Workshop Cottage Reviews

Brenda
Our second stay here this year says it all!
Lovely place to stay very central and well kept property.
Nice cottage and great for access to the town and lake Windermere. Cleanliness fine and very comfortable. Having stayed in quite a few Sykes cottages so we are comparing it to them and sadly it lacked in some areas, No instructions for anything other than manufacturers booklets, most places usually issue basic fact sheets for all appliances, heating,TV, etc. We perceive most people who stay here eat out in the town as the kitchen had only minimum utensils and no left over products eg olive oil, vinegar sugar etc. where all previous cottages did. We were only a couple but it could accommodate 56 people and only one toilet roll ! As we have stayed in many cottages and thought the price we paid this time it would be a premium stay but I have to say we have paid 40 less for something much better.

Perfect location very clean everything we need we where there same time last ... Perfect location very clean everything we need we where there same time last year really enjoyed our second visit will be next year
Brenda
A beautifully furnished cottage with everything you could need. Very tasteful in design. Geographically an ideal location. Parking was quite easy. Restaurants on doorstep. Unfortunately could be quite noisy outside at night. Would happily stay again though.
Caroline
Home from home,,so comfortable and inviting, perfect location. Our second stay here and hopefully will be back.
Carole
Really good property, just one small criticism. ..no room to put any food so we had to re arrange cupboard space. Everything else was excellent Will deffo return Thank you
This cottage is simply lovely. We had a great stay in an ideal location. The cottage was extremely comfortable and fully equipped with everything we could need. The only fault was the two little dogs constantly barking at the gate next door.

The place was lovely , comfy and spacious but there were a few things that werent so great , no batteries for the tv remotes , the fire didnt work , the shower water was kind of hot but the bath water was practically cold we had to boil the kettle and the delivery pub next door was so loud smashing bottles , loud banging and chattering but apart from that the balcony was lovely the kitchen was great and the location was perfect one thing I will say the heating worked very well but maybe needed a few more instructions on how to work it
Perfect property and location. Quality furnishings and appliances. Would definitely stay again x
Had another lovely stay at the cottage. Little noisy now there are more properties nearby but didnt spoil our stay. Unfortunately previous renters had taken car park pass when they left the property which was a bit of a nuisance but we managed apart from one parking fine to park our car nearby. Sykes sorted the issue quickly and it was all resolved. Beautiful cottage a proper home away from home. Layout worked perfectly for us too. Lovely comfy beds and the dressing room was a real bonus. Our little dog had a wonderful time. The small 2 seater settee although comfy has seen better days. Other than that lovely
Our second stay at workshop cottage and thoroughly enjoyed it again. Cottage is still in good condition two years on but little attention needed to touch up paintwork repair broken blind in living room and blind in downstairs dressing room. Lots of technology but let down by no working batteries in the various remote controls. All pretty minor issues and easy to remedy and nothing that spoiled a great week.

We loved work shop cottage fantastic in the centre Of Bowness and parking ... We loved work shop cottage fantastic in the centre Of Bowness and parking permit was great Place had everything in we needed Will defo be back
Great little cottage. Very modern and all facilities you could wish for. Perfect location. My only constructive feedback would be to offer a 12noon checkout. 10am is too early. Also offer 2x sets of keys and 2x parking pass. As we were two couples who had to share the keys and pass and it was a pain. Other than it was great.

Amazing cottage right next to many shops and restaurants. Superbly done up on the inside and its evident from the moment you step foot into the property that the owners have given a lot of thought while furnishing this. What let us down was the approach to the cottage. It almost shares a door with the back entrance of a pub and there were loud noises in the middle of the night. Also, on one day we had a very large refuse bin with rubbish flowing out along with beer kegs left at the door step.
Caroline
Everything was just lovely, very clean, parking sometimes a problem. Two sets of door keys would be a benefit.
My overall stay at the cottage was fantastic great location. We had a couple of issues and they are. It doesn't state when advertising that the Westmorland Pub rear exit is next to the cottage entrance door. Staff us the entrance morning and night and slam the gates closed. The hallway light sensor doesn't work and the light is on continuously and no way to turn it off.
The cottage is kept immaculate. Such a beautiful property to stay in the lakes. I hope to stay again in the future
Lovely little cottage located right in the centre. Clean and very well equipped for nights when we wanted to cook. Parking was ok we managed to find a space easily. Water wasnt the hottest & there was a bit of noise early mornings but didnt put us off at all. Would definitely recommend workshop cottage. Thank you for a lovely stay for our first time in the Lake District!
Alison
Great location. Comfortable and cosy cottage with great facilities.
There's plenty of room in the property with two good sized bedrooms, as well as a dressing room and living space. The Smart TV, comfy furniture and modern kitchen facilities allowed us to make ourselves right at home. The property is in an excellent location with the shops & restaurants of Bowness right on it's door step. We had no issues with onroad parking, however I can imagine this being trickier in the summer months. There was a small amount of noise no more than 30 seconds on a couple of nights from workers leaving the pub, but nothing that would keep you up at night. Both pay offs that are worth it for being so central. Would certainly recommend!
Difficulty parking but otherwise a beautiful cottage with all mod cons.
A beautiful cottage which has been thoughtfully and lovingly designed, for example heating on the terrace and automatic lighting as you come downstairs. Facilities are second to none. Great location but such a pity that there is a gate for a pub right by the door. We were woken each night a couple of times by either staff or patrons noisily leaving, which I understand is no fault of the owners, but is just such a shame as otherwise would be perfect as it was unfortunately detrimental for sleeping.

