Ellerthwaite House Reviews

Beautiful property in a lovely position within Windermere yet only 20min walk from Bowness. Plenty of pubs and caferestaurants nearby. Car parking and an enclosed patio for our dogs . Thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish even with the down pours . Be back in the New Year .
A lovely house with everything in it that was needed, plenty of room for 6 adults and a great location, would have been a nice touch to have a few logs for the log burner to get us going for our first evening.
Gillian
Our stay in Ellerthwaite house was an enjoyable one however as my husband and I are in our eighties we found the seating in both the snug and the lounge unsuitable for our age which spoilt our stay . After I had booked the holiday last year I had seen that in other reviews given to the owners people had complained about the seating for the elderly and they were in their sixties!!!, Our daughter lives in Kendal and we live in Devon and we try to visit twice a year and rent a house large enough for us to stay but sadly due to the unsuitable seating for the older generation we would not use Ellerthwaite house again .

Excellent comfy cottage. Very conveniently located with ample parking. A real luxury to have all rooms en suite, plus loads of space to eat and relax. A few small maintenance issues top radiator needs to be bled as full of air in top bathroom smart TV functionality lost on TV in the snug couldnt get it to see the WiFi dishwasher needs rinse aid salt adding various bulbs failed overhead lights in kitchen all need correct LEDs fitting otherwise they flicker
Elizabeth
The property was renovated in 2018, to a high standard. It is a traditional Victorian style house, large enough to comfortably accommodate six guests. Because of the high quality of some of the art deco style light shades the rooms are very dark. The driveway of the house is quite narrow for medium sized vehicles. Road parking is at a premium due to the popularity of the area. The location is ideal for walking around the village of Windermere. The kitchen is so well equipped, could be used for professional catering purposes. Would be happy to book the property again!
Christopher
Ellerthwaite House was everything we had hoped for and more! Very close to the centre of Windermere so just a short stroll to the many restaurants and shops. The house was immaculately clean on arrival. All of the three double bedrooms had a comfortable bed and ensuite bathroom. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything you would require for home cooking if required. Overall a great choice for our family break in the lakes and we would definitely stay here on our next visit to the area.
Dianne
Overall we were happy with the accommodation. Location excellent close to shops restaurants bars and cafes. Well served by local buses and within walking distance to BownessonWindermere for ferry services. Kitchen was very well equipped with everything needed for a selfcatering holiday.
This is a spacious house, with plenty of room for up to 6 guests. The kitchen was excellent with all the equipment we needed, a large fridgefreezer, a 7 hob cooker, lots of side surfaces and an island. There were 2 fullsized dishwashers, one in the kitchen and one in the butlers pantry next door. All of the 3 bedrooms had ensuite bathrooms. The snug television is huge! The bed we used was very comfortable and we slept well. Windermere is a surprisingly busy town for through traffic, but Ellerthwaite Rd was reasonably quiet and we didnt notice any excessive road noise. Cars park outside, but the houses own parking area coped with our car, snuggly, and could have accommodated another behind it. Its convenient for a short walk to the town centre, and for buses, and even the railway station on top of quite a steep hill. Sainsburys and Coop in the town centre, and Booths next to the station. It would be fair to warn anyone no longer young or fit were in our 60s that all the sofas were lowlying, and while comfortable to sit in, they were sometimes a struggle to get out of for anyone with bad knees. Also, we found several of the lamp shades acted to make the bedroom and living rooms dark, even when the adjustable lighting was set to maximum brightness reading in the evening and in bed could be difficult except at the dining table on dining chairs. The bin scheme everything goes in one bin and is then sorted by the collecting company was a dream from which were sad to awaken. Id have said that young people looking for a handy base for touring would love this. Oldies like us had to compromise a bit too much with some dim lighting, and lowslung sofas, and it would help to emphasise this aspect, if its set to stay this way.
Overall this cottage is excellent. Very well equipped and a first class location. Very confortable beds and great showers. Loads of of space and dog friendly. If I had one very minor criticism it would be that the sofas are a bit flat so not the most comfortable. That said we had such wonderful weather that we were out more than in.
Absolutely loved our stay at Ellerthwaite House. The house was so clean and very homely. The beds were so comfy and were very much needed after a day exploring this beautiful part of the World! It was very well equipped and had everything we needed for our stay. The dogs loved the back garden and enjoyed us having the patio doors open whilst we played games at the dining table in the evening. Perfect location with plenty of eateries, pubs and walks. Can highly recommend Tillys, the food was lovely and the dogs were made very welcome! Such a lovely house we will definitely be back! Thank you for our delightful stay
Steven
Great position in Windemere and a great house.
Lovely and clean, great location, beds comfortable, well equipped kitchen.
Pamela
Property was excellent & lived up to our expectations & more. ..the only thing & it is really small!! is perhaps cushions for the chairs outside. I know really picky, but we were fortunate to have amazing weather & they weren't the most comfortable to sit ondine outside on. Other than that it was excellent with amazing facilities & well presented
What a lovely property in an excellent location. Really well equipped kitchen though we just stuck with the kettle and toaster! comfy beds, very good showers and a small enclosed courtyard which our little dog loved pottering around. The park opposite was perfect for early morning dog walks and two minutes into Windermere with some really nice dog friendly places to eat would particularly recommend Tillys. The neighbours next door were really friendly and gave us a helpful map of the area. Would absolutely recommend a stay here.
Debbie
Well equipped property in a great location.
Amazing house everything is done to a high standard. The house is equipped with everything you can possibly think of. Fantastic base for a lovely break away.
