Wansfell Retreat Lodge Reviews

We had a lovely stay at Wansfell Retreat and will definitely be back. The views are outstanding, the lodge feels very homely and the park and the pub were great also! The only down points for us were that the bedding in the main bedroom looks like it's seen its best days as do the towels, everything else we couldn't fault and were sad to leave. Another little point to mention.. the balustrade to the front left by the table and chairs is loose also which is quite dangerous if someone leans on it, not sure if anyone has noticed this.

We have always loved this lodge we've returned 3 times now. Lovely open plan living space with a newly fitted kitchen. Really good washerdryer and spacious bedroom and bathrooms. Lovely elevated location and view of the hills. There were a few things I just wanted to point out for general upkeep.....bed 1 the right hand side of the bed feels like the mattress is dipping on the far side nearest to the window so you feel like you are falling out of the bed. Bed 2 the TV does not work we tried and could not get this to turn on. Kitchen there are no full sets of glasses just 2 or 3 of each type of glass there was no full set of wine glasses for the christmas dinner table! Outside the steps to the cabin has no light and is very very dark so could do with having a bright light installed to see where the steps are. Bath towells these have been the same for some years now, bit small and not big enough to wrap around an adult. Many thanks Louise
Had a great stay at Wansfell lodge. Great location, fabulous views and lodge had everything we needed and was beautiful presented
Our stay at Wansfell Retreat was most enjoyable. The Lodge has excellent facilities and is well maintained and clean. The position and outlook are stunning. We have already booked another visit in the Spring.! The holiday company are very helpful and pleasant to deal with.
We actually had the same lodge Waddell 4 that we had the previous year. This meant that we knew that the quality of our stay was going to be first class. Everything we needed was there. The accommodation suited the five of us and the fact that there were 2 bathrooms ensured our comfort. There was so much to do in the surrounding area. We did quad biking at Rookin farm as well as archery, axe throwing and zip lining at Brock hole. We spent time in Grassmere and Windermere as well as Ambleside everything close by. We used the pub on site for meals and entertainment which we thoroughly enjoyed. The only slight priblem we had was with the drainage the kitchen sink taking a long time to empty and the shower tray filling up when in use. This could have been due to the vast amount of rain we encountered at times which might have affected the drainage. All in all, we had a great time and much of this was down to the top quality of the accommodation and the superb Sykes organisation. Thank you
This was our first time staying at Wansfell Retreat and in general we found this to be is a very good, clean lodge in an excellent location on Limefitt Park. We've stayed at five separate lodges on Limefitt over the years and are therefore very familiar with the park and its facilities. The lodge itself is, modern, light and in the most part well maintained. There are a couple of areas that could be improved the gate was partly hanging off its hinges and the UPVC door step was cracked but nothing major. One thing I would point out is that the 3rd bedroom is smaller than we've come to expect in a lodge this size. Its absolutely fine for small children but is a bit of a squeeze for adults. Likewise with the living room area, this is great for two adults and up to four children but at one point in our holiday we had four adults and two children staying in the lodge and it was a bit on the small size. Not a showstopper by any means but something to be aware of for larger parties. The kitchen is modern and well equipped but is a little bit limited on storage space if you're bringing lots of food with you. The sink is very slow to drain, however this was also the case with the showers so may be a general issue with the site rather than the lodge itself. The decking area is superb with plenty of comfy seating and fantastic views out over Wansfell. Limefitt Park is immaculate and in a wonderful location with superb walks available direct from the site. Its a great base for exploring all the Lakes has to offer. One negative that it is worth noting is that paddling and swimming in the river is no longer allowed. I wasn't able to find out why this is the case but is a real shame as my children have always loved doing this. All in all, I would definitely recommend Wansfell Retreat and Limefitt Park but just bear in mind it may be a bit on the small side for larger parties.
