Waterhead Cottage Reviews

Barbara
Lovely property in perfect setting. Initial problem with cooker sorted quickly by owner. Although we thoroughly enjoyed our break I felt the cottage was let down by niggly cleaning problems, dirty pans and crockery, thick dust on chandelier and detritus under settee cushions and oven could do with a clean. Great comfortable bed and cottage was lovely and warm .
This is a fantastic well appointed property set in beautiful grounds with easy access to it's own private jetty.
Andrew
Beautiful location and super cottage had a lovely week. Would highly recommend a stay, lovely hosts thank you.
Robert
Super, friendly hosts, could not do enough. Really enjoyed our break in Waterhead.
Fabulous and friendly Hosts. Approachable and ensured our holiday ran smoothly. Superb cottage which was supplied with everything we may need. Great location which had many popular places to visit. The grounds were spectacular and provided a relaxing setting.
Gillian
Excellent cottage in a beautiful setting with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Our 3rd stay and will definitely be coming back.
Pauline
We had a lovely week in a stunning location. Would def consider coming back. Ideal position between Bowness and Ambleside also great for visiting Brockhole right next door.
Our stay was absolutely brilliant, the cottage has all the facilities you need to make your own dinners as we don't eat out much. The 3 minute walk down to the lakeside to watch the boats etc go by was fab could sit there all day as was so relaxing. Nicole and John are great hosts very easy to talk too. We will definitely be back. Thanks for a great stay x
Amanda
We enjoyed our week's stay at Waterhead Cottage, great location, comfortable and well equipped. Loved sitting by the lake. Welcoming and friendly owners. Great base for exploring the area by bus and boat. We would return. Thank you.
A lovely little well equipped cottage for two, in beautiful surroundings with access to the lake also. We really enjoyed our stay here, the weather was not great but that is no fault of the cottage! We would definitely return.
Georgina
We complained to Sykes through the ap early in the week regarding the bbq and cleanliness and it looks like the comments were not passed on to the owners for 3 days the day before we left. This did not give enough time for things to be put right!
Gillian
Waterhead cottage was just perfect. The accommodation is excellent with everything you could possibly need. High quality furnishings and super king size bed. Situated in a quiet area with easy access to a private lakeside. We have already booked for next year. Thank you for a relaxing stay x
Michael
A really good location for a trip to the Lakes. Access to the Lake and handy for the bus stop where you can hop on a bus and visit Ambleside, Windermere, Kendal, Langdale and Keswick. Would highly recommend.
Disappointed that the cottage was so very close to a busy main road as listing mentions 5 acres of shared grounds. Couldnt find lids for 3 of 4 saucepans. Paper filter for extractor above hob hasnt been replaced for ever. Velux window in bedroom leaks, needs maintenance or replacement. Bedside light bulbs inadequate, more like nightlights! Extractor fan in en suite very noisy. We enjoyed our holiday however, weather was largely kind. Owner not home, as far as we could see, in Larch Cottage. Living area warm and comfortable, plenty of hot water.
Christopher
A couple of small problems. Kitchen lights were flickering and saucepans need replacing due to not been insulated.
I would like to thank the owners for all there kindness. the accommodation is everything and more. it is situated in a beautiful location and sitting alongside Lake Windermere was heaven. We look forward to returning to Waterhead Cottage in the near future.
We have just had a lovely holiday in Waterhead cottage. With a very warm and friendly welcome from the hosts, Nicole and John. It is a lovely cottage in a peaceful & tranquil setting. The perfect location for visiting all of windermere and the peak district. It is so beautiful that we are looking into booking it for our next year's holiday. We would definitely recommend Waterhead cottage.
Really enjoyed our holiday. Cottage and facilities were spot on. Jetty was used by my husband for fishing. Only downside was that the plug in the bath did not work. This was reported on the Monday. A new one was supplied late pm on the Wednesday. However once hot water was put in the bath, plug came out. Had to cut holiday short as due to health reasons have to be able to have a bath. However saying this, everything else was spot on.
We thoroughly enjoyed the cottage and down at the lakeside. We would love to return except my wife has a problem with climbing the stairs and there is not a handrail at the top of the stairs where it turns nor at the bottom of the stairs. The man staying next door had the same problem and struggled through the week going home early on Friday. Perhaps the owners could put in handrails where needed. Otherwise a great holiday .
The hosts were very welcoming and informative about the area and the property was superb. This was the first time we had visited the lakes and it certainly won't be the last, should we decide to come again we would definitely look to book this property again. Thank you for an excellent stay. Chris and Jane Holland
Stella
Beautiful property providing everything you need like a home from home. Location was central to travel to many places and also a bus stop 5mins walk if needed. Would love to stay in Summer and gain full use of BBQ and Lakeside. Will definately stay here again.