Such a lovely cottage renovated to a high standard throughout and was well equipped with everything you would need for a comfortable stay. A hidden gem in the heart of BownessonWindermere. Will definitely be returning!
The cottage was very well situated in the heart of Bowness allowing access to all relevant activities. It was well maintained and the kitchen had all the facilities required. However, the property was very small and felt cramped. Also, it is situated behind a hotelrestaurant which produces a foul odour from its kitchen and places its industrialsized rubbish bin at the entrance to the cottage. This meant that we were unable to enjoy the outside space at any point. Also there are no views of the lake or surrounding countryside from the property as it is very enclosed. Finally, there was some renovation of the nextdoor property going on at the time of our stay and the builders consistently started noisy work at 730 every morning.
A really lovely cottage, was very clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. Location was also perfect, a short wall to the lake with plenty of restaurants nearby. Would definitely book again.
Beautiful cottage with everything you could wish for to have a wonderful stay. Lovely comfy beds, gorgeous bathroom, and in a brilliant location. Our little dog had a lovely time. We loved the balcony which was a real sun trap. Will definitely be visiting again.
The cottage itself was lovely. Nice decor and cosy feel. Huge telly, pleasant lounge, good kitchen area and bedrooms comfortable. However the internet connection didn't work, but this was not really a problem as we had lots of data allowance on our phones. Think if you don't know the area the picture of the front of the cottage doesn't show where it is located, down a narrow lane with only the view of the side of jewsons. It was quite noisy in the mornings due to people walking by and from the pub next door. If this cottage was located in a better area, we would give it a 9!. So sad it's where it is, but could see if as a plus as very near centre of Bowness.
Terrible property, absolutely nothing like the listing. In fact very deceiving. Small and pokey. Horrendous
We had a lovely 3 nights. Thanks very much
Sheila
Fantastic cottage, quirky and modern, decoration and fixtures and fittings of high standard as was the bed linen and towels. Terrace area a real suntrap and very private. Only the 2 of us and our little dog so didn't use the downstairs bedroom and dressing room. No signs of any unpleasant smells as mentioned in a previous review. Very well looked after, even outside areas swept and clean. Position of cottage is perfect, right in the heart of Bowness, about 100mts from lake and numerous eateries and takeaways on doorstep yet tucked away and quiet. We had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend.
This cottage was well presented, however misleading with the front photograph. On entering the property there was an overpowering smell which seemed like cat pee that permeated through the property. It was like this throughout the visit. It did spoil our stay. We did mention it to the office twice. Also lack of instructions for heating, appliances and music system.
Weve been coming to workshop cottage for nearly 7 years at the same time every year and loved it but when quoted over a 1000 plus when trying to book for next year and then being told if we come a day later 5th January 2024 for 4 days it will be 650 we made the decision not to rebook because as lovely as it is it isnt worth that price for where it is placed noise of the bins which was worse this year and no onsite parking I have no objection to parking on the road with a permit but for that price I would accept on site parking . Also have you turned the temperature of the water down ? It never really got hot for a bath or shower like in previous years . Would have been willing to return for 500 for 4days at that time of year . We did take the opportunity to look at other providers and cottages in the area and for 600 we can get 3 bedrooms on site parking 4 days stay we viewed these cottages as well so know what we would be getting
Sugandha
One of the nicest and best kept cottages I've ever stayed in. A comfortable and very relaxing place. It undersells itself a little it is opposite a very good cinema and a good bus stop with a regular service that will take you down the hill to the lake and to Windermere town, Ambleside, and to Grasmere. You can pay by card and get an all day rider so you can use the bus as much as you like. This should be in the description as it is a major selling point!
Jacqueline
2nd stay in this lovely cottage. Central, cosy and comfortable and looking forward to staying again.
Claire
Had a lovely stay at Workshop Cottage. Accommodation was as described and very well presented. The owners have made very good use of the space and furnished to a high standard. Cottage very clean also. The cottage is in a central location so no need to use the car if you dont want to. The lack of parking may be an issue for some but was not an issue for us as we were able to offload at the door and got a space on street most of the time. Overall would definitely stay again.
Loved the balcony, a real sun trap and privacy made up for lack of view. Great location very close to centre of Bowness. Apartment had everything you need to create a home from home. All furniture and equipment provided to a high specification. Only minor annoyance was residents of surrounding properties putting their rubbish in the bin for the property, not sure how to prevent that
Beautiful cottage , very clean with excellent facilities. Bowness is lovely and shops ,restaurants and pubs within walking distance so good location. As mentioned by others very hot in upstairs bedroom. Parking bit hit and miss even with permit. Bin situation a bit confusing as not clear what goes in bin liner as mixed waste and recycling. Didnt find cottage straight away as had to park car and locate by walking. Tip for others renting this cottage is take first right before Jewsons . Enjoyed our break immensely even though rained most days .
Patrick
Fantastic property, ideal as a base for one or two couples. All facilities were excellent and cleanliness was highly evident. Can't recommend enough
Stephanie
