Discover why this cottage is ideal for different types of visitors

For Families
World of Beatrix Potter is just 1.2 miles away with interactive exhibitions. The large family-friendly garden provides safe outdoor play space. Grizedale Forest Park offers Go Ape activities and sculpture trails. Lake Windermere has boat trips and watersports. The property includes a travel cot and highchair. Two separate living rooms give families space to spread out during evenings.
For Couples
Thorndale works better for groups than couples due to its size. The three bedroom layout and multiple living spaces suit families rather than romantic breaks. Couples wanting Lake District accommodation would find smaller properties more intimate. The location between two villages provides easy access to restaurants and lakeside walks. The garden offers private outdoor space during warmer months.
Pet Friendly
Thorndale does not accept pets. The property operates a strict no-pets policy. Some guests have mentioned finding pet hair from previous stays, but the official policy prohibits animals. Guests with dogs should look for alternative Lake District properties that welcome pets. The garden and nearby walks would suit dog owners, but booking is not possible with animals.

Thorndale Reviews

Lorraine
Thorndale is a wonderful home from home for us. This is our fourth stay in the property and it is still as good as ever. A great base to access all the Lake District has to offer and a short walk to the amenities in either Windermere or Bowness. The house is comfortable, well equipped with every detail considered. The garden is lovely.
Our family group of 6 adults had a lovely comfortable week at Thorndale. The house was tastefully and beautifully furnished and had everything we required to make the best of our stay. It was a real bonus to have 3 beds that were king size or bigger and all with their own bathroom. The location was great with both Windermere and Bowness being equidistant and approx a 20 minute gentle walk, while the bus stop was so close it was visible from the house. The 3 distinctly separate living areas were large enough to share family time together, but also gave us the opportunity to send quiet time alone. Taking everything into consideration, Thorndale was one of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in. A very happy holiday was had by all.
Fantastic holiday home and I say home because it really felt like a home, not just a house rented out for holidays. Very spacious, beautiful decor everywhere, very well equipped kitchen and everything finished to a high standard. Couldn't be in a more convenient location too, so easy to walk to Windermere and Bowness, and very handy for the bus too, we've enjoyed not using the car!
We had a lovely stay at Thorndale. Gorgeous property, comfortable and cosy. Ideally situated between Windermere Village and Bowness. No complaints, just a couple of ideas, perhaps a tray would be a good addition to the well equipped kitchen. Especially taking drinks and snacks upstairs. A small supply of kindlingwood would be a bonus, although the gas fire was definitely a good addition. A couple of cleaning products would be useful, just a general purpose spray and perhaps toilet cleaner. Otherwise everything was perfect for our stay and would definitely like to return
Had a few issues that the previous group had obviously caused but the main thing was the plumbing which was sorted out by the owner promptly, other than that a beautiful house in a fantastic location, would highly recommend.
Thorndale is a wonderful holiday home! Everything was perfect.

This is a property I cannot pick fault with, our second time here and booked again for next year! It is spacious with large tasteful rooms, the kitchen is well equipped and as we were fortunate enough to have a hot sunny week the garden is beautiful to still and relax in. Location is great with a short walk to either the walk or the shops. A fantastic base for a Lakes holiday.
We were a party of 5. This property was absolutely fabulous. With lots of space, a perfect equipped kitchen and garden furniture for our comfort. There is only one little complaint. One of us is a passionated gardener and was a bit disappointed when we came back on one day and the lawn was freshly cut. He would have loved to do that himself . We would definitely recommend Thorndale and would try to book it again for our next visit in the Lake District.
Thorndale was a superb property with all facilities required for a holiday cottage. The standard of the property was excellent. My only issues of concern for anyone considering the property would be the stairs leading down to the kitchen area and lower floor bedroom from the lounges. They are difficult to negotiate even if able bodied, but could be a problem for anyone with mobility issues. We did have someone in the party who was on crutches who did have problems and the only way to access the diningkitchenlower bedroom was via these stairs unless detoured via the garden. Otherwise, the property got 5 stars. Well situated for Bowness and Windermere. Would not have any issues with booking this property again. You do maintain your fitness with the stairs in general.
We have had a great stay in Thorndale, just as the pictures! ! Great location. Outside area must be great in the summer. Beds were so comfortable! Kitchen well equipped, apart from pint glasses, also it is meant to be no pets, but there was definitely pet hair on the kitchen rug. We had a baby crawling on the floor. We will definitely be back!!

