Oak Bank Reviews

Richard
This is a truly lovely cottage in a great location for walking or visiting Ambleside or Windermere which are both very close and on the same bus route. The bus stop is at the end of the lane. The cottage is beautifully decorated and furnished and thought has been given to everything guests could need. We wont hesitate to book again.
We had a wonderful week at Oak Bank. The cottage was beautiful & perfect for our stay. Everything was as described & it was spotlessly clean. It was very well equipped & lacked nothing. We couldn't have been happier.
Deborah
Thankyou for providing such excellent accommodation! One minor point the shaver socket within the light fitting in the upstairs double bedroom needs checking may not be working.
We had a great stay at Oak Bank. It's a lovely property, really nicely laid out and well furnished and stocked especially the kitchen. It seemed a little odd to have a coffee machine but no coffee pods in the welcome box additionally the long life milk in the welcome pack was a few months out of date so it may be worth checking any other packs you have for giving out. Just one other thing to note about the toilet at the top of the stairs, it seemed to drain very slowly. It's not blocked but perhaps just not draining quickly enough? The beds and sofas were all very comfortable, and the kids and us loved the reclining sofas! We thoroughly enjoyed eating outside on the terrace which is very pretty with a lovely view. Likewise the top garden. Altogether a wonderful stay and we would definitely recommend. Thank you.
Joanne
Lovely stay in a beautiful setting. Loads of space for us and our two grown up children. Very well equipped kitchen with everything needed. Good quality appliances and bathrooms. Lots of hot water too! Everything very clean and tidy. We loved the views out to Windermere from the house. We had excellent weather for February and used the outdoor seating more than we thought we would! We enjoyed reading some of the books in the house and thought it good there were many maps and guides available too. Walks from the doorstep or very close to Ambleside for more. All in all a both energetic and restful much needed break. Thank you! Two tiny improvements.A small frying pan would have been useful. Sofas had seen better days Electric car drivers note quite a lack of charging in the area Booths are currently replacing all chargers Charging unreliable in Ambleside. We ended up asking a couple of local hotels to use theirs.
Spacious property. Excellent setting. We watched deer in the field opposite from the lounge.
Well equipped and very well maintained. A lovely place to call Home for another week. Thank you.
Oak Bank is a beautifully maintained and very comfortable property in a quiet setting with lovely views from the rooms and from the two outside seating areas. The cleanliness was outstanding throughout and the layout of the rooms enabled everyone to have their own space as well as providing an spacious area for us all to relax in together. The kitchen was ery well equipped.
The property was well equipped, cleaned to a very high standard and very comfortable. Would definitely come back and recommend to others.
Corinne
This property is wonderful its clean, spacious and unbelievably wellequipped. Its also in a super location, half way between Windermere and Ambleside. Its an ideal location for families too, just opposite Brockhole you should definitely hire a boat 50hr for five people and enjoy the vast adventure playground free!. It felt like home from home in minutes and we enjoyed playing the board games. We loved listening to the owls and watching the bats when it got dark look out of the twin bedroom skylights at dusk the bats fly in and out of the oak tree on the left. The recycling system is amazing i.e. put it all in the bin and the waste contractor sorts it for recycling. Our only feedback, to make the property even more perfect, would be to pop a short handrail in the downstairs bedroom to help with the steps Im not sure I would have thought of this my rather mature parents slept this room and said it would help!. We would love to come back, Id go so far as to say that this is one of the loveliest holiday cottages weve ever stayed in!
Shirley
We have stayed in many cottages over the years, and this one is up there with the best, if not the best. Location fantastic but still a peaceful and quiet spot. Kitchen well equipped, beds really comfortable and social spaces really spacious with a good layout. Good supply of hangers in the wardrobes and hooks on doors. The only criticism and its a minor is that couple of lamps in the lounge would be lovely and make it even more cosy.
Our holiday at Oak Bank was amazing, the only thing that could be improved is the addition of a couple of lamos for the sittingdining room and a better hoover.
Such a lovely, well maintained and generously stocked cottage. Lovely open spaces to sit outside and lots of room inside to spread out. Big table with plenty room for everyone to sit comfortably. Kitchen was well equipped with everything you could want. Bedrooms were comfortable and big even the twin room was spacious despite the sloping roof. Only one slightly negative comment may be worth putting small handrail next to step in lower bedroom as this room is likely to be used by older members of the family who would appreciate this support, Would highly recommend and would love to come back.
