Is High Biggin in Windermere Right For You?

For Families
The games room provides entertainment for children alongside the spacious garden and terrace areas. The World of Beatrix Potter attraction is 1.2 miles away. Lake Windermere offers boat trips and paddleboarding. Grizedale Forest has adventure playgrounds and walking trails. However, the property has an open fire and hot tub requiring supervision. Two steps at the entrance may challenge very young children.
For Couples
The property works well for two couples sharing with its 4 en-suite bedrooms providing privacy. The hot tub offers relaxation with Lake Windermere views. The open fire and baby grand piano create atmosphere in the lounge. Bowness village is a 5-minute walk for restaurants and pubs. Lake cruises depart from nearby Bowness Pier. However, the cottage is designed for larger groups rather than intimate couple getaways.
Pet Friendly
High Biggin operates a strict no-pets policy. Dogs and other animals are not permitted at this property under any circumstances. The owners do not make exceptions to this rule. If you need pet-friendly accommodation in the Lake District, you'll need to look at alternative properties. The landscaped grounds and proximity to walking trails would suit dogs, but the policy prevents this.

High Biggin in Windermere Reviews

The location was good with a 20 minute walk to the town avoiding country lanes. The property had a lot of space and ample size rooms. the are some re decoration in progress paused in the holiday and will make a big diffence to some of the tired areas. It was also well equiped, however there were a few areas which need sorting, I have fed these back to the email adress sending take over details etc, however not received a reply after 5 days.I think a couple of lightbulbs need replacing downstairsI stayed on bedroom 3 ( with side balcony)•Sink plug in en-suite leaks and needed to keep refilling during wash.•Right-hand light in mirror not working•The screen for the over bath shower does not seal against the bath. Leaving a big puddle on floor•There is a wasp nest in the wall below the big window, it must be quite large as it is possible to hear the” breathing buzz” when near the window and when looking out the window some wasps fly up at face hight a bit unnerving for the grandchildren. At some point it may break though inside. We had to clean/wash some of the crockery and all the cutlery and tray before we would use them as the tray they were sitting was very dirty. Also we had to clean several of the non-stick saucepans and casserole dishes before we could cook due to some stains inside. The frying pan in the kitchen cupboard and silicon oven gloves are both un-useable ( beyond cleaning)I am aware that spiders are inevitable in rural properties however there were many cobwebs ( with dust) and including some dead spiders which must have been there a while, not just since the changeover clean.

High Biggin is a beautiful house in a beautiful location. Away from the real noisy Main Street of Bowness but an easy downhill walk or drive to the centre where there are plenty of places to eat or just wander around. The house has oodles of room and charm - great facilities and the views are stunning. Fraser our contact was very responsive and informative. All in all this was a pretty perfect place to have our family holiday. We would love to have known a bit more of the history of the house