A lovely cottage in a beautiful location. My wife and I normally come to the Lakes to walk but this was not possible as I am recovering from illness. We were looking for a quiet, comfortable cottage that would look after us gor a week. Waterhead Cottage did exactly that. The added bonus of the beautiful location an the opportunity to sit by the lakeshore at the private jetty was wonderful.
The cottage is in a gorgeous position, comfy, warm and everything you would need is there. Position between Ambleside and Windemere is great especially as on the bus route. Price very reasonable. We had a fab honeymoon despite me having the flu! Only issue being the cleanliness as cobwebs everywhere, drainer had food caked on it, freezer had frozen food stuck in the icebox possibly difficult to defrost after ever visitor. Worst being settee as when looking for a lost ear ring, moved settee cushions and there was the crumbs and detritus from goodness knows how many biscuits and crisps etc. Didn't impact our visit though as great little house
Edward
Cottage was well furnished and comfortable. It is in a lovely location with easy access to the all the areas of the beautiful Lakes.
We had a lovely stay in this extremely comfortable cottage. The facilities are excellent as is the location. The only slight downside is the traffic noise from the busy main road however you do get used to it. To finish on a positive the hosts John and Nicole are superb and would I recommend it? absolutely!
First class property in a great location, handy for Ambleside and Windermere and other local attractions and restaurants with a very helpful and welcoming host, lovely gardens and access via there jetty to Lake Windermere. Would strongly recommend it.
Valerie
Beautiful modern accommodation in lovely setting. Everything catered for. Lovely place with a little private mooring area right on the lake to sit out and relax and enjoy the beautiful view on a nice day. Also nice patio seating area with bbq at the house although it was Winter so we didnt use it. The property is just off the main road out of Windermere into Ambleside and a nice walking area. Would book again. Our only comment would be that we felt the 9 am time having to vacate is a little early, especially when checkin is not before 3 pm and 10 am would have been more appreciated. Otherwise a lovely stay and would recommend,
Kenneth
Excellent property and location. Smartly and simply furnished and well equipped. One area that does need attending is the bathroom grouting which needs scrubbing and some place re grouting, otherwise no complaints.
Catherine
Listing didn't mention washing machine in the property. Great that there is a vacuum cleaner, but it needs its filter cleaning. Also no toilet brush available. We had to ask for bath towels, which were promptly brought, but there were no bin liners for the kitchen, so we had to provide our own. The cottage is well equipped, but knives could be sharper. Although there is the facility to dock an iPod, nothing is available for those who use android. It would be good if the listing could mention what type of coffee pods will fit the machine. Overall we had a fabulous stay over Christmas and would thoroughly recommend. Just mentioning these things for improvement for future visitors.
A fabulous cottage and perfect location between Ambleside and Bowness on Windermere. The only reason I have not given 5 stars is because of the traffic noise which you get used to eventually.
Pamela
WiFi connection not very good and if you watch the television very poor choices
Hand sanitizer was empty. Long black hairs everywhere. Inadequate door locklatch to property. Loose window latch in bedroom. Broken toilet seat. Mouldy groutsealant in bathroom. Loose shower head. Unhygienic toilet brush Faeces remains from previous guests!. Supplied pots, pans cutlery werent completely clean sticky frying pan, lipstick on drinks glasses etc. Furniture in lounge could be cleaned more regularly after recent covid problems as the arms on settees are showing signs of grease. On a whole, the cleaner or cleanliness at this property is clearly not being monitored prior to the arrival of guests who have spent a large amount of money for several days away celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary My wife and Me!
Myself, my partner and our young son booked Waterhead Cottage for last April, but moved it to this April due to the Pandemic. The cottage was easy to find and in a perfect location between Ambleside and Windemere, both a short drivebike ride away. The cottage itself has everything that you need, but the real highlight for us was the beautiful gardens and the private lake access. Unfortunately our son will be too old to book again next time we visit the Lakes, but if its just me & my partner we would definitely go back I cant recommend it enough.
Best holiday ever and great little house in the perfect area of Windermere.
Excellent location fantastic lakeside facilities and lovely clean cottage

The cottage is very comfortable and has everything you need for a relaxing break. The owners are very welcoming and friendly and make you really feel at home. The grounds are very attractive, the icing on the cake being the lakeside seating area and private jetty. We were blessed with fantastic weather too which was an absolute bonus.
One of the best cottages we have visited. Very comfortable and cosy.
Apart from a beautiful cottage and surroundings we were disappointed that we could not sit by the lake as advertised, all chairs and table etc. were removed, although it was October we had several sunny days that could have been enjoyed by the lakeside
