to Ambleside but without all the hustle and bustle and parking problems. Would very much like to return.
It was a lovely cottage very well equipped with everything we needed and the beds were very very comfy which lead to a great night's sleep.
This is a lovely cottage in a perfect location. Five minutes walk to Brockhole, a few minutes drive to WindermereBowness or Ambleside. Ample room for six people with a lovely open plan layout downstairs. Our grandchildren are paddle boarders and we found a lovely spot at Middleground along the Bowness road which has a car park with toilets and is a short walk down to the lakeside, or if youre lucky, a layby just before the car park which has access to the lake if youre able to carry equipment a bit further. Just a couple of things missing which is why Ive only given a 4 for some questions. The outside light is not working and, as there is a step up to the door, can be quite dangerous for younger children and sometimes adults too. We couldnt find a kitchen sink plug anywhere so it was difficult to clean grill and grill pan. The information folder told us there were details in a basket by the front door about refuse and estate rules but there was nothing in the basket other than fire instructions. Might I also suggest a casserole dish. We ate in almost every night and we did manage but it would have been much easier to have one. And yes the downstairs ensuite needs updating previous reviewer but it was spotlessly clean. Please dont let any of this put you off staying here. It really is a lovely place and we will definitely stay her again.
Elaine
Another enjoyable week at this lovely cottage. 4th visit says it all!
Robert
Our stay at Middlerigg was fine and generally matched the description given however, the shower in the ensuite needs a little TLC. The shower hose looks unsightly and leaks despite this being highlighted in a review in June and the shower door is extremely rickety. Also the property description states there is a smart TV, but it is not.
Really enjoyed our stay at Middlerigg. Very comfortable cottage and well equipped in a lovely setting near Lake Windermere. Very nice cafe at the activity centre across the main road in easy walking distance. The Merewood Hotel is a short but steep walk from the cottage and has beautiful views and good food. The Cottage was very quiet considering the main road is just down the lane and only a few miles from Ambleside which we really liked. Lots of shops in Ambleside and quaint cinema with vegetarian restaurant which was excellent. The Apple pie cafe was well worth a visit. Lots of National Trust places to visit and NT parking which was great as we are members. Would definitely recommend Middlerigg, we really enjoyed our stay.
Shower hose in en suite bathroom leaking, requires a new hose.
Elaine
Our third visit to Middlerigg. Everything as good as previously. Location, facilities, comfort exceptional. Brockhole beautiful. When do you ever read this after a stay in the Lakes the weather was hot, hot, hot! Thank you Karen for your concerned call before arrival. Hope to return.
Idyllic setting and very peaceful. A few other properties are nearby but you are unaware of any comings and goings. The countryside views from the cottage windows are gorgeous, especially in early morning and late evening sunshine. The bedrooms are spacious with large comfortable beds and roomy wardrobes. Kitchen and bathrooms are attractive and very clean. Lots of local information & loads of videos! A really lovely place to stay Middlerigg. Highly recommended! Maureen & Peter Nottingham
Elaine
Best place weve stayed on our many visits to Cumbria! So comfortable, clean and in a beautiful setting. Well situated with buses, ferries at the end of the lane. We have a wonderful time and will definitely be back!
Elizabeth
The kitchen and bathrooms were clean but everything was a bit dusty and the oven had something sticky on the base.
Alicia
Really great stay everything was perfect, location was also brilliant.
What a great find and will return as we visit the Lakes at least once per year. We knew the property was in a great quiet spot but the accommodation was great and kitchen really well equipped. The biggest plus though was the bedrooms all beds were so comfortable. Thanks very much
Very well equipped kitchen. Cleaniness excellent. We really enjoyed our 3 generation family holiday.
Lovely property in a beautiful private location. Everything we needed for a comfortable family stay was included.
Lindsey
We had a lovely stay at Middlerigg Cottage. It was spotlessly clean and comfortable, well looked after. Excellent facilities. Perfect location, peaceful and quiet. Beautiful. Brockhole Visitors Centre is nearby. We have loved staying here and would definitely return. Highly recommended.
Louise
Superb cottage with good walks very close by. Chose this cottage based on previous good reviews and will look forward to staying here again in the future.
Xiaolan
Convenient location, very quiet. would like to return if coming to the lakes again
Urszula
Great location and facilities! Really recomended!
Imelda
Very high standard of cleanliness. Good location, easy access to everything we wanted to do. But quiet and peaceful
Elaine
Our second stay at this property. Lovely location. Very clean, comfortable beds, nicely furnished with good quality kitchen equipment. Would gladly return for a third visit. Great weather this time too!
Louise
A beautiful cottage. Excellent facilities. Extremely clean. Excelled our expectations. We have stayed in many cottages over the years and can safely say that Middlerigg is one of the best. The location is perfect. Our 8 year old twins loved exploring Brockhole, especially the play park, when all the crowds had left it doesnt close until 8pm! I would, however, agree with a previous guest that the flush on the bathroom toilet is very difficult to use and a bit of perseverance is needed. Thank you for a wonderful stay, I have already looked into booking Middlerigg for next year.
Beautiful property in a perfect spot!
