Lakestone Cottage Reviews

Heather
The interior of the property was modern , comfortable, wellequipped & clean. Unfortunately Lakestone Cottage lacked 'kerb appeal' as the porch and outer door, as well as the back door, were in need of renovation and painting. Such a pity when the rest of the property was so nicely decorated & fresh. The location was great with a local shop & large park literally at the top of the road. Upper Windermere was just a 1015 minute walk away with lower Windermere also within walking distance.
Lovely property. Great location close to both Boweness and Windermere. Nice to have a shop and park on the doorstep. Our dog loved the park. The property was great only issues were the porch door would not close. We were not able to access the internet, code on the router was not connecting. We attempted to contact Sykes and got really frustrated with the robot response. It was not an emergency. We got a reply two days into our stay saying they had tried to contact us , despite having no missed calls. It would be nice to speak to a human.
Jennifer
A really comfortable cottage , lots of parking and a great location. Everything you could possibly need . We had a lovely break and didn't want to leave.
Joanne
Wifi code would be helpful External of cottage requires upkeep
Kathryn
Lovely warm cottage. Immaculately clean, plenty of kitchen utensils & no problem parking 2 cars outside on the street. We had a lovely stay & I wouldnt hesitate to book again if I was looking to stay in Windermere
Aileen
Lovely property ideal place for local shops pubs and caf. Walking distance to the lake so saves on parking fees also parking outside no problem, great property.
Günter
Alles vorhanden was man braucht. Was nicht beschrieben war dass eine french Press Kaffeemaschine existiert. Die ist aber nur ein minimaler Mangel . Entfernung zum Ortskern ca. 10 Minuten Fuweg.
We didn't realise at the time of booking that the cottage was on a housing estate& at the top of a steep babk, OK for walking down to centre, but not walking back as we're inour 70's. The interior was really clean & comfortable but the exterior was in need of repair, wooden door frame rotting door paint peeing off & scratched, windows dirty which on first appearance was a bit off putting, but couldn't fault inside
The property was clean and tidy, Walking distance to Lake and Windermere town. Property not far from a little gem of a pub Brookside Inn. They do lovely meals there. The Crafty Baa pub in town is well worth a visit. Inn all we had a lovely stay.
We loved our stay at Lakestone Cottage. It was well equipped, very clean and in a great location. Well definitely be booking again in the future.
Lovely house. Great location in Windermere. All very clean. Kitchen and bathroom looked nearly new! Had a lovely stay
House was well decorated and clean and in a good location as a five minute walk into Windermere centre and fifteen minutes to Bowness. A good house.
Hannah
The house and location was great. Maybe the only complaint would be that the beds were on the small size but everything else was great.
The property is in a fabulous location, walkable distance from the town. It was immaculate and had everything we needed. It would have been nice to have some tea and coffee as a welcome hamper perhaps but thankfully we did bring our own. The matress was comfy but the bed itself didnt feel very stable and will need updating at some point. But overall a really lovely stay!

We had a wonderful 4night stay in this charming cottage. It was the perfect base for exploring the beautiful Lake District, offering a warm and comfortable place to return to after chilly April days. The cottage was as described, and our young family enjoyed our time there. While the sofa could have been a bit more comfortable, that's a minor detail in an otherwise fantastic stay. We would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a Lake District getaway!

Fabulous Cottage , kitchen had everything we needed . Smart Tv was excellent too . Beautiful bathroom amazing shower . The whole house was decorated really well . Having the small enclosed garden at the back was a bonus with the dog . Only a 29 minute walk to Bowness, 10 minute walk into Windermere. The only negatives were the bed mattress could be better and the sofas downstairs were not the comfiest. However I will definitely be using Lakestone again .
Melissa
Had a lovely time staying in the cottage for a long weekend! The kitchen was very well equipped. If youre planning on coming here, then I recommend bringing extra toilet roll as mentioned in other reviews the plug in the bath is also still broken so it drains constantly when youre in it. Also bear in mind that logs are not provided for the fire which we didnt mind going to get but wouldve been nice to know ahead of time so we were better prepared. The cottage is beautiful and we hope to return in the future.
