Silverthwaite Reviews

Cottage was very nice however it's decor was a little tierd in places, the main bathroom had a very unpleasant smell, and both bathrooms could benefit from an upgrade. Quilt on the bed was a little thin for this time of year, kitchen could benefit from some more bits and pieces in it, The driveway isn't big enough for two cars, and outside lighting would've been useful especially over the key box. There was no laundry bags as mentioned in the instructions for the dirty bedding, and we we're unable to empty the bin as the wheelie bin was overflowing. Wifi didn't work either
As a family of four visiting the Lakes Silverthwaite was in a great location only 20 minutes walk into Bowness and 10 for Windermere. Property was as described but it also had a washer and dryer which I didnt know about. Onsuite was great but watch your head. I think the only downside was because its on a corner you are quite overlooked but thats just me. Due to the weather we couldnt take advantage of the lovely manicured garden. The hill is moderate and is a good workout. Comfortable, clean and has everything you need. Just maybe fix the paper on the bedroom ceiling.
Darren
The property itself is great and in a great location although internally it could do with a little bit of TLC ie some wallpaper peeling and toilet seat needs replacing. The only negative I have was to do with the cleanliness.I know it is nearly halloween, but the number of cobwebs and spiders in most rooms on arrival was disappointing. Either the cleaner is vertically challenged or not very good at dusting. The lounge rug also had not been hoovered. Overall I would recommend the property if you are prepared to do a bit of dusting.
Everything was good, the only issue for us was there was only a green recycling ... Everything was good, the only issue for us was there was only a green recycling bin for all our rubbish so it was all mixed up
House was about 10 minutes walk from shops and generally in good condition but it smelt of bleach on arrival and windows were dirty and looked like they hadn't been cleaned for several months. Sykes emailed afterwards to ask if we had taken a towel, which was strange, why would we, they were cheap and not something to take home
A lovely house. Good location. Felt right at home the moment we walked in. Parking in the driveway can be a challenge due to various vans parking on the road directly opposite.
Deborah
The scores that we have given above are for the following reasons, Cleanliness can be improved by paying more attention to cob webs and we had to vacuum the sofas before we could sit on them due to crumbs. There seemed to be an odour in the front bedroom that smelt like urine. The bathroom floor needed a good clean before we used it and the sink was full of hair in the plug hole. The ceiling wallpaper in bedroom was coming off and there is a fair amount of paint flaking on the stairs and sky light. That said we found the property ideal in regards to being able to park the car on the property, and we would still consider booking it again next year. For the owners information the patio doors plastic trims around the glass is coming away and the floor in the kitchen by the back door is weak.
Claire
Gorgeous house, we loved it here as a base for our holiday . Everything you need. Peaceful and clean . Thankyou so much , very happy and highly recommended property .
Beverley
The ONLY things we can comment on is the number of rather large cobwebs in the kitchen window, and some lesser ones on the living room light fitting, and that the external windows were fouled with bird mess and very dirty . However NONE of the these prevented our stay from being both comfortable and enjoyable in this very well equipped cottage. Easy walking distance to Windermere village and very handy convenience store just a few yards away.
Jackie
A very good property for a holiday. Everything you need and very clean. Only problem is the location, it is a long climb to reach the property, if you use a car, parking in off road private drive, than not a problem. Small general shop very close. One of the best holiday homes we have rented other than location.
The house was lovely, bed was really comfortable. Kitchen was well equipped, although we didn't do any cooking! We were disappointed with the garden area. It was neat and tidy, we like to sit outside but the two fold up deckchairs were not particularly comfy and it was not at all private as it was outside the front door, no back garden. The photo of it led us to picture it in a more rural setting and not in the middle of an housing estate, do that was a downside for us im afraid. It was a long hilly walk to Windemere town , I would say a car was essential unless you are avid walkers. We did enjoy the beautiful scenery of the kske district and took lots of photos of all the amazing scenery, this was our first vudit to the area. We did find the carparks expensive and spaces often difficult to come by, I would imagine it could get quite chaotic during nsin holiday season, we enjoyed some nice good while we were out and about, about 20 everywhere for fish and chips if eating out.would recommend the seafarers chippy !
Steven
Super cottage rental with living space that was surprisingly larger than I expected for a two bedroom house. It has a roomy & comfortable lounge with a supply of books, games, puzzles dvds etc.. I didnt get to use the room much as I was fortunate enough to visit during the Easter sunshine week & spent most of time in the evening out in the sun trap garden. The bedrooms are large & comfortable, & having two bathrooms in a smaller was a bonus. The kitchen was well equipped with almost everything you could need, the only improvement I could possibly think of & its a very minor thing is that the frying pan needs replacing as it has definitely seen better days. An excellent stay at a very nice property.