I have already made a complaint about the awful state of poor repair that this property has been allowed to get into. would like a phone call from manager to discuss this further as I do not believe you have taken this complaint seriously and have no interest in resolving my dissatisfaction. For the money that this holiday cost I was absolutely disgusted that you could feel it acceptable to let this lodge in this condition. Dangerous broken glass not cleared up, sharp edges on the door frame. Multiple drainage and plumbing issues, 1 TV not working. Generally a tatty looking and unloved lodge. Also advertised with WiFi at the property, but relying on the unfit for purpose public WiFi at the site, which your company has no control over and did not work. All in all, a total joke of a company, feels like everything is run on a wing and a prayer. Also took an hour to get hold of you to try to discuss anything. Best avoided.
Great property and great location. . only downside was on arrival when the lodge number was incorrect so spent a few minutes trying to get into the wrong lodge.. worked it out in the end..
Charles
Great views of the hills. The lodge accommodated 5 of us easily providing for everything needed. Its a fab lodge. Love to return end of July if possible.
Absolutely fabulous wood recommend anybody
Another lovely stay. The Lodge is definitely the best weve stayed in, with fabulous views, privacy and convenience for a really relaxing break. Weve stayed here before and would definitely stay again and would highly recommend Wansfell Retreat to any new visitors to the Limefitt Park site. The only improvement we could think of to assist with dogs and the elderly or the disabled would be to stretch each step out to make them more user friendly, as on some other lodges on the site. We take a ramp for our dog to use, but not ideal in rainy weather. This is by no means a criticism just hopefully a helpful suggestion. Looking forward to a return visit, because Wansfell Lodge is truly a relaxing Retreat on a beautiful Park.
Graham
Thoroughly enjoyed the lodge clean and comfortable.
Everything about our short stay superseded our expectation. The site was quiet, clean and the facilities were just what we wanted. The pub on site was friendly with a pleasant atmosphere and the food choice was extensive and tasty. The lodge was roomy and had everything we wanted. It was extremely clean and well maintained. The site situation gave us easy access to Windermere, Ambleside, Grasmere and Keswick as well as Brockhole which was great for our grandchildren. We will definitely be returning to this Sykes cottages site.
Michelle
Lovely lodge. Lodge was well equipped had pretty much everything we needed. Location was lovely. Great for relaxing or walking. Park is hilly so if you have mobility requirements check before booking. We had a wheelchair, paths were ok but there are hills to the shop and the pub.
Charles
We stayed in your lodge last year we had a good time but for one thing the wire ... We stayed in your lodge last year we had a good time but for one thing the wire net on the stairs and veranda my little dog hurt her paw limped for a couple of days I thought something would have been done after l complained, so we booked again this year only to find it was still the same my sister had her dog with her its a bassist and he split his nail on his front paw once again we were confined to the lodge because his paw was very sore we like coming to your lodge surely something else could be used not wire netting thanks
Fantastic Lodge ! Has everything you need for a wonderful stay ! Very clean , spacious and views to die for ! Everything from the furniture to the cutlery is immaculate. A wonderful property
Great lodge, this is the 2nd time we have stayed here and will definately be back. Dexter 5 year old Chow Chow love the decking and view.
Michelle
Brilliant lodge, had everything we needed for a family of 6. 3rd time we have stayed at this property, comfort, amenities and views are fantastic, thank you!!
We had an enjoyable 5 nights over new year
Several lights not working and remote controls had no batteries. No internet coverage and park was very empty so imagined it be better. Also on site restaurant closed which was a huge disappointment
The location of the lodge is beautiful and if it was mine I would never be away from it. We had a wonderful time and the weather was good. The lodge was well equipped iron, ironing board and hair dryer as well as everything that you would need in the kitchen. Would definitely come back and would definitely recommend.
Another wonderful stay at Limefitt.
Jennifer
The location is beautiful and the cottage is comfortable. We definitely enjoyed our stay. The only complaint we have is that the dishes in the cupboard were put away wet and in some cases, dirty.
Elizabeth
Felt like somebodies home not like a holiday
Beautiful lodge with everything we needed, gorgeous views and plenty of room. Perfect place to stay.
