Pennys Cottage Reviews

Loved every second of our stay at Penny's Cottage. My only complaint is that we didn't stay longer. The accommodation was found clean, warm and felt immediately homely. Nice little welcome gift also. The location is perfect for heading straight out on walks or to the pubs. Troutbeck is beautiful, even in lashing rain. We'll absolutely be back and probably stay here.

Our fourth visit to Penny's Cottage. We had a great week the cottage is comfortable and cosy and after a day out in the lakes lovely to sit around the wood burner. Ideally situated with stunning ever changing views. Ideal for walking the dog straight from the cottage. Turn right and there's a pub turn left and there's a lovely tearoom.
It exceeded our highest expectations. The property is very well equipped with quality appliances, along with beautifully finished rooms, managing to retain character with modern touches. It's convenient for touring the lake district, enough off the beaten track, with walks from the property. We can quite safely say this is the best property we have ever stayed at and will not dissapoint.
A lovely little cottage with a fabulous view from both inside the cottage and from the balcony. Supercomfortable beds, lovely and warm, and nice pottery in the kitchen. A dryer would be a valuable addition, as there is a washing machine and only a clothes horse for drying, which means wet clothes hanging about.

Third visit, love the area and the local pubs, villages, most of all its the view from the balcony that is stunning, we were so lucky to have sunshine to enjoy it at its best. Well equipped and comfortable cottage, tastefully decorated. For a couple and dog it is ideally sized. My only negative would be it could be cleaner, the main areas of use are clean, but shelves, tables etc could do with a thorough clean. We had a small maintenance issue and Lakelovers were excellent attended same day.
Elaine
Penny's Cottage is just idyllic. The views are stunning and the balcony was a real boon. It is so well placed for stunning walks from the door and there are two pubs and a coffee shop which are just a few minutes walk away. Highly recommended.
Very comfortable well equipped cottage. Had a problem with the tv and it took a while to get it looked at only to be informed that the tv has no signal so has to be operated through the internet which wasnt explained in the instructions
Edward
A wonderful place with great views very nicely appointed with everything you could need for a self catering cottage
Valerie
Lets start with the positives, and there are many. Penny Cottage is beautifully located with a stunning view looking out over a fells from the balcony window. You arrive to a pack of rather tasty shortbread and coffee pods for the machine. A nice touch. The cottage is clean and well cared for. Nothing is old, or tired about any of its fixtures or fittings. The kitchen is modern and well appointed, the lounge comfortable and the bedrooms well appointed. The provided internet good enough to stream TV on. One bed is firm and the other soft, so all back types are well catered for. The bathroom modern and there is a dedicated parking space a minutes walk away. Bedding is clean, towels fluffy and plentiful. The washing machine is new and full of electronic bleeps and chirpy sounds. But vocal traits aside, its a great machine. The reported mould problems in previous reviews has been resolved. It is a lovely cottage. However...... The cottage is marketed as offering accommodation for four persons. You would need to be four tolerant, slim and close friends. The table offers seating for four, but they would need to be friends of Snow White. Within 5 minutes of our arrival my Spaniel had escaped over a storage box stored near the wall, through some wonky wire strands and was out from this dogs welcome property. Fortunately we got him back, but he was no longer allowed unattended in the garden. The glass shelf around the base of the cooker extraction fan is at eye level height and three times in the first day I bashed my head into it. A strategically placed tin on the offending corner resolved that issue. There is a 2inch step up into the kitchen which is a trip hazard as its not delineated. Flies .... every room comes with at least one residential fly. You chase them out and a fresh one washes ashore. The bathroom, which is an internal room with no exterior walls or windows has two of the irritating pests, who boast residential permits. You chase the little buers out and five minutes later, voil, a fresh pair. We found small black specks on the floor, which once cleaned up, reappeared. In hindsight we now believe they were probably Fly droppings, often called fly spots or fly specks, are tiny, dark black or brown spots left behind by flies. They are a common sign of fly activity and can be found on surfaces where flies frequently land, such as walls, ceilings, windows, and light fixtures. These spots are essentially fly faeces, and the presence of them can indicate a potential fly problem. Finally, check all plates and crockery as your reliant on previous renters being good at washing up or using the dishwasher. At the change over the cleaners dont run the items through the machine. Luckily, I always lick my cutlery clean, he jokes. All that said, would we stay at the cottage again? Definitely yes, but next time wed bring a can of fly spray.

