Priory Lodge Reviews

Everything abt the cottage is perfect, but when you have 2 15 year old boys the internetWiFi would be an added bonus. Walks etc brilliant perfect Central location.
Could be 5 stars but for 2 problems Firstly the 4g signal in the property was poor so no wifi made online access very difficult More seriously the entrance to the property accesses a very busy road with little visibility. Of necessity you drive in forwards and reverse out. You need a spotter prepared to help a driver who cannot see the road when coming out of the gates. A safety mirror on the other side of the road might help? Otherwise fantastic property clean, well appointed and otherwise located
Nice property. Wasn't very clean. Grandson found back of dried meat in a bag in bedroom cabinet drawer. Hadn't been checked. Arrived no teabags coffee or anything. Very rare you rent a cottage and don't get left something to make a drink. Bins overflowing rubbish blowing around the yard.
The location is beautiful. The property is full of character. In summer I can imagine this being even better and it was brilliant as it is. We were there in late December and being a historical property, we needed to layer up in the evenings, which did not diminish our enjoyment. We loved it here.
Fantastic Christmas break with family! Perfect house in a great location. Would love to return in the future!!
Heating not 'man enough' for the job target temp. of 20 degrees C never reached. Radiator in dining room seems far too small were calculations done correctly ? 3 outer walls, 2 windows, room air volume, etc Radiators in lounge suit design of room but are not very good at producing heat. 1 lightbulb in double bedroom, and 1 lightbulb on stairs need replacing.

We had a wonderful stay at the Priory Lodge. The house is absolutely lovely and wellfurnished. It was a perfect base for our wider adventures in the Lakes, but we also loved exploring the walks and lake near the house. We didn't mind not having WiFi we just brought lots of books, DVDs and games for the rainy days. As for the driveway being close to a busier roundabout, there's a section where you can pull aside and back into the driveway, which makes leaving the house much less daunting. Overall, we would highly recommend Priory Lodge!
Loved it, fantastic stay. Cottage had real character and was lovely and clean, excellent value for our few days in August. Excellent kitchen area. Its right near the main road but once inside with the gates shut you barely notice the traffic and feel like youd miles away. Ten to fifteen minute walk into town, it is uphill but wasnt an issue for us, prefer uphill to start and then downhill after a few beers. Its close to the main bus route and I would consider getting the bus to Ambleside etc as parking in August is the usual nightmare. Only negative comment is it mentions private access to the lake, we couldnt find it and theres nothing on the kitchen notice board to suggest where it is if it exists.
The property was absolutely beautiful, exactly like the pictures, we loved it.

Great place to stay. Lovely property and great location

The house was beautiful and the views amazing the private pathway to the lake was just perfect for early morning walk with my dog . Will definitely be back for another visit .
The property was a surprise despite the photos it is much prettier. well furnished kitchen. There was nothing we needed. The only problem was getting the car out of the property. The car had to back into the busy road. Maybe a driveway outside mirror at the entrance would help the driver. Suggest the bedside lights be a little more brighter. Other than that top marks. Hope to visit the place sometime in the winter .
Lovely property, bathrooms could do with a bit of updating' property could be a bit cleaner, on arrival we found crumbs around the toaster and cobwebs all over. we know its in the country but a quick going over with a swiffer duster would have done i asked Lakelovers about an unbrella for the outside table as it was hot when we were there, i was told if there isnt one there there isnt one! outside lights that could provide some light while sitting out at night would have been good, not just movement security lights. overall a very enjoyable stay, we will stay here again.

Lovely cottage everything provided that you could need for a comfortable holiday ... Lovely cottage everything provided that you could need for a comfortable holiday in great location everything within walking distance in fantastic area of the country

We enjoyed our stay at Priory Lodge. The location is great, house is charming, beds are comfortable. The parking directly off the street was cumbersome, but manageable. We liked the enclosed garden with swings and walk to the lake. This property could be improved by offering a few more amenities, such as a French press or coffee maker and obviously WiFi.