Michaela
Thank you for a lovely stay. The cottage was exceptionally clean and has everything you need for a self catering stay. Location was great. Will definitely use again
Debora
Stayed at Lakestone in November 2022. Like the decorating that's been done downstairs and to the room on the 2nd floor, big improvement. First impressions count so maybe tidy the appearance of the front garden and a new porch door. Comfortable, clean cottage.
Broken mirror in the bathroom is dangerous. Shower has a weird window that juts out, very easy to bang you elbows on it when showering. Bath plughole didn't work, so no relaxing bath! Summer duvets in 4C in January. 4 forks and 4 mugs in the whole house, 2 random wine glasses, but 10 prosecco glasses? Only 3 chairs for the dinner table in a 4 person listing house Had a foldy chair under the stairs but not very nice for paying customers, is it? No kitchen roll provided at all, and only 1 toilet roll for 4 people for a week. No frosting on bathroom window so you have to put the blinds down every single time you go to the toilet! Form over function as the house looks great on arrival, but the moment you scratch the surface it becomes obvious it's missing even the most basic things. Would not go back, and we are always coming to Windermere for work, but there are better places for the price.
Always nervous to book cottages as standard can so vary but this cottage was absolutely perfect for us. 4 of us and a dog had plenty of space and good facilities. Reading previous reviews I took things such as loo roll, bin bags, sponge etc but seemed the company had listened to feedback and all were available. One improvement could be more than one set of cutleryglasses and a welcome pack of milk and tea would have been appreciated. Thank you
Could have just done with a fact sheetwelcome note with some instructions on facilites, procedure for check out etc
Ashley
Fantastic location, property as described. Very clean when we arrived which was appreciated, bedding and towels good quality. Very minor improvements the front porch, door, guttering all need some TLC they definitely dont match the quality of the interior of the property. Equally, some little extras eg. washing up brush, more toilet rolls would have been appreciated! Brilliant stay overall and wouldnt put us off booking again!
Jonathan
Lovely cottage. Very clean and really happy with stay. We chose the place as dog friendly and pleased you couldnt tell dogs stayed here before. Easy to find and parking was great. Only suggestions would be that a welcome pack would have been nice about the place rather than signs on wall. Maybe some milk in fridge or few goodies? Other places have this and is a nice touch. The other reviews about the appearance outside property are correct as look unloved but we stayed in October so no need to sit out.
The settees in the front room both need a deep clean , they are both quite heavily stained . One of the steps down from the house to the back yard was complymissing and had been put to the side which is quite hazardous . The house itself inside other than the sofas is really nice , well decorated and very clean .
On approach the property looks like it needs maintenance. Peeling paint back and front. Rotting guttering, broken step on the rear. The back yard was not appealing and the garden furniture needed cleaning. The inside was spotless modern and comfortable. The only things missing were a pair of scissors in the kitchen, a mirror and hairdryer in the upstairs bedroom. Unfortunately we had to call Sykes because the shower wasnt draining properly. This was dealt with immediately to our satisfaction straight away.
We had a great stay with our Golden Retriever at Lakestone Cottage it was ideal for access to both Windermere & Bowness with loads of options for walks. The cottage itself was lovely & spotless when we arrived would highly recommend & we hope to be back soon
Elizabeth
We really enjoyed our stay, the house suited our needs well! We loved that we could control the heating and could make it perfect for us. The house was spotlessly clean. We loved the location and it suited us well. The only downside for us was the sofas & beds werent as comfortable as wed hoped, although this wouldnt stop us from booking again. Great park up the road for taking the dog to the toilet as he wasnt a huge fan of the garden lots of gravel. Would certainly recommend the cottage to others and reconsider booking for the future thank you.