Gordon
Enjoyed a very comfortable week at Ellerthwaite House for a significant birthday. Excellent quality fixtures and fittings apart from a couple of dripping taps and a lovely, snug and warm rear lounge tended not to use the front lounge as colder with a sooty smell. Location is wonderful, being only along the road from the shops, bars and restaurants of Windermere Village tried a different eatery every night! A good time was had by all thank you.
Robert
Excellent property, great location and facilities. Would highly recommend. Just a couple of minor issues with previous guests towels left in one of the laundry bins and large clump of hair behind one of the dressing tables.
Lovely place and central to all places of interest would recommend to anyone who wants to visit the Lakes
Rachael
Property in general was excellent. Spacious for 4, could comfortably accommodate 6. Secure outside space for doggie was ideal. Beds huge and comfy, bedding and towels good. Couple of minor grumbles, note was left that dishwasher in kitchen was not working which meant a track up steps into the bootutility room to use that one. Inconvenient and potentially dangerous, Was frustrating as was same make and model as the broken kitchen one so possibly an easy swap for guest convenience. No starter pack for wood burner, brought logs with us but meant needed to go buy kindling and firefighters left there for next guests Despite a lot of info in pack against dog spoilage indoors and penalties, some evidence of staining in top bedroom. As always, we tidied behind us and hoovered etc, but hoover needed some maintenance and was a bit whiffy. However, back to positives, and there were many! Showers all great with good power and top notch heating etc on demand Kitchen was really well equipped and had all crockery, utensils etc that you could hope for, off road parking for two cars was perfect. The house was situated perfectly away from the main road but still only a stones throw from the shops bars and restaurants. Would defo look to book again, please dont be put off from any comments above, they are simply feedback on things that could be even better. On the whole a great place to stay, thank you
Richard
Great house in a good location to enjoy Windermere town and the surrounding Lake District area
Melanie
The most well equipped property we have stayed in to date. All of the beds were extremely comfortable with good quality bedding and furnishings. Would not hesitate to return.
Joanne
The property was beautiful, clean and an absolutely perfect position. The gardens across the road ideal. Could not fault it.
Rosemary
Thank you for your hospitality. We were extremely pleased with our choice in property. Everything we may have needed was provided. Very comfortable beds, bathrooms large with excellent showers. So conveniently positioned close to all the main shops and restaurants. Having the park opposite worked beautifully for our dogs early morning and last late night walk. Two things to note the extractor fan in the downstairs toilet isnt working and we feel, for security sake, perhaps there should be a bolt on the back wooden gate.
Second time staying at Ellerthwaite House. This fabulous house is very comfortable and well kitted out with everything you need and more.. Excellent location with all Windermere amenities a short walk away. Close to bus route if you wish to go further afield. Highly recommended and Lakelovers are excellent to deal with too.
This house is just perfect. It has been renovated to a very high standard throughout. The kitchen is so well equipped with absolutely everything and I do mean everything you could possibly need in a holiday home. The beds are very comfortable. The house itself is heated throughout and was lovely and warm. The property is in a very good location for both Windermere and Bowness. We were a party of six aged 63 85 and a dog and everyone loved the house. I have already looked to see what the availability is for later in the year as we cannot wait to go back and I can't recommend Ellerthwaite House highly enough certainly the best holiday home we have stayed in anywhere.
A comfortable, clean and ideally located property with off street parking.
Elaine
Gorgeous property one of the best we have stayed in. Excellent location. Cleanliness outstanding. Very comfortable. Only a couple of things the hot water was very very hot coming out of upstairs and kitchen taps. Need to be aware. Also central light in dining room did not work. Other than that a fabulous property to stay in
Stephen
Lovely home with everything provided. Would definetly recomend
Jennifer
The property is in a great location and is an ideal base for going on long walks and exploring the Lakes. Ellerthwaite House is exceptionally clean, comfortable yet very spacious and is fully stocked throughout the house with anything you could possibly need & all very high quality products I would defiantly recommend this property and will certainly be returning again in the future.
Heating system not fully functioning in half the house no hot water one day and ... Heating system not fully functioning in half the house no hot water one day and general maintenance and general upkeep of the house needs addressing we have stayed at this house 7times and noticed the change
On arrival the house was just what we wanted, unfortunately the boiler was broken. Out of 7 days we only had hot water for 2days , engineer came out 3 times but still not resolved. Tried to call the company and basically fobbed off after many phone calls and messages not responded to on Watts app On our last day asked for someone to come out again which we were promised some one would come but nothing Customer service is non existent after promises of a return call we have heated nothing Dont book with lake lovers you will not get no support if there is any issues in the property
Andrew
The property was lovely, great facilities and spotlessly clean on arrival. Its also in a great location, round the corner from Windermere and a short walk to Bowness. We would strongly recommend for anyone seeking a comfortable family break in Windermere.
Absolutely lovely house with all amenities to make the holiday special,so good we have booked again for next year.
House lovely ,everything available sofa in the snug needs new cushions seats ... House lovely ,everything available sofa in the snug needs new cushions seats mattress cover topping in back bedroom stained apart from that everything thing fine
This was a really great place to stay. Excellent location and beautifully equipped. Lots of space to spread out. Well placed for walking to the centre of Windermere and its shops and eateries. We really enjoyed our long weekend.
Ellerthwaite House was perfect for my 60th birthday celebrations. The kitchen was superbly equipped. The bedrooms were spacious and very comfortable. The entire bathrooms were a real treat as well. The downstairs spaces were spacious and comfortable. I would highly recommend this house. However I was not so impressed with the Lakelovers company. I tried to contact them to ask a couple of questions and to change the number of people staying by email 5 times before my stay and I received no reply to any of them.