Very good location and well equipped cottage Accommodation was comfortable Would book again
Deborah
We enjoyed our stay and it was the 2nd time we have stayed at the property the bonus was being able to park on the drive, there were no real concerns but a bit more cleaning of dust build up behind radiators and cobwebs inside windows mainly the kitchen, which was cleaned off by ourselves. A bigger duvet would be good for the front bedroom. These issues will not affect us booking the property again. Just info for the owners the patio doors inside plastic is coming off.

This property was tastefully furnished. The super king bed that we used was was very comfortable. The sofas were also very comfortable unusual in holiday lets and looked new Feb 25. The heating was efficient. The kitchen was modern and well equipped. It did need a pair of scissors for opening packets etc but overall was very good. The parking for 2 cars was not realistic as it was tight and you could only get out on one side. However on road parking in the dead end road was easy and convenient. There was a corner shop a few yards away with delicious cakes.
Deborah
We had a lovely week and the secure parking was a bonus, we have no negative concerns and will definitely be booking it again next year, The property is midway between Windermere and Bowness, there is a cafe and shop 100 yards walk.
Our 2nd time here, gap of 6 years. Some new furniture, nice comfy recliner sofas, new mattresses, very comfy, best night's sleep I have genuinely had in years! Could have been a bit cleaner, long standing dust webs hanging from dining room ceiling and across some walls, not new ones!Shame about the lovely rose bush, a better outdoor seatingfacilities would have been nice, bench gone.Otherwise a lovely quiet and comfy stay.
We had such a great week staying in this charming house. It was very comfortable and well equipped, great to have the washing machine. Lovely, quiet area only ten minutes walk to restaurants and shops , a couple of minutes walk to a lovely caf, The Mission cafe , definitely recommend.Enjoyed having the DVDs to watch in the evenings. Very comfortable beds. The garden was lovely and well kept and we spent a lot of time sitting outside after our busy days as we were blessed with gorgeous weather. The only downside was the lack of proper garden chairs, there were only two folding chairs for three of us and they were not comfortable, luckily we had picnic chairs with us to supplement. All in all a great stay and we would definitely return.

This was our second time staying at Silverthwaite after staying there in 2018. We find it is an excellent location for exploring Windermere, Bowness and beyond. The house is comfortable, well equipped and there is plenty of parking outside in a quiet neighbourhood. If we were back in Windermere, Silverthwaite would be our first choice for accommodation.
Rebecca
Lovely cottage and facilities. Convenient location for walking to windermere and bowness on windermere. We manged to get both cars on the drive and enjoyed sitting outside on a warm evening. Had a great week in a wonderful location.
Generally all was ok with the cottage, however the outdoor furniture is in a dire state and is unfit for use and is a health & safety issue!
A really warm & comfortable property in a good location for walking to Windermere and Bowness. No problems with off road parking and good facilities within the cottage.
I wrote a long piece of feedback for this property which was not saved and has vanished.
Debbie
On arrival the cottage was clean and fresh, seemed to be well equipped and ideal for our holiday. In general this was the case, however it states that there is a washing machine at the property, we therefore packed accordingly thinking we would be able to wash clothes whilst there if necessary. As with all cottages we stay in there is a set of towels provided for each person which is sufficient if you can wash and dry them so we didn't take extra, on the second evening of our stay we decided we would wash and dry the towels so that we had fresh towels the next day, however once the washing cycle was complete we couldn't get the washing machine door to open, we ran the programme again and still it wouldn't open leaving us with no towels for the following day. It was a Monday bank holiday so when we called it was the emergency number and in fairness to the lady at the cleaning company she was very helpful and said she would try and get some towels to us and would try and get the washing machine fixed. However by Thursday no one had been to look at the washing machine so we called again, the owner was contacted and his response was that only one set of towels is provided per stay and that the washing machine was a luxury item so he wasn't getting it fixed. as far as i am concerned if the description of the cottage states that there is a washing machine then it should be working and certainly isn't a luxury item if that is what you have paid for in your weeks holiday rental. We have stayed in lots of cottages and i am very disappointed with the owners attitude, he'd had our money and wasn't bothered if we had a good stay or not, there is no visitor book in the property and no maintenance issues book either which we've had at every other property we have stayed at so that you can make a note for the owner if something is broken, this owner is clearly not interested. So i wouldn't stay here again simply because the attitude of the owner as so uninterested. Points to note The light switch in one of the bedrooms doesn't work so no main light just bedside lamps. Toilet seat in the en suite moves about this has been mentioned before and clearly not been fixed. There is a very low doorway into the en suite, some has taped a piece of foam along the door frame, a messy and unsuccessful solution to the problem as my husband knocked his head on the frame and grazed it. To sum up, apart from the washing machine issue the property is very nice, and we had a very nice holiday despite me tripping falling down the stairs rail only on one sideand being blue lighted to Lancaster hospital 9pm on the weds night, thanks to the ambulance team that arrived within half an hour, they where amazing as were the hospital staff. I have a fractured wrist, a black eye & lots of bruises and concussion!! We did have a good holiday and will visit the lakes again just not Silverthwaite Cottage. .