The property was great, however there are some improvements to be made. The property was not clean, there were cobwebs and lots of the cutlery and dishes were dirty, also the cleaning chemicals there were empty, but we brought our own anyway. There should be a clear instruction sheet displayed somewhere, not tiny notes on bits of paper pinned to a notice board behind the kitchen door. We had to search the house for the thermostat control, only to find it behind a curtain in the dining room then no instructions on how to use it. There was no clear instructions on how to get to the lakejetty. All of the above have been listed several times in the visitors book, which is seemingly being ignored. The CO alarms kept beeping our whole stay
House was lovely and warm downstairs. Kitchen well stocked although we had to buy a fish slice and a couple of the glasses were cracked. Bedrooms were cosy, beds were clean and towels were soft. Parking area was ample and not difficult to access. Property is let down by the cleaning and maintenance. There was a bag of open rubbish in the parking area when we arrived and some of it had blown into the garden. There were no instructions about rubbish disposal and recycling procedures. Some parts of the house could be better cleaned. The dining table has grooves in it where food particles have collected. Could do with a good clean. Some of the doors and skirting boards could do with a lick of paint especially the en suite door. Radiator in main bedroom didn't work, shower was spraying water all over the floor and toilet rollholder was broken. All things which could be easily fixed.
Property is listed as having 1 shower and 1 over bath shower. This is misleading as the over bath cant be used as a shower. I would not have booked if I knew 6 people would have to share 1 shower in the en suite bathroom. Apart from this the lodge was lovely with a great location. Not worth the price we paid for a week in school holidays though.
Shame on Sykess cottages for charging us nearly 1400 for a dirty , tired cottage, nothing was stated that it sits on the corner of 2 main roads and reversing off the drive each time onto on coming traffic is not a nice experience, the guest book in the cottage is full of customer comments stating how dirty the cottage is going back years yet you still rent it out for an extortionate price !
Glenda
We love the Lake District and had a brilliant time but the listing does not make it clear that the property is on a main road. This is a huge disappointment when you book a holiday to get away from it all. The description of access to the private jetty is accurate but implies that you are well away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and right by the lake not so. There was more traffic and noise pollution at this property than where we live. The property itself has all the facilities listed but it is in desperate need of a lick of paint, new bathrooms and a VERY deep clean. I spent the first few hours washing cushion covers and mopping floors to freshen the place up. Not the standard of cleanliness I would expect for a holiday of this nature.

We have just returned from staying at priory lodge for 7 nights, 6 of us including grandparents, 2 teenage girls and a 1yr old cockapoo . The location was ideal and the private pathway and jetty was fantastic for our dog walks and the girls loved swimming in the lake, although the path is very steep back upto the cottage so our older guests only did it the once. I was very, very disappointed that the description did not mention that the gardenpatio area was located at the front of the property and it was wrongly described as enclosed. There were several sections which our dog could have easily got through and the roads outside are unbelievably busy all day evening so unfortunately we could not sit outside and relax atall without her on a lead, you cannot even see the garden from the patio area so this was a massive issue for us. She did manage to push a side gate open and run through it, which we now know has a faulty latch on the other side, how we managed to grab her before running into the road I will never know. So anytime we were back at the cottage was spent inside unfortunately. The cottage itself was comfortable, the walls could have done with a lick of paint here and there but overall was ok. We would not stay again purely because of the garden situation which is a shame because all the other boxes were ticked.
A welcome pack would have been appreciated. There weren't even any basics provided like pepper and salt, oil, tea bags and some sugar. We had a BBQ one night but couldn't find one provided which was disappointing. Not even a pair of tongs. The double beds would benefit from upgrading to king size. The property itself was lovely in a perfect position between Windermere and Bowness. The stroll down to the jetty was gorgeous and we were able to swim in the lake as we had perfect weather all week.
Stephen
The cottage in general was very nice and the location and gardens were ideal. I feel it would take just a small amount of work to elevate this property. There were a few of the walls that could do with a paint just to freshen them up, especially the stairway and the porch area could do with a clean to remove cobwebs etc. The bathrooms would benefit from an upgrade. I was very disappointed that there was no WIFI within the property. In this day and age, Internet access is really a must have. Overall though, we had a great time at this property and would return.
Beautiful house, plenty of room for us all, private jetty a nice touch. Xx
This property gives you privacy but is not too far from everything in the area.