Claire
We have previously stayed at this lodge and loved it so decided to return this year. Unfortunately we were left disappointed at the cleanliness of the lodge. On arrival there was a ramekin of cigarette ends left on the table on the decking from the previous guests and pieces of glass on the kitchen floor. We had a toddler and a dog with us so luckily we found this before one of them stood on it. The general cleanliness of the lodge was very poor. Given there is a 6 hour turn around and guests are asked to strip their own beds, it does not seem reasonable that floors are not cleaned properly and the lodge isnt dusted. Our little boy lost one of his toys under the sofa and when I went to get it I was disgusted at the dog hair, dust and other items under the sofa. It wouldnt take much to move the sofas and vacuum underneath them in between stays. The oven is also desperate for a clean. The lodge is starting to look a bit tired and needs some maintenance. The dishwasher runner was broken, one of the lampshades in the bedroom was smashed, the blinds in one bedroom were broken, the door handle in one of the bedrooms is broken, the tap in the main bathroom is broken and lots of other little bits that need some attention. It is such a shame that the lodge had been left to get in this state, it is a beautiful location on the site, with gorgeous views from the decking. I can not fault the park in general, and the staff in the Haybarn inn are brilliant, very friendly. One in particular took the time to ask how to sign back to my non verbal son, and remembered this the next time we went in which was lovely.
Abigail
We really really enjoyed our stay and overall the lodge and the views were amazing. The only points to make are the tap in the main bathroom was very loose, the door handle in the little bedroom also kept falling off when touched. Thank you very much for having us.
We had such an amazing time and would defiantly come back. Lodge was lovely but more cleanliness require.
Philip
This is a lovely property with fabulous views. The property has everything you need very comfortable and it has an excellent enclosed terrace. If this was mine i wouldnt leave it! The park is well kept and in a good location. The shop only sells the basics so go prepared. The on site pub is a bonus. Overall a great long weekend oh now back to reality and work!
Fantastic lodge. Lovely and clean. Amazing views. Handy to all areas. Nice to have the small things included like bin bags, dishwasher tablets etc. Nice decor. Plenty of pots, pans etc. Would definitely recommend.
Sandra
Had a fabulous week at Wansfell Retreat. What a perfect location, amazing views and lodge is in a great position. Very clean and had everything we needed. Will definitely return.
The lodge is spacious and has great views. It is generally well equipped. The location is excellent, being so close to Windermere and Ambleside. The main issue was the almost complete lack of WiFi and phone service, which we were not advised about in advance. We have stayed at various lodges at Limefitt over the years and are aware that the WiFi can be patchy, but it has never been this bad before. The owners need to upgrade the WiFi facilities or at least make clear to guests that there is no serviceable WiFi available.
Lyndsey
This was the second time we stayed here as we loved it so much the first time. There is nothing we could say bad about this lodge. It is comfortable and clean and the views are lovely. Very private and all facilities you could need. We will be back again.
Was a beautiful cabin but it hadn't been cleaned very well for my arrival, found long hairs in the spare bedroom where my son was sleeping and also a used cotton bud on the floor, cobwebs around all the lightings and corner of some windows. On Sunday the water was turned off all day so we had no running water to wash ourselves after a day out at the lake in the heat, no water to even flush the facilities or wash pots, we had the leave a day early as it isn't ideal with having a kid and having no running water so couldn't even cook food as no possible way to even wash up, spoke to the receptionist and got offered no compensation or compassion other than we cant help it was disgusting, so had to enjoy a lovely 4 hour drive back smelling cause of no running water
Fantastic lodge,spotless clean stunning views
Very good lodge with modern facilities. Overall a good stay in nice surroundings with great views from the outside decking.
Anthony
We have stayed at Wansfell Retreat before, and like last time, everything was perfect. Its beautifully clean, comfortable, is very well equipped, has stunning views and very nice outdoor furniture. We have no complaints at all about the lodge. The only annoying thing is that WiFi is advertised as being available at Limefitt. it isnt. You just cant get on it. We had to use our phone data to do anything. But this means you can run up quite high bills. Other than that, we loved every second of our stay at Wansfell.
Lovely lodge and limefitt park is great as always
The guttering on the kitchen side of the lodge near the twin bedroom has come apart. The last night when it was raining, it did keep one person awake, with the stream of water hitting the ground.
Valerie
Perfect. We were lucky with the weather & able to enjoy the sun around the clock with the wrap around verandah. Beautiful views & so peaceful