Amazing location, extremely clean, warm and comfortable cottage. Everything you need for a holiday. Lovely bathroom and spacious bedrooms Short 10 mins walk into Windermere and 20 min walk to Bowness steep hill. We had snow, rain and sunshine on our break so nice to come back to the cottage at the end of the day and be warm and comfortable. Thank you
Joanne
Well maintained property in a good location nearby to Windermere centre 510 mins walk and Bowness 20 mins with lots of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. Small shop at end of street for any essentials. Fabulously clean and tidy. Comfy beds. Well stocked kitchen, had everything we needed for our stay and a decent sized table and chairs for 4 to eat at. Free reign to adjust heating as necessary which was great and house warmed up very quickly. 2 lovely double bedrooms and a large bathroom with separate shower and bath. Our girls used the small TV room upstairs too. Parking was fine, right outside property for unloading etc. Small yard at rear with table and chairs for the warmer months. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.
Kayleigh
Beautiful cottage and very pleasant stay. Easy booking and hassle free stay.
Amanda
It's a beautiful cottage throughout, with everything required for a comfortable stay. It was very clean throughout. We stayed during the extreme heat and due to having a dog we stayed indoors during the hottest time of the day and found the property cooling. There were plenty of games,DVD's and books to keep us occupied. I thought I read prior to going that tea towels weren't provided but when we arrived, there were two provided together with a cleaning pack containing a dish wash cloth, scourer, black bin liner, and dishwasher tablets. I took my own dishwashing liquid and paper kitchen towels but that's something I always do. The kitchen is also suitably stocked with every type of potpan you require to prepare your own food unless, of course, you prefer to take out. There's a large 6040 fridge freezer which is more than adequate for a week for 4 persons. There was even a bowl for the dog. There is a small cloakroom off the kitchen that housed the washing machine, hoover, iron, ironing board, mop, washing basket, pegs, high chair, and outside seating cushions. The small backyard is covered in shingle and had a garden table and four chairs. The parasol was found in the outhouse which is secured and opened with the same code as the keysafe at the front of the property. The bathroom was huge and gorgeous with a very deep bath and a separate walkin shower with plenty of towels provided. There were two toilet rolls provided, so if you require any more you'd have to either bring them or purchase them. There was also a small amount of liquid soap in the bathroom however I'm not sure whether this is provided or whether it had been left by a previous guest. My advice would be to bring your own, just in case. Both bedrooms were a good size and each had double beds, a wardrobe and a chest of drawers. There were plenty of coat hangers in each wardrobe which was refreshing as usually, I find they are lacking in holiday properties. A hairdryer and diffuser were found in the chest of drawers on the first floor. I even noted a travel cot under the bed. The bedrooms are on separate floors and on the top floor is a small officetype room housing a desk, chair, futon and wallmounted tv. My teenage daughter loved it and spent time reading there. The property is situated about a 1015 min walk from the centre of Windermere and a 25 min walk from Bowness. There is an incline to get to the property from Windermere but it isn't too steep and as someone with a heart issue I didn't find it difficult. However, depending on the route you take, the incline from Bowness is much more difficult and anyone infirm may find it a challenge. There is a corner shop at the end of the road for any essentials you may need. I have three small criticisms and that would be in regard to 1. The double bed on the first floor. It's quite soft and whenever my husband turned in the bed the movement was so great it woke me up. 2. A tall mirror would be beneficial on the 2nd floor there was only a small cosmetic mirror provided. 3. The first aid kit needs to be replenished. One of us developed a blister and need a plaster but there were none in the kit. It's a super property and a great base from which to explore the area and I would definitely return and highly recommend it.
Rosamond
Lovely cottage inside everything you could possibly need , The outside is not dog or child friendly re pebbles in the backyard. Neighbourhood very quiet area and close to all amenities. Windows could do with a clean outside too. I thought you had until 10 am on your departure day, it was just after 9.30 when we departed as soon as we got in the car a woman was out of her car and down the steps. As you have to leave the house as you find it, it will only take an hour at the most to tidy round and remake the bed so why you cant actually get into the cottage until 4 PM Ive no idea. Obviously crockery pots pans and glasses arent checked we found a dirty pan and 2 drinking glasses one with a crack and another with a bad chip . Oh and one last point lovely shower but rather slippery.