What a stunning property everything about the cottage was fantastic, it was ideally situated so I could leave my car and myself and my partner went walking for the day we also used the local transport and the bus stop was situated at the bottom of the lane, The cleanliness and the amenities within the property are amazing and we couldnt have wished for a better experience I will definitely be returning and recommending to others. Thank you so much for a lovely stay ..
Very comfortable, very well equipped, very warm and cosy. Beds are very comfortable. It's in a good and very quiet location, making it easy to get around either by car or public transport. We would definitely recommend Oakbank.
Lovely holiday cottage, very comfortable, well equipped and easy to relax in. For us it was a great location, with walks available from the front door and a ferry stop at Brockholes across the road along with the Lakeland Visitors Centre. Would love to go back some time as would my children.
Oak Bank is a wonderful home from home spacious, tastefully furnished, well equipped and in a small, gated community with beautifully kept grounds. We loved it.
Carolyn
On the whole a clean and well equipped property and we had a great holiday, just a few things would make it perfect. It is described as a luxury property so I would expect toilet roll and hand soap to be provided. Also just 2 bin liners for the whole week is not enough. The downstairs bedroom needs a dressing table or something underneath the mirrorand the shower screen in the bathroom leakes we used the dirty tea towels left by the previous guests to soak up the water on the floor The shower doors in both upstairs bathrooms do not fit or close properly and the mattress on the double bed upstairs sags on one side. The property could also do with at least one full length mirror.
There are a few things that need maintenance, but otherwise it was very good. The dishwasher needs something to put cutlery in! The small upstairs shower head leaks badly. The cafetire needs repairing or replacing. These were minor inconveniences but need attention. This is otherwise a very pleasant home in a delightful area and was clean and exactly as advertised. We will definitely recommend it and be back for a longer stay.
Pamela
We have enjoyed another lovely week at this comfortable cottage. We have returned to Oak Bank many times over the years and it has always been a pleasure. The facilities, cleanliness, comfort and location are first rate. This year we were blessed with sunshine, which made the walks even better. We were treated to the seaplanes event on our last evening at Brockhole which was great.
Judith
A well equipped, warm & cosy cottage, with beautiful views. Will definitely return.
Rebecca
We had a great time staying at Oakbank. Fantastic cottage in a brilliant location, some lovely walks nearby. The cottage was well kept, cosy, spacious and had really good facilities. Had everything we needed. Would definitely come again. Thankyou.
Charles
Beautiful cottage in a lovely quiet spot but very handy for Windermere, Ambleside and Troutbeck by foot. The cottage was excellently equipped and even had a new kitchen compared to the website photos. Already booked another stay as we enjoyed the cottage so much.
It was a lovely holiday cottage. Spacious and well maintained. Being very picky the glass doors could have done with a clean either a toddler or a dog? as they were smeared about 2ft from the floor not even sure how we noticed this and it is really being very picky. The rest of the cottage was spotlessly clean. The dimmer switches for the main lights were flickering on and off when dimmed ok when on full. The lighting could be improved with some lamps but again this is a small thing. We would definitely go back.
A superb holiday home comfortable and cozy and fantastic value as we chose a discounted week. Have stayed before and will definitely be returning, Thanks to the owner and Heart of the Lakes for providing us with a great winter break.
Pamela
I enjoyed another holiday at Oak Bank this year. The property is well located with easy walking access onto the fells, whilst also being close to the lake for watersports. The property is well equipped and maintained. We have spent several holidays at Oak Bank over the years and look forward to returning again next year.
We have stayed at this property several times. It has always been clean and well presented, until this time when we found food and discarded paper packaging under and on the sofas. This is the first time that cleanliness in the lounge has been poor and was a considerable disappointment. The rest of the property was cleaned to a high standard. We tried to leave the property clean and I think we managed to leave the lounge cleaner than when we arrived!
Malcolm
Good equipment in the kitchen though a new wok would be good as the present one has reached its sell by date.
Pamela
Excellent Property Oak Bank is a lovely property in a quiet location and yet close to amenities. We found it warm, comfortable, spacious and very clean. We enjoyed great walks from the house and watersports were also within easy reach. This was our third visit to Oak Bank and I hope that we will be able to come again. Thanks for a nicely maintained and well equipped property. Ms P Parry
Judith
Cleanliness was not up to standard, dusty bedrooms and hob not clean, dishwasher not emptied.
Pamela
I hesitate to give Sykes a score. I have been completely happy with Heart of the Lakes over the years and not at all happy with Sykes. I see that they now have become one. This disturbs me and I hope that the excellent service I have received from Heart of the Lakes continues.
What a lovely house very comfortable and a good location . The overall decor and furnishings were excellent. Will be back.