Beautiful property ideal for a family holiday, will book again
Louise
Fantastic property within walking distance of Bowness and Windemere. The house was even better than we imagined from the photos on the website high quality furnishing all in very good condition. Very spacious property and a fantastic garden. Off street parking was really useful too. We had a fabulous time and would definitely return.
The house was beautiful, perfect location and on a lovely quiet road. Had everything we needed in the house although there was not a coffee machine which was pictured in the photos. We would definitely stay here again.
There were two different days for rubbish collection Monday in folder and Tuesday on notice on the wall in the kitchen. Two broken shower doors that were quickly fixed, but should have been noticed during cleaning,
We loved the property! Just as described. Plenty of space for us all, fully equipped kitchen, and great garden, roomy parking too. Extra surprises were the kids toys in the cupboard and a few bits in the garden that helped keep our little boy occupied. The location is perfect for walking into Bowness or Windermere, or easy to get out in the car to other places. As previous guests noted, there were a few bits of cleaning that needed a bit more attention but on the whole it was fine.
Great location allowing us to walk to either Bowness or Windermere which played a big factor in why we booked Thorndale. The house is lovely, spacious and nicely laid out with quality fixtures and furnishings, tastefully decorated and met my main requirements of powerful showers and comfortable beds though the latter is a matter of personal preference. The garden is a delight to sit out in on a nice day. My only gripes echo those of others. Some of the cleaning wasn't up to scratch and I'm not being picky soaptoothpaste stains on the tiles on the ensuite walls, a scum at the water level within the w.c and dirty floor tiles I don't think the ensuite had been cleaned at all. Also the lack of any liquid soap at any of the sinks meant we had to go out to a shop the moment we arrived which isn't ideal we spent a few on liquid soap for every sink and left them behind us so hopefully guests for the next few months don't have the same issue.
This was the third visit by our family to Thorndale. It is a beautiful & very well presented house in a great location with excellent all round facilities. The cleanliness was of an adequate standard but some areas had been overlooked, quite possible due to the heavy workload of the cleaner! We will definitely return in the future as this is one of our favourite properties in the area.
The property we stayed in was lovely. High quality house and fittings. The house was in a super location for our group. A quiet residential area just off the main road and accessible on foot to lots of amenities. There was a slight problem with some cleanliness issues. The coffee table had sticky marks on it and there were quite a few crumbs in the kitchen and dinning room. Other than that we had a fabulous time and would have no hesitation recommending this property.
Lovely house in a great location. We were a group of 6 friends and the house had everything we needed. Its a shame it was winter as the garden looked lovely.
Kathryn
We had a fabulous stay. The property was really special, loads of room for everyone, ultra comfy beds and great facilities. Thorndale is central to a lot of places without having to travel far and near lots of great eateries. Having nothing negative to say about Thorndale, a fantastic place to stay.
Vivien
Thorndale is a lovely house so comfortable and cosy. Beds very comfortable. Showers great. We would have liked cleaning things available. Paying as much as we did we thought we shouild have a bench spray, hand wash gel, something to clean the toilets, foil to protect trays when using the oven. We have had these things in other properties we have been to. We were on holiday and didnt expect to have to do shopping for these things in order to keep the place nice and clean. Otherwise everything was lovely. Awfull weather mind so fires were very welcome.
Joseph
We really loved the house, it is bright and spacious and very comfortably furnished and in a fantastic location. It has a lovely garden and furniture if the sun shines. Kitchen very well equipped with everything you need to prepare meals. The super king bedroom downstairs is very spacious with lots of storage. However we were a group of 2 couples and 2 children and the lovely larger bedroom upstairs that can be converted to a twin really is more suitable for a couple rather than 2 children. The third bedroom at the back is much smaller but better for children, we think it would work much better if this room had twin beds in it rather than a small double. Just a few niggles, the towel rail in the bathroom was loose and came off the wall and the shower screen in the bedroom upstairs kept coming off the rail and a few handles were missing on a chest of drawers. Apart from that it was great and if the beds were changed in the back bedroom for 2 children we would love to stay again.
Michael
The property was not cleaned to a good enough standard which you were informed ... The property was not cleaned to a good enough standard which you were informed about abs you still failed to call back and re clean after our complaint
