French doors open to a private patio for alfresco dining. The peaceful location provides tranquility while staying close to Windermere's restaurants and lake activities. The mezzanine creates a cosy reading spot. Secure bike storage encourages exploring together.

Cragfell Cottage Reviews

Amazingly well presented property with all the essentials and more! It was a real advantage having a washerdryer with the weather being so interchangeable, and it just takes the pressure off having to do it all on returning home. The small welcome hamper was a really nice touch. The only real downside is the low water pressure and lack of hot water in the upstairs bathroom and kitchen taps.
A wonderful lovely holiday. The scenery is out of this world and the cottage is perfect. I would recommend this cottage to anyone who wants a peaceful and tranquil holiday
Lovely comfy hideaway away from the hustle and bustle of the Lakes. Excellent views. Great cottage. Roomy and well equipped. Just a few little niggles bathroom floor slippery when wet so care is needed, cafetire only big enough for one cup, some larger glasses would be a bonus and no spare bin bags. These didnt spoil our enjoyment of the holiday or the cottage in general.
Beautifully spacious, comfortable and well equipped cottage about 15 minutes drive from Bowness on Windermere car parks. Situated in lovely countryside, though this means driving down some single track roads. East facing windows give you gorgeous sunrises every morning.
Loved the property maybe the bathroom requires some attention but wasnt a big problem. Very comfortable bed and lounge furniture.Everything you needed in the kitchen and very clean as was the whole property.Residents around the cottage were very pleasant but not intrusive.Short walk to the Mason Arms where the food and beer were good and the beer cheaper than elsewhere in the lakes. On the way to the pub through the fields look out for the moles hung on the fence, not for the squeamish. A beautiful and very quiet area, we will be back.

First impressions were wow. When we pulled up outside the cottage we knew it was going to be a lovely place inside as well as out. The views outside were amazing and then inside the cottage, we were really pleased. There was everything we needed in the kitchen for cooking our meals for the week. We enjoyed different walks everyday and did not want to leave when our holiday came to an end. Would definitely recommend Cragfell cottage. We loved the peace and quiet and felt humbled to be returning after a long day walking. Could not fault the place. Will hopefully return very soon.

Absolute peace and tranquility is what you get when renting this property this was our second stay and once again very relaxing recommended central location for the lakes and other attractions much appreciation to the owners for sharing the opportunity for people to enjoy such a gem of a cottage will definitely book again without fail thankyou Neil and karen Axminster Devon
Spacious and well equipped cottage with great extensive views. Very comfortable and quiet location. Due to the very narrow lanes leading to the cottage from a wider road, you need to be able to back up using your wing mirrors, although we only had to do this once in our 7 day stay.

We had a lovely stay at Cragfell cottage. Lots of room and really peaceful surroundings. The bed was so comfy we slept so well. The chair on the mezzanine was claimed by my other half and it was a lovely nook to read and listen to some chilled music. We planned a very chilled week so didn't go out every day. We visited Furness Abbey. We also booked a red Panda experience at south lakes wildlife park which was amazing. We did a lovely walk from Wray Castle along lake Windermere. So much to do in the area so we will definitely be back. Yes the roads to the cottage are narrow but nothing too bad if you take your time and listen out for traffic.
No knife sharpener as the knives were blunt, towels smelt musty as if they had not been properly dried. Lot of wasps in the house every day, the windows were not open. The shower does not drain well. The photo on the web site needs to show the property next door as we were surprised that we had a number of neighbours. The property was lovely, great location with wonderful views.
There are a couple things which could be added to make this a 5 property. firstly, the cafetiere is a single cup one when the property is for 2 people. I am not a tea drinker but tea pot also looked a bit small. please provide a larger one or better still a pod coffee machine. would be useful to have a waste paper bin in the bedroom. also, no oven gloves!

An excellent place to stay. Very well equipped and very comfortable. A great Base for exploring.
A lovely cottage in a beautiful peaceful location with wonderful views across the valley.
The wet room shower at this property is dangerous. The flooring used is completely wrong for a wet room, which should be fitted with a covering with a rough gripping surface which wraps up the sides of the walls. The material used is more suitable for use in a normal room, kitchen dining room, etc. As a result it is very slippery indeed and as it does not drain quickly enough the whole floor becomes glass like. In addition the bottom of the door and frame are showing signs of rotting with the effect of the water. Additionally although the property is situated in a lovely location with stunning views, the access roads to it are very narrow and difficult to negotiate, especially as the local farm tractors are passing by constantly. Even in good weather this can make access difficult, in bad weather and with dark, wet, nights of winter this could be very difficult, especially when meeting traffic coming the other way. This should I think in the interest of safety be stated in the property details.
Excellent holiday accommodation. Very clean and tidy with much local information provided. We came for a peaceful break and certainly got that. The weather limited our walks but still managed to get around the area by walking using the quiet country lanes. More than happy to recommend Cragfell Cottage

The cottage is in a tiny quiet hamlet in glorious countryside, next to another holiday cottage. Other than the comings and goings of our neighbours, the only noise was birdsong which sadly is so short lived through the spring and the resident pheasants. The cottage itself is very spacious and comfortable especially the bed. We loved being able to keep the patio doors open at night and listen to owls, see bats and generally enjoy the evening as it cooled. Yes we had sunny and very warm weather. Wed totally forgotten how stunning the Lythe Valley is and our stay here was a timely reminder. Thank you to the owners for making the cottage so welcoming and I bet theyve got plans to improve the shower room because a little improvement there would make the cottage perfect.

