Hugill Cottage Reviews

William
A real gem of a cottage in a lovely villiage close to Windermere. The decor, finish and finish level of the cottage was brilliant. I suppose the only downside is parking albeit we found some relatively close by, but l wouldnt let that put you off. The cottage is very close a pub which serves excellent meals and plenty of seating upstairs when the lower floor is full of walkers and families.
Elizabeth
Another lovely week at Hugill Cottage. Already booked for next year. Love staying here always sad to leave. Perfect cottage in a perfect location
Michael
Excellent accommodation in a great position to access the Lakes. Spacious property and immaculate inside. Second visit and will be returning again. Mike
Carrie
The house was lovely. Very clean and cosy. We loved having the wood burner. The double bedroom was small but we knew this when we booked. The other bedrooms were spacious and the beds were very comfortable. Kitchen was very well equipped. We also loved the location with all the facilities of Mill Yard and easy access to the southern lakes. We would definitely book Hugill cotthae again.
Angela
This cottage is beautiful and well decorated. It's spotlessly clean and the Hosts have thought of all the little things that you may need when away which helps. Would definitely come back.
The cottage was lovely but there was no cleaning cloth or sponge in the kitchen and no tea towels. The rubbish collection info was wrong and no info re recycling. The twinking second bedroom has no hanging space. Instead of the dog wardrobe on the landing it would be better used for hanging space for this bedroom and the dog equipment stored under the stairs. With a bit of extra info in the pack and the above equipment, which are minor things, our stay would have been perfect. Thanks We had no problems parking.
We loved the cottage, it was really spacious, comfortable and beautifully decorated. Staveley was a brilliant base for exploring and we enjoyed walking straight from the cottage. Parking wasn't a problem and we would love to stay there again.
Victoria
Super cottage in the most perfect Lake District location for us a family with kids and a dog.
Annette
A really comfortable well equipped cottage, perfect for our 5 adults and a baby. Beds really comfy, bathrooms lovely & clean with lots of hot water. Kitchen had a good range of pots and pans. Cottage was really warm with easy controls to turn up or down or off. A great open plan downstairs perfect for a family or friends gathering.
Lovely cottage in the middle of Staveley, well decorated, equipped and comfortable. Just what we needed for our family get together. Staveley is a village with a heart, lots of facilities, local shops, pharmacy, chip shop and pizza takeaway, pub, cafes, play park, church and lots of places to walk right from the front door.
Robert
Lovely cottage, well furnished and comfortable sofas and beds. Good location for travelling into the Lake District. Very close to bakery, excellent croissants, bread and hot food. Spar, easy walking distant. Pizza and excellent fish and chips, again easy walking distance. Plus of course, pub in the village about 5 mins walk.
4 adults and 2 13yrs had an absolutely fabulous week in the cottage. Such a perfect base for the Lakes. The cottage is comfortable and is a real home from home. The village has everything you need. It's so nice being able to jump on the 555 bus straight into Windermere, a very short trip away, or further into Ambleside. It's the 2nd time we've stayed and it won't be the last.
The cottage is very comfortable and cosy, very spacious and more than well equipped kitchen. The open plan downstairs is ideal for all the family and friends to stay together. Very surprised how comfortable the beds are. The best shower and the water pressure is incredible.
Rebecca
We had such a great time in this adorable little cottage, so close to Lake windermere and Ambleside. Lovely little pubs in Staveley itself and 5 minutes walking distance. Little spar shop for essentials and a pharmacy opposite side of the road. Inside the cottage was everything you need for an enjoyable and comfortable stay, we will definitely be coming back.
Love this house, our second stay here. Perfect location & lots of lovely amenities nearby whilst also being convenient for Kendal & the Lakes. The house was clean & well appointed & the main bed is the comfiest ever! Hope to stay again next year.

Our second visit to hugjill cottage, ideal for family of six and a furry friend ! Great open space in kitchen and dining room .Would recommend close to lakes and lovely walks and a good chippy !
We had a wonderful last minute stay and loved every minute. Downstairs is spacious and open plan, the fire is lovely and there's plenty of room upstairs. We came with our 18 month old and did need a travel cot but there was a highchair for us to use. There's lots on the doorstep including Hawkshead brewery, shop and pub and it's really not far from Windermere. We'll be back!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Hugill Cottage. It was beautiful and comfortable, as well as being very well kitted out practically. All instructions were clear and communication with Sykes and the owner excellent. We wouldnt hesitate to stay again. Thank you!
Alison
Fantastic cottage! We had such a lovely weekend and the cottage was perfect. Really cosy with the log burner on in the lounge, nice big kitchen and fabulous comfortable beds! Ideal location with lots to do near by. Loved the bottle of wine that was left for us too. Really lovely touch. Thank you. Would definitely recommend to others and hopefully return again soon!
Caroline
The house was lovely perfect for us as a family, room's were large and comfortable, beds very comfy. Kitchen excellently stocked, bright and sunny we loved the enclosed garden area. Nice and spacious and very central to everything in Staveley. Only a Couple of small areas, the entrance and living area always smelled very doggy we aren't pet owners maybe a couple of plug ins? I bought a spray but didn't hide the smell. And bathrooms could use some more cleaning around the taps, very black and mouldy. Other than that the house was lovely, some very nice accessories in the paintings and local ornaments etc. I'd recommend the house for sure.