One of the best cottages we've stayed in, would go back next time we're in the area
We have stayed at Pennys Cottage 4 times now and love the cottage, the position many walks straight from the door, and the views. We hope to return. We feel that since Lake Lovers have been taken over by Sykes the company is now impossible to speak to on the phone which needs sorting.

A beautiful cottage. The location was nice and quiet and the local pubs were amazing. The cottage had such a stunning view and inside the cottage had everything you could need! Our dog unfortunately got a bit too mouthy on one of the dog toys provided, so we replaced it with a new bunny toy for future dogs to enjoy! Amazing holiday home and would love to stay again
Delighted to find cottage just as advertised. Excellent facilities, beautiful high quality fixtures and fittings. Really comfortable with stunning view. NOTICE FOR CLEANERS. No need to publish! On leaving I asked the cleaner to leave the 1 ash in log burner but he said people like it to be cleared. As it was when we arrived The logs burn better on a bed of ash so the cleaners may need to be instructed.

Love the cottage. This was our second stay here. Layout & location are superb. It is well kitted out with everything we needed. The main oven causes the electric to trip. We had to stop using it. Also, its worth mentioning that the smoke alarm goes off if bathroom door is left open & steam from shower gets out.. scared us to death!
We absolutely loved the location of the property. The cottage was well thought out and the owners have done an amazing job renovating it. It had everything we could need for a perfect holiday. In fact, we both said we would love to live in something like this georgous cottage. We booked for Christmas week and found the property to be very warm and cosy with just the radiators on however, the log burner provides that extra bit of warmth after a long day hiking, and the view were just breathtaking. One of the best properties we've stayed in. Unfortunately, the listing does not do this place justice. Firstly, bedding, towels, toilet roll, washing up liquid, tea towels, dish cloths, oven gloves, dishwasher tablets, cleaning spray, and kitchen towel were all provided. There is also a hair dryer. Please note that washing machine detergent is not provided. All these things are kindly provided by the owner and would save a lot of space in the car. We tried to contact Sykes prior to leaving and got no reply, so thought it would be useful to note them here for other guests, ideally, the listing would be updated to show these items. There was the smallest amount of mould present in the downstairs bedroom, nothing really worth worrying about and the owners have provided a dehumidifier to help resolve the issue. Unfortunately, we did experience a localised powercut on Xmas eve from 9.30am through to 4pm which meant we couldn't use any facilities and we had no heating as all of the radiators are electric in the property. We called Sykes to confirm the procedureprocess just in case it didn't get fixed in time for Christmas day. They weren't very reassuring and offered no advice except to look at a link which advised people of the issue. I've worked for holiday lets previously and thought that they didn't provide great customer service in this circumstance. From previous experience, I would have thought the offer of an emergency heating source would have been suggested especially when all the heating is electric and no logs are provided or perhaps an offer of a gesture of goodwill like eating out vouchers, discounts on their next stay etc. We ended up staying out for the whole day and it was luckily fixed by 4.30pm. We stocked up on logs just incase. We understand these things happen and its not the fault of anyone however, it is times like these when customer service is noticeable. I guess it highlighted to us just how corporate Skyes are. Overall, we loved our stay at Penny's Cottage and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to everyone. The owners have thought of everything and we honestly would return again in a heart beat.
Caroline
This was our 4th stay at Penny's cottage and it delivered as usual. The location is sublime, cleanliness was excellent, the location was as perfect as ever and we have nothing negative to say about the cottage. If we could live here we would. We hope to be back again soon. Caroline & Michael Wakeford
We had a fabulous stay at this stunning cottage. The view from the living room is gorgeous, very peaceful. We loved the cottage, wish we could have stayed longer, a beautiful location with lots of places to visit. Thank you.
We absolutely loved everything about Pennys cottage. The views, the luxurious beds and bedding, everything worked properly and was top standard. Troutbeck is a very tranquil village which is lovely after a busy day exploring in busier areas. We cant recommend it enough. Hopefully well return one day. Thank you Penny and Graham.