Cragfell Cottage is spacious, comfortable and had everything needed for our stay. Its set in the most beautiful countryside, with gorgeous views and is so peaceful & quiet. There are lovely walks from the front door, we walked to Masons Arms which serves great food. The cottage is a great base to explore the Southern Lake District. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely book again!

Had a wonderful stay at Cragwell cottage, beautiful accommodation and amazing views. Would definitely return in the future.
1010! We could not recommend this cottage anymore, everything that you need and more! The cottage is in a beautiful location with stunning views. An ideal couple get away and only a 15 minute drive to the town of BownessonWindermere. Highly recommend!

Our 2nd time staying was lovely and so relaxing. 2 minor issues the shower was draining so slow and a few cobwebs about, didnt ruin our stay will be back! X
We had a lovely fortnight at Cragfell Cottage. The weather wasn't that good, but most of the time, we were either in the cottage or at some attraction that was indoors, so it didn't really stop us from doing anything. On 2 occasions when the weather was particularly bad, it wiped the WiFi out, but once we reported it to the owners, BT were out very quickly. I would say the only 2 tiny criticisms we had, there was no iron or ironing board & as we were there for 2 weeks, we really could have used one. And the other thing, we didn't know what all the symbols around the oven dial were. We use gas at home so we had absolutely no clue.
Had a great stay at the property Comfortable bed Lovely location, quiet and peaceful, just what we wanted
Overall the cottage was above my expectations. It had everything and more. We did miss our boiled egss as there were no egg cups and an iron and ironing board would have been handy. There could have been more information as to the location. The drive to and from the cottage would challenge a nervous driver. You need to buy all you food essentials in one go as there are no supermarkets or small shops in the local area.
Judith
Very comfortable cottage, with amazing views. Spacious for a twoperson cottage. Facilities in cottage excellent and welcome pack a great touch. Great base for South Lake District and Cartmel peninsula. We enjoyed fabulous weather during our stay and as such missed having comfortable sun loungers to fully appreciate the evening sun. Would highly recommend the cottage to other couples.
Just absolutely stunning. Perfect views to wake up to every morning. 20 minute walk to the local pub which again has the most beautiful views. Quiet and peaceful. Only downside is we didnt stay longer.
Lovely cottage and the views are amazing. Very relaxing and peaceful, it was the perfect break from our city lives. Very clean and facilities were good, it had what we needed for our weekend away. Only issue was one of the outside chairs was broken, however that never spoilt our trip. We would definitely recommend it and will be coming back in the future.
Hannah
The location is remote, just as the listing says very skinny lanes to drive around in, but nothing too steep or scary! The house was absolutely gorgeous, the bed super comfortable and the booklet for information was very helpful. It was a home away from home. We did one of the recommended walks which was brilliant despite the weather. Thank you for such a perfect honeymoon stay, we'll definitely be back again!
Anthony
My stay at cragfell cottage placed in a quiet hamlet. Very cozy and well equipt with everything one would need for a stay. Ticked all my needs and more, i would highly recomend cragfell cottage for future holiday breaks in the Lake District.
Christopher
After reading a couple of negative comments prior to travel, we were a little apprehensive en route I must now seriously question whether the commentators actually stayed there. For us, the only downside was not being able to afford an extra week it was perfect!

The cottage was beautiful, the scenery was spot on. The only let down was that when we first arrived it smelled of tarmacburning quite badly, we later found out it was the boiler near the bedroom which is awfully strong. Smelt of tarmac throughout the whole week. No dressing table was available.. I had to use my phone camera as a mirror and sit at the dining table downstairs. Although as we were getting ready to leave we found a small cosmetic mirror in the bottom of the chest of drawers. Didnt think to look there for a mirror. Started to cook dinner on our first night to find some of the plates, utensils were still dirty, had to wash up before we could use. Food was left over in the freezer from the last residents. No oven gloves The shower was brilliant, bathroom was beautiful but where its a open shower the floor of the whole bathroom gets soaking wet. Overall it was a lovely stay with a few issues.
First time staying in this cottage and couldnt fault it at all , lovely location with great views from the lounge and bedroom , very clean and well kept . Easy check in process and we had no issues at all Would highly recommend
Alison
Excellent cottage everything was great.
Fantastic stay at this property , would recommend, great area for walking
Stephen
Fantastic accommodation which felt modern and comfortable throughout. Quiet location and great views. We'd definitely return and recommend to others
Lovely cottage really peaceful location and everything you could need
The property was lovely and clean and provided modern contemporary living in a traditional countryside setting. The property was ideally located for exploring The Lakes but also provided a quite, rural retreat to come back to at the end of the day.
Sharon
Amazing cottage, our appreciation to the house keeper, the cottage was so clean, a snagging issue with the shower trap being blocked but that was a maintenance item, it was a case of simple unblocking as we did not want to flood the bathroom floor! Would we book again, oh yes, cannot recommend enough you really have to stay in this cottage to appreciate the location and facilities absolutely amazing
Aileen
We had a lovely time ,a beautiful cottage with beautiful views . The weather was mixed but we were quite happy to stay in so many DVD s to choose from . For walkers an ideal place so many walks to go on . The only down side was the narrow lanes to get to the main road if we had been younger we wouldnt have worried . One of the nicest cottages we have ever stayed .