Andrew
Great cottage, we will hopefully get back at some stage.
We absolutely loved Hugill Cottage. Beautifully and comfortably furnished perfect location to use as a base for travelling around the Lake District. The village of Staveley also offered good services and facilities. It's just a pity we only had 1 week there! We would definitely book Hugill Cottage again. Many thanks x
Superb cottage in an excellent location provided the R&R that was much needed! Easy booking process even though we were very last minute. Very comfortable beds and well equipped kitchen space. We all dog included felt very relaxed and refreshed following our 4 day visit. Thank you very much.
Alveen
Lovely cottage , everything we needed for our stay. Lots of room for family of 6 and a dog . Good food at the pub ,chippy and local spar was handy . Parking wasn't a problem .we will definitely return .
We had a wonderful short break in Staveley. The house was warm and welcoming. The decor fresh and modern, we enjoyed a bar meal at the local pub, which had the bonus of a roaring fire. We would certainly recommend this property. I was expecting logs to be supplied as it states fuel provided on your website. The Spar shop was very convenient.
Excellent cottage beautifully decorated and very cozy with lovely log fire. Our second time to stay for 2 weeks and it wont be our last. Great location with local pubs, cafes and great works. Great host with excellent communication
So good we have booked again! ! Cant fault it. Comfortable and welcoming and well maintained. Looking forward to our 3rd visit.
Sophie
A perfect stay in a perfect cottage!
A beautiful, relaxing spacious cottage in a great location.
Ekaterina
A lovely cottage in a very convenient location. We really enjoyed our stay !
Hugill Cottage is a lovely holiday cottage. It's well appointed, clean and spacious. The huge bed in the back bedroom was lovely and comfortable. I really appreciated having blinds and heavy curtains to block out the early morning light. The only down side is, as the property is situated on the main street, vehicle noise is an issue in the early morning and there wasn't a teapot! We bought one in a charity shop. The location is ideal for taking the train to Kendal or Windermere. The village has good facilities but Booths in both of these towns is wonderful! There are fantastic walks in all directions or just a short drive away. Very enjoyable stay.
Forgive me for taking so long to share my thoughts on my wonderful holiday home in the delightful Lake District village of Staveley. Have been staying in the Lakes for 20 years, and this was 'comfortably' the most impressive place in which I've stayed. From the front door and entrance, to the rear garden and patio, it had been refurbished and equipped to standards which absolutely met my own ... and that's never previously happened in a holiday let. Ideal location within the village, with the coffee shop which specialises in Peruvian blends and the authentic gelato parlour, the 'chippie', butcher, Hawkshead beerhall and the Eagle & Child all nearby. Parking outside, the bus stop at the end of the road and, for those who know Staveley's layout, the train station just a short stroll away. Perfectly positioned for access via the A591 to Windermere, and those who prefer grass to tarmac will also be delighted by its positioning. In short, it should be seen as a home from home, and certainly not 'just' as a holiday let. When I next return to the Southern Lakes, it will be Hugill Cottage for me. Cheers. Ian Halstead
Hugill Cottage is everything need for a great relaxing break away. The village of Staveley is lovely with perfect amenities including coffee shops, village stores, Icecream parlour and the famous Hawkshead brewery. Bus routes straight into Windermere and Bowness which was just perfect. Would definitely book again.
Jessica
The property was so stylish and cosy! Plenty of room for the family and a nice place to relax after adventuring! We will definitely be booking this cottage again
Hugill Cottage is a delightful place to stay, furnished and decorated to a high standard throughout. It is well equipped, and a real home from home. The owner must have put a lot of thought in to the fabulous art work and photography on the walls which we all loved. This is an excellent cottage in a lovely village. Thanks for a great stay!
Trevor
Really lovely cottage in a lovely village with some great facilities near by. Cottage was fantastically open and bright but also warm and relaxing. Cant wait to return.
Amazing cottage in the middle of an amazing village. My only problem was that the heating was too high, at some points 26c!
I want to be able to recommend this property, because it ticks most of the boxes right in the middle of Staveley village though if you don't like proximity to traffic, you might find it a bit noisy a very nice layout, with large kitchendining area and decently equipped a good outside space, if a bit overlooked and good facilities smart TV, two woodburners etc although more booksgames and perhaps a welcome pack would have given a more homely feel. Two of the bedrooms are goodthe master is very nicewhile the third struggles to accommodate the double bed. However, our visit was marred at the outset by what sounded like construction work being undertaken next door on the Fri evening and all day Saturday from 8am, accompanied by the doofdoof of dance music. When I contacted Sykes Cottages about the issue on Sat morning, I found them very sympathetic, but it took a followup call later in the afternoon to get things resolved. I just have doubts about the soundproofing in the property, which for me is a bit of a dealbreaker. If that sort of thing doesn't bother you, Hugill Cottage is a good choice in the village. Also, I should say that the property had not been cleaned brilliantly well it was still being readied when we turned up at 4.10pm, and we were left only half a toilet roll, which I found a bit surprising.
Such a lovely place where we could have stayed much longer. Facilities and location excellent, great to return to after a day out walking. Wouldnt hesitate in returning again.
Thank you for a really great stay. Really valued the porch for when we came back muddy. A broom would be a useful addition so guests can keep it a bit cleaner during their stay but this is very minor. We had a lovely time here and the thoughtful touches for dogs was really appreciated!