Richard
The cottage was as described and suited us perfectly for our week in the Lake District. As for the comments re the parking, theres enough space for one, not two cars on the drive. People commenting on it being difficult to access need more reversing practice..
The cottage is in an ideal location walkable to the centre of Windemere and Bowness and had everything we needed. It is a nice size, if a little dated. We got lucky with some fabulous warm weather at Easter so fitted in many long walks and happily sat out in the garden later in the day. There was restricted onroad parking on Nelson RoadPark Road for the last 3 days of our stay due to roadworks will also be 5 days for whoever is booked after us. However I found parking on the driveway to be fine mine is a large saloon car, but can see how largerSUVs might struggle.
We loved the cottage and we would stay again in the future. Good location and walkable to Bowness. Just a couple of comments. The centre light fitting in the dining room did not work which was a shame. The shower in the main bathroom was ok but it was difficult to contain the spray to the bath and the bathroom floor did get wet. Parking was tight but we did manage to get the car onto the drive most nights. This was due to the inconsiderate parking of the local van owners and beyond the property owners control.
Property could do with some updating & redecoration. The en suite doorway entrance going up & down the steps is lethal speaking from experience, being over 6ft tall & suited to someone about 5 ft high. There is insufficient warning of a low doorway on the outside of the door & only a small sign on the inside of the door, also the sponge protection on top of the door frame is painted the same colour as the door frame, it needs painting a different colour to highlight the hazard. The metal warning sign on the inside of the frame is tarnished & almost illegible. Kitchen would benefit from a teapot & breadcake tin etc. Property in a good location for walking into town. Parking on the drive is only for 2 very small cars as the gateway is very narrow. We have been with Sykes in several locations, but the Lake District properties always seem to be of a lower standard.
Alyson
A spacious house a short walk to Windermere. We arrived to the sound of the smoke alarm ringing new batteries required and a pile of post just glad we hadn't waited until 5pm to try and check in as it was clear noone had been in the house. We then moved one of the single beds and the carpet underneath was filthy. So we spent the first afternoon hoovering, shopping for batteries and tea towels we stay in a lot of self catering properties and I've never known not to have tea towels and oven gloves provided. The bathroom floor was in need of a really good clean and the fridge has drainage issues which meant when we arrived there was a lot of staining inside. As others have said, we also struggled to put the car on the drive for 3 days due to the local vans and cars parked on the road immediately opposite. We felt the house needed some TLC which is a shame as it's spacious and in a decent location.
Stephanie
A great property. Loved our stay and we will be back. Its a no brainer if you are thinking of renting this property. Amazing.
Philip
The place was very good the owner had thought of everything
Michael
In general we were happy with our stay at Silverthwaite, the only gripe was the arrival time, we have stayed in many self catering properties over the last 30 years and have never had such a late check in time after 5. 00pm which we felt that in winter when it is dark at around 4.00pm was too late, it made it rather awkward firstly finding the house, then parking in the driveway when there was cars parked either side of the drive, then trying to access the key box and code in the dark.
Nicola
We had a lovely stay at Silverthwaite. The facilities were great and the cottage was very clean and warm when we arrived. Would highly recommend to others.
Michael
Silverthwaite was wonderfully located, less than 5 minutes' walk from the centre of Windermere and a selection of restaurants and pbs that are well worth of a visit. The cottage itself was wonderful, spacious and with all the facilities you could want. Highly recommended.
Christine
The cottage was very nice and everything provided as described. The main comment would be that the driveway was classed as big enough to place two cars, but they would have to be small cars, it is very tight for a bigger car. Also, the way residents park on the road makes it difficult to manoeuvre in and out safely. Someone needs to guide the driver from the road. The cottage is spacious and light and pleasant. Would book again.
Excellent property which was very well equipped and very clean! One negative was a very poor high chair which we needed for our 16 month oldthere was no tray and it was too high to fit at the table so this made things a bit awkward at meal times.