Really pleased with the cottage. Excellent views And a coffee shop in the village. Unfortunately for us rained most of week. Don't know if we would come back, nothing to do with cottage but 7 hours on the m5. Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful cottage.
This is a beautiful and very comfortable cottage the interior is lovey the ... This is a beautiful and very comfortable cottage the interior is lovey the cottage is situated in a beautiful part of Troutbeck, the reason we only give 4 stars because the gardens are very overgrown so when it rained you got wet from the overgrown plants as they covered both front and back entrances having said that we would definitely stay there again
Leanda
Second visit to Pennys, we love the location and the views, the local pubs, both good and worth a visit, the security of the garden, its perfect for couples with dogs. Weve already booked again for next year. Cleanliness could be improved, a deep clean of areas that they dont get time for in a change over is probably due.
Robert
A beautiful location, peaceful, tranquil, excellent to return after some nice local walking, thank you.
We loved the location of this lovely cottage and the views are simple amazing. Great walks from the door and two lovely pubs, The Queens Head and The Mortal Man within easy walking distance. However, we were disappointed with a few things. No logs or kindling on arrival as commented on before so we left what we had left for the next guests. Mouldy towel. Dirty blankets. Cobwebs abundant, Dirty Floors. The gardens need tidying. This cottage was not for us. Unusual for Lakelovers.
Third visit and the cottage is ideal for us and our dog Pepper. Fabulous views.
Matthew
Overall a lovely cosy property with an excellent location and very well equipped kitchen. Cleanliness was generally very good although the sofa blankets where full of dog hairs which my wife discovered after putting one around her and getting covered in them. There was also inadequate fire wood for the log burner and I had to go and purchase some myself. A property with a burner at this time of year should have a well stocked supply of wood and kindling for guests. The cottage was lovely and had a very welcoming and cosy feel. Unfortunately when we arrived there was no water however this was not the fault of anyone to do with the property and united utilities has it back on by the time we got back from the pub. We were very pleased with the response of the agency and the owners when we informed them of the problem and they did all they could to help.
Penny's Cottage is a lovely cosy cottage, with beautiful views. It is really well equipped, and we made full use of the woodburner and nespresso machine! This was our second stay, and we would most definitely stay again.
We had a lovely stay. The cottage is comfortable and has breathtaking views. Highly recommended, however we did think it would be a bit of a squash for 4 people if the weather was poor. The only things that would have enhanced our stay would have been some logs on arrival previous guests have mentioned this and a back door key so that dogs could be taken directly to the utility room. Perhaps there was one but it wasn't obvious to us!
Georgina
Lovely, comfortable cottage with good facilities. However , two small things Was surprised to find Christmas decorations still up in the middle of January. Remotes in both Dab radio and television needed batteries replacing. Really enjoyed our stay despite being snowed in and unable to get the car out of the village for two days.
This is a really cozy cottage with everything you need. Sitting on the sofa watching the sunrise with a coffee was one of my favourite parts of the day.
Lesley
This property is exceptional. It was the cleanest property we have ever stayed in and had everything you need for your stay. Its warm and cosy, the radiators are easy to use and provide adequate heat, the log fire works brilliantly. All the kitchen appliances are top quality. The bedding and towels were top quality, beds and mattresses clean and very comfortable. The views spectacular from the terrace. A well looked after property that you can tell is loved by the owners. Lots of great walks accessible straight from the property and amenities nearby at Ambleside. Will definitely be back.
Stephanie
We truly enjoyed staying in Pennys Cottage and exploring the Troutbeck area. We thought the cottage was perfect for us as a couple with our dog. The cottage was clean and has an efficient use of space. Streaming was no problem and we had 4G service alongside functional WiFi. We would have appreciated a few emergency amenities for power outages, such as a torch and maybe a few LEDbattery operated candles, since the power was out for 10 hours due to storm Pia. Thankfully we had brought our own fire supplies as none were provided. The old post office Cafe was a lovely place to have breakfast and coffee, while the mortal man is a super cozy traditional pub with amazing food. There are great walks to do right out the door. All in all we had a wonderful stay and would love to return!
